My job, at times, can propel me into strange circumstances. I have just learnt that it is very likely i will be "spending the night" in the London home of a v famous celeb couple... I am not cool, have nothing to wear, and easily impressed... WTF do I do now?

deaconblue Wed 26-Oct-11 16:59:35

Omg how exciting. So they are über cool are they? Is it a party or dinner? We need to know time of day etc to advise

25kilopumpkin Wed 26-Oct-11 19:19:24

OOOH ta for posting, no one else seems to want to comment and I am very worried! They are BIG hollywood celebs (loads of kids so OK there) honestly don't even know what else to say! They have a big house apparently and a whole bunch of us will be staying there overnight and my colleague says they put a load of food on and hang out a bit for dinner (like a really nice buffet thing last time he says) plus generally "potter" around and are there at breakfast!

Problem is I have a 14 wk old ds and two others under five and I look a sight. We are broke and I have no cool clothes, I'll need to at least dye my hair and get a manicure and a decent watch or I will be simply ashamed! And what about my luggage which is manky etc etc. I mean I'm sure they aren't snobs, and we have some money coming in soon (from exactly this type of job) but between now I then I have a v limited budget.

I was thinking, if I bought some nice jeans, I have some crisp white/black shirts I could maybe get away with just a new jacket and some new shoes? Then it might not look 'poor' so much as 'signature"? What do you think?

Do you have friends that you could borrow bags/jewellery/trendy clothes from, in exchange for gossip?

Try posting in style and beauty. The ladies there will be able to help, I'm sure.

V curious about who the sleb couple is! Brangelina?

chickydoo Wed 26-Oct-11 20:03:48

Go vintage.
Fab pair of jeans or black trousers, have a rummage around your local charity shop then if anyone says anything you can say "Darling, this old thing...vintage....was my mothers....Grandmothers" etc etc Vintage still very "in"

MrsKwooooHaHaHaAzii Wed 26-Oct-11 20:04:02

How exciting! Just don't wear a watch - lots of people don't so wouldn't worry there. Do you live anywhere near an outlet centre, or can you pop to posh area charity shops? You can pick up some fab stuff in them - and it won't be the usual high street stuff.

Good idea to beg, borrow and steal from friends' wardrobes. Bet they'd love to help smile

As for hair and manicure, do you have a local college that does beauty courses? You can get loads done for sod all money.

I bet you don't look as bad as you think either. S&B ladies will definitely be able to help with great advice too.

bibbitybobbitybloodyaxe Wed 26-Oct-11 20:08:18

Need to get a decent watch? What??

You can make your own nails look perfectly respectable with an emery board and some vaseline and 10 minutes.

What a peculiar job you have op.

frutilla Wed 26-Oct-11 20:15:35

I would focus mainly on grooming. You don't need to spend much, manicure, pedicure, tooth whitening and waxing you could do yourself. Maybe go to a salon for eyebrow threading and hair. I think simple classic like you say, will work. Some shops like Warehouse and Topshop won't blow the budget and are fashionable with slebs and royalty...
Feeling v curious as to what kind of work you do, any clues (pretty please!!)

frutilla Wed 26-Oct-11 20:18:16

Forgot to suggest eyelash dyeing unless they're already very dark....

25kilopumpkin Wed 26-Oct-11 20:34:01

Ta ta ta gringringrin v helpful! Will repose on S&B. All great suggestions etc wink can't gossip tho! Need watch for work so can't avoid this and can spend a little bit just not designer. Friends a good idea will do that! Need swishy hair too and time to do treatments on self but so right ta. Can't say about job sorry. X

LadyClariceCannockMonty Wed 26-Oct-11 21:27:24

I think good jeans and a crisp white shirt would be perfect. Agree that you should concentrate on grooming; get a blowdry? Get your make-up done at a beauty counter?

lborolass Wed 26-Oct-11 21:32:40

I wouldn't worry about a decent watch, you can pick up really funky looking bright plastic ones for about £5 on a market stall which would look good with jeans and a shirt. It sounds like you need it to tell the time not to impress the hosts who, tbh, I don't suppose will be taking any notice of it.

Have a good time - do you get to take your children with you ?

cyb Wed 26-Oct-11 21:35:44

Is it a swingers party?

25kilopumpkin Wed 26-Oct-11 22:30:05

Ha ha not a swingers! I wish [swoon] you're right re: watch etc they won't care but I will. Nope, kids don't come, anyway I go pale at the thought! Should be right now I think, will do

Blow dry and de-grey
Eyebrows
Not sure re: lashes?
Was going to get teeth strips anyways as bf said work fab
Gradual tan moisturizer for subtle colour
White/black shirts
Jeans (a concern tbh what shade/colour)
Blazer ( as suggested on parallel S&B thread
New coloured converse? Have to have flat sensible shoes for work
Self manicure/pedi

Feel better ta, sorry to not give other details wish I could gossip but will post anything I can after job and you'll prob guess slebs...

lborolass Wed 26-Oct-11 22:34:02

Sounds good - what are teeth strips? I'm sure a gentle tan will make you feel better - good idea.

CaptainMartinCrieff Wed 26-Oct-11 22:35:44

Intrigued... What can you do that requires a watch? A watch? If you're timing a race you'd need a watch, if you were deep sea diving you'd need a watch... But what can you be doing overnight with Brad and Ang (guessing) overnight that would require a watch?

Do not join their cult would be my advice wink

deaconblue Thu 27-Oct-11 07:41:59

Are your flat shoes essential as part of an unwanted swinging escape plan?

25kilopumpkin Thu 27-Oct-11 14:27:07

gringringrinHA HA ha! I'm fairly sure if this was the plan he'd change his mind if he saw me! Mores the pity!

25kilopumpkin Thu 27-Oct-11 18:43:56

UPDATE UPDATE...We are getting a tick list prior to the job of dietary requirements (fair enough) but also [scream] dietary preferences... OMG what to put? choc? Nice ham? exciting but v weird I'll be glad when its over a bit. I can't drink at all when doing my job but now wine

effedorf Thu 27-Oct-11 18:49:31

I'm not sure many of us are at all all that interested tbh pumpkin.

ThePathanKhansWitch Thu 27-Oct-11 18:55:17

Wash your hair so its shiny, dark jeans, white shirt, black leather jacket.
Touch of lip gloss, pinch your cheeks, brush your teeth, bring your smile and your good to go.

Have a great time and do come back to tell us all about it! grin.

ThePathanKhansWitch Thu 27-Oct-11 18:57:05

grin@ cyb! Really.

deaconblue Thu 27-Oct-11 19:40:49

Please please give us a hint as to your job, you don't have to tell us who the slebs are
