ear plugs for older sibling

Hi there, I wondered if anyone has any experience of using ear plugs for an older sibling? My 16 month old son is an awful sleeper - screams for prolonged periods (despite attempts to settle him) 2 or 3 times a night and then wakes around 5.30am. It is negatively affecting everyone in the house but I am most concerned about my 4 year old daughter - she is starting a new school and with a new childminder and really needs a good nights sleep.
I have wondered about getting her to sleep in ear plugs - does anyone know if this is safe for a child of this age? any experiences? thank you

I've thought about this so would be interesting to know.

Tbh I think it would help more if I put the earplugs in the baby rather than dd1! If the baby so much as wimpers in her sleep dd1 starts 'helpfully' singing lullabys Hmm of course this just wakes the baby up even more!

ah bless her - better than our neighbours who 'helpfully' banged on the wall at 3am when baby was crying last week - not entirely sure how they thought that was going to encourage him to be quiet!
