taking dd into bed with me when poorly

dd 2yrs is pretty poorly at the moment, esp. at night with a cough/sore throat. dd1 had it last week and subsequently I've not had much sleep for the past week.
as I;m so tired when dd2 wakes up in the night I have been taking her into bed with me as she was waking every 30 mins or so and I was so tired I just wanted to get some sleep.
Am I making a rod for my own back? 2 nights in a row so far.... I've tried medised but she still wakes up crying/coughing all the time.
we are both desperate for sleep at the moment, is this okay and will she go back to sleeping on her own when she's better?

Yes - as long as you are then prepared for a probable night or two of battles.

I never let DD1 sleep with me - not because of any reason except she is such a PAIN to sleep with. Really fidgety . I let her sleep with me once recently (she's 3.4) when DH was away and it was actually lovely, cause we both had space! Except the next night she just pitched up at 2am, climbing into bed with me! I had to take her back to bed five times. She didn't do it again. At 2 - you might find she resists a little more, erm, strenuously. But as long as you are consistent she'll get the message.

Ive never either with the 1 exception whenn DD had chicken pox the day we came back from hols. She was waking every 20 mins to scratch so we needed to be close at hand with the calamine lotion.

Oh, I'm afraid I do give in for illness or a quick cuddle if very scared after a bad dream.

They are usually fine about going back once all is well again, I've always made it clear that's the deal so it's only an occasional thing.

One thing I do, if one is ill, is to make up little bed/nest next to my side of the bed. That way I'm right there if they're ill, but at least we all have enough room still to sleep. This is seen as special and only for when ill. It also stops the other two being too disturbed in the night.
