Moving from moses basket to cot (long one sorry)

My nearly three month old is quickly getting too big for his moses basket and despite my inner turmoil i moved him into his own room (ours won't fit his cot in) my thinking was if i put the basket into his cot before he grew out of it he would get used to the room. And it seemed to work, he did 3 out of 4 nights without waking for a feed. He was awake at 5 but just chattered and went back to sleep until 7 (as you can imagine i was extremely pleased and foolishly thought it might be the beginning of something new). So i moved him into his cot, removing the basket. It didn't work quite as successfully as i'd hoped, he woke up at half 3 the first night and i ended up doing the night feed (which led him to not be as interested as usual in his 7am feed). The the following night i tried again but didn't want to do a feed so gave him a bit of water. This didn't work so i ended up giving him his dummy (something i never wanted to do) it settled him until 5 when he woke up again, the only thing that settled him was the dummy again.

I realised the cot wasn't working and last night put him back in his basket, in the cot and went from 11 to 7. He was breech and so, luckily, lies with his legs like a little frog which actually means he's got another couple of inches left but i obviously don't want to be cramming him into his basket indefinitely.

I've thought about putting something with my scent on in with him but the problem, i think, is the space difference from basket to cot. I've read that putting pillows down the sides might help but there's no room and i don't want him to suffocate.

Can anyone give me any advice so my little man doesn't sleep forever in a basket. Thanks C :O

Try rolled up cot blankets / towels etc between him and the cot sides to reduce the space instead of pillows.

Try putting him in the moses basket inside the cot for a few nights - then try cot only again. I haven't done it myself, but know other people for whom it has worked.

I think for time being its doing no harm with him being in his basket, maybe when he has grown a little bit i.e feet touching the bottom of the basket he will be glad of the space in the cot. When you do transfer him use the bedding i.e covers that you used in his basket so that its fimiliar to him and place his feet at the bottom of the cot. It will takes him a few nights to adjust!

I put ds in his own room a couple of weeks before he grew out of his basket to get him used to it. Then had to put him in his cot after a few weeks for this exact reason.

He was going until about 6am, but when we moved him into his cot he woke up earlier. The first night, it was 3.30am, then 4.30am the next day, and then back to 6am. I just fed him, when he woke and adjusted his feeding times in the day to compensate it. After 2-3 nights, your ds should be used to it. Mine was. Hope it works for you
