just wondering if anyone has used elizabeth Pantleys book on teaching babies to sleep on their own? theres so many books out there just dont know what to try. all i do know is that we tried CC and it was awful. there must be a nicer method?

Hi lindster can't help you I'm afraid as I haven't come accross this method, what is it?

We tried CC but DS just gets so upset and makes himself sick that he won't settle.

Would be interested to hear of other methods.

its something to do with finding alternative comforts for the baby. I typed her name into google and you can see extracts from her book but she doesnt give much away.Im also going to find out more about the pupd method by the baby whisperer. cant go through that cc again, maybe we are just weak parents!

Hi

I have read the Elizabeth Pantley book and it was really good. I didn't end up using most of her methods though as she says things like

'if at any time this doesn't work or you are unhappy go back to which ever soothing method works best for you so the baby doesn't cry'.

This is wonderful in theory but my ds cried whatever I did so I felt a bit inadequate that I wasn't able to soothe him. She kind of makes the assumption that if your baby is waking up you have a way of getting them to sleep without them crying much (ie breastfeeding, rocking bottle, car drive etc.)

Unfortunatlely this was not the case with me as he cried a lot whatever I did when he woke up. Not every wake up but for a lot of them feeding did not work.

Anyway apart from that if your baby is waking a lot but needs your help to go back to sleep and they do this reasonably easily but you want them to go back to sleep without your help and with no (or almost no crying) she is very good. It will take quite a while though.

lindster, I have a copy I can send you if you want. CAT me your details.
I wish we had had it with ds, on whom I think it would have worked quite well...but I bought it later, for dd, before realising that she wanted to be left to grumble for five mins before going off to sleep on her own
I think it is well worth a try, but won't work with some babies. If you feel innately uncomfortable with cc (as we did with ds) then Pantley may suit you better.
