Controlled complaining......

Anyone else encountered this? Am trying to discourage ds (5 months) from being fed to sleep several times a night. He doesn't cry when he doesn't get his little gums on a nipple but he sort of complains it's not even grizzling - if he could speak he's be saying 'Mum, mum why have you taken away my normal way of getting to sleep...I really liked that...mum mum etc'. Last night, the first night, he complained about it for more than an hour. ( I did reassure him - put just no food provided)
If you've come across it does it work like ccing - do they do it less on successive nights?

Welshmum, my DS is just seven months and it is only recently he's started sleeping through (well almost, 7pm-5.30/6am feed then back to sleep until 7.30)

I started to reduce his feeds in the night from about 5 months as I had quite a few nights over a few weeks where he slept through, so I knew he could do it. He is bottle fed so I reduced the ounces but if yours is BF, you can do it by the time you feed him. Eventually, he was only getting a few ounces and going back to sleep no problem so I stopped feeding him and wrapped him in a blanket and cuddled him back to sleep instead. Eventually, he stopped waking and now sleeps through. You need to really stick with it though as he'd be really good for a week and would then wake 2/3 times in the night and we'd start again.

This only works if your DS knows how to settle himself though. Are you putting him down for naps awake and does he settle himself at bedtime.

HTH in some way.
