Hi all,
We have a monitor with breathing monitoring aswell particularly as DS sleeps on front (19 weeks) but it keeps my husband up at night. I like to hear the reassuring beep of his breathing movements but would like to know when do people stop using monitors in general? We have finally got him sleeping through the night since he rolled over onto his tummy!!. Also when do they grow out of their funny phase with strangers - if he doesn't see his grandparents more than once a week he is funny with them!

Hi don't know which monitor you have but we had the Maws (now Tommee Tippee) breathing sensor monitor. You could switch the sound down to zero but still see the lights flashing. Is ds still in your room?

We still use the monitor on ds2 before we go to bed with ds2 who is now 3 but probably don't need it just habit (dont use the sensor part of course). Think we stopped using the monitor with ds1 at around 2 because ds2 needed it.

Don't remember the funny phase - sorry

depends on you. I used ds till he was 12mths and stopped because he went into a bed even though I could hear most sounds form his room like you i liked the breathing beep. We could turn the beep off on ours so it just flashed though.

The funny phase comes and goes for the next couple of years...lol Ds is just 2 and still goes a bit odd if he hasnt seen someone for a couple of weeks.

Thanks guys,
Stripey - no he is in his cot in his own room since 12 weeks and we have the Tommee Tipee Reassurance 8 monitor too. I have started to turn it down so hubbie sleeps too and is going well.
Nemo666 - Thanks for advice on funny phase.
We now have a new issue with waking as he wakes when his arm falls down the side of the cot so we are thinking of cot bumpers but are a little worried due to risk of cot death as not recommended under 12 mths. Any thoughts?

I have a cot bumper on my 9 month old's cot. It is tied firmly on and the bottom fits down the side of the mattress. Even though she plays with it, it's tied so snuggly around the one end of the cot, can't imagine what damage she could do with it. Definitely much more comfy and stops arms and legs slipping through the bars.

Harryslave, I think you might be confusing the advice for cot bumpers with the advice for duvets, pillows, quilts, etc. Cot bumpers are suitable from BIRTH and should be removed when your lo starts to get more mobile as they can then use them to climb out.

Duvets, pillows, etc are suitable from 12 MONTHS due to risks of overheating.
