this is not designed to be a 'i have the swankiest holidays' thread, but a nostalgic one.
my top 3 ski holidays were:

  1. 2 months in whistler (no contest! 2months anywhere would do)
  2. 5 days in verbier without children (but after we had had them so we appreciated the break!)
    3)a week in bormio italy.

    anyone else?
i must admit though, without the kids we talked about them constantly!

  1. New year in Zell Am See - mine and dd's first skiing holiday. Dd was considerably better than me! Visions of her zooming down the slopes like a starfish - arms and legs akimbo. Plus Zell was magical, a really lovely town. NOT such fond memories of the cable car queues.

  1. Banff at Easter, especially Sunshine. Beautiful sunny days, long sweeping ski runs on wide open blues and chats with lovely fruendly Canadians on the ski lifts.

  1. A day skiing at Engelberg when on a weekend break in Zurich, followed by hours drinking champagne mixed with red bull (costing zillions of swiss francs) in a ski bar afterwards, and dancing like a prat in my ski boots.

Group of 10 of us in catered chalet in meribel.

10 days in Whistler visiting my bro who now lives there {envy}

6 months in Courchevel - well not exactly a holiday as was working as a chalet girl - but still a bloody good 6 months. In fact, pretty much rates as the best 6 months of my life!

Best job, and the worst paid, that I ever had, GOML.

Jan 2008 in Sauze d'Oulx, group of 20 and me with no dh or dd. Great snow and all the apres stuff too. I ended up being rugby tackled into the town fountain on the last night! It all took me back about 25 years!

LadyH - a girl I went to school with took a year out after A levels to do a chalet girl season. She never went to uni and as been back every year since (spends summer months working in a surf shop in Woolacombe) and is now 31.

She has a great life!

I had a lovely week in Courcheval about 5 years ago. Great conditions and sunny weather all week.

2 weeks in Steamboat with very best friend, post splitting up with boyfriend of years & years. Twas the best ever powder skiing and the added bonus was the slopes being littered with real life cowboys complete with stetsons & sometimes chaps aswell

I did it(the chalet girl thing) at age 30 and 31. BIt of an early mid life crisis thing. Wish I had done it 10 years earlier as think life could have been rather different. Not that I would change ny 2 DCs for anything, but hey ho. DS1 will be skiing for the first year this season. I can't wait for that!

Am thinking of taking a sabbatical and doing the chalet girl thing when DD is at uni - I had her when I was young so has no young and reckless behaviour years, will be late 30s when (if!) I do it.

Lake Tahoe. Pre-kids, with a bunch of friends, in a rented house. Filled the freezer with Ben & Jerrys, ate breakfast for free in the casinos, skied all day overlooking the lake on one side and the desert on the other, dinner and gambling (a little bit) every evening.

God, I've had sooo many fantastic ski holidays, it is difficult to pick out the best.
How about early Dec in Courmayeur, the first day of the season, unusual perfect weather and snow conditions.
No crowds, almost had the place to ourselves. Skiing with gorgeous boyfriend. Halfway down a pristine piste, me thinking "this is just heaven" , boyfriend proposes. . Went to bar, had champagne, just magical.
We have since skiied for the last 10yrs with our DC, and had some amazing ski holidays with them.
The most beautiful sound I have ever heard was their first time on skies. The combination of their tiny skis clattering and their laughter as they experienced their first 'run'. Unforgettable
