Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without lengthy television programmes counting down the year's best and worst moments. Here at MNHQ we're compiling a countdown you'll actually enjoy - the ten best Mumsnet threads of the year.

The task is far too important for us to take on alone, so we're turning to you for help. Let us know which have been your favourite threads this year - for making you laugh, cry or showing the best side of Mumsnet. We'll also ask folks in the Towers what they think, and create a page of the some of the MN highlights of the year.

We're already looking forward to seeing what you'll come up with! fsmile

OatcakeCravings Thu 12-Dec-13 17:47:20

Gluezilla

RowanMumsnet (MNHQ) Fri 13-Dec-13 11:17:46

Thanks Oatcakes... any more?

ZombieFromTheRealmOfGory Fri 13-Dec-13 14:39:00

For showing the best side of Mumsnet, any and all of the Woolly Hugs threads.

Zombie will keep thinking.

thekitchenfairy Fri 13-Dec-13 14:48:48

The recent mum of 14yo DS who has found his gf is pregnant is MN at its best. Such wise words and advice, has got all of us with older children thinking and having That Chat a bit sooner than we planned!

My other nomination would be Waves live birth thread. Soooo exciting she was so brave and we all rejoiced in the safe arrival of Acrobat.

Where is Waves btw? Not seen here for a while I think, hope she's doing ok.

I can't remember the poster's name <helpful> but it involved Spanish Bob and Fibrolls.

Also the thread about 'Auntie Tantrums' babysitting was very amusing.

There was one that made me sob in a happy way. It's in Classics so will go and dig it out.

OneHolyCow Fri 13-Dec-13 14:53:55

Ooh, there was was with knocking going on next door.. it turned into a hilarious detective story about drugs and all. It brought out a lot of inner detectives. Wasn't there a dog as well?

FacebookWanker Fri 13-Dec-13 14:54:02

The one with the cake system...was that this year? Had me in stitches. I think it's in Classics so will try and find it...

Here it is It made me very emotional.

Also Marmalade's Lemon Drizzle Thread. That has to be in there!

Lemon Drizzle has to be in there!

FacebookWanker Fri 13-Dec-13 15:00:59

Lemon Drizzle definitely!!

And the thread where the MIL kept searching the OPs house whilst babysitting so the OP planted emigration forms to Australia. That was awesome!

Reastie Fri 13-Dec-13 15:04:24

Got to be penis beaker grin

And the Yoni Massage thread! Brian from Hull wasn't it?!

SledYuleCated Fri 13-Dec-13 15:06:18

Definitely Tantrums' babysitting thread! fgrin

ChristmasJumperWearer Fri 13-Dec-13 20:40:35

LemonDrizzleBitch has to be up there.

PenisBeakerGate broke Mumsnet so deserves a special "most notorious thread" award all of it's own.

BellaVita Fri 13-Dec-13 20:45:31

I also loved Tantrums babysitting thread grin

Lemon Drizzle was my top thread of the year.

Lemon Drizzle

And the woman who received a christening invite including a gift list full of seriously expensive gifts for the mum (turned out to be a total mess - friend had PND, sister was arranging things for her and had employed an insane party planner) Wish I could remember the name!!!!!!!!!

frenchfancy Fri 13-Dec-13 20:58:18

Found it! (in classics)
"To be miffed at "Gift list for mother of the baby" enclosed in Baby naming ceremony invitation?"

usualsuspect Fri 13-Dec-13 21:13:03

Most of my favourite threads got deleted.

GreggsOnLegs Fri 13-Dec-13 21:13:52

The one where the mumsnetter was struggling looking after her Dh and her housework had gotten too much for her so a lovely bunch of mnetter's went round to help her clean and another mnetter sent for pizzas to be delivered to them.

WaitingForPeterWimsey Fri 13-Dec-13 21:20:52

I know it didn't start this year, but EMIN's drug dependent baby thread concluded this year with EMIN's family very sadly losing her hmm

That was the thread this year that affected me the most.

BlondieTinsellyMinx Fri 13-Dec-13 21:25:13

Lemon Drizzle (I can't look at one now without smirking)

The cleaning one as already mentioned - MN kindness at its best, along with the luffly woolly hugs folk

Brian and his Yoni offer, and the ensuing put downs gringringrin

The one with the car parked ON the OP's driveway, so she blocked them in and went to dinner

Maryz Fri 13-Dec-13 22:44:40

Mine too usual sad

<disclaimer: I'm not following you around, it's just a coincidence>

Maryz Fri 13-Dec-13 22:46:23

Oh, yes Waiting: if we are talking about threads that have really moved me, going back and reading all of EMIN's threads after her death has to be the most uplifting and simultaneously upsetting thing I've ever done sad

DownstairsMixUp Fri 13-Dec-13 22:48:09

Lemon drizzle, penis beaker, the yoni massage thread hulldadgate thingy to! Also i watched the whole fizzing over kids party thread (about fred's mother) was a good one to

usualsuspect Fri 13-Dec-13 22:53:12

The penis beaker was shite.

fizzly Fri 13-Dec-13 22:58:44
Maryz Fri 13-Dec-13 23:00:05

Anything but the PB, I would have thought hmm

DownstairsMixUp Fri 13-Dec-13 23:11:20

I still liked it (but not the influx of weird posters following said thread!)

BillyBanter Fri 13-Dec-13 23:25:00

Oh dear. there will be many evil MIL threads when condemned cake lady's children marry.

babysitting mayhem thread,

can't get my head around weasels.

lemon drizzle was brill.

gluezilla of course

RustyBear Fri 13-Dec-13 23:47:59

Graeme the budgie. And even if it doesn't make the shortlist, can you rescue it from Chat, as it's only got about a month left? I'd hate Gussie's cautionary bunny tale to disappear into oblivion.

BillyBanter Sat 14-Dec-13 00:37:40

Totally bursar's belly button fanged monster.

MrsClauswearsspanx Sat 14-Dec-13 00:43:31

Kittens in the bin!

and

Fencegate

pollywollydoodle Sat 14-Dec-13 00:50:07

auntie tantrums
lemon drizzle
hamwidge (bread-ham-bread)
grin

Shockingundercrackers Sat 14-Dec-13 00:52:09

Elaborate toasts.

MrsTwgtwf Sat 14-Dec-13 10:42:47

RustyBear, you beat me to it! Graeme the budgie should definitely be up there!

And it should at the very least be preserved forever in Mumsnet Classics.

smile

Reastie Sat 14-Dec-13 14:15:31

I somehow missed the lemon drizzle one, can anyone link? I'm very intrigued

Impomea Sat 14-Dec-13 14:34:49

Don't know when it was but the Jesus in the Cabbage Van/Ocado one made me cry grin

DecorKateTheXmasTreeMumsnet (MNHQ) Sat 14-Dec-13 16:13:26

Blimey was Brian from Hull only this year? Oh how the times flies!

If you have links to these thread we'd be v grateful brilliant for procrastinating

ExcuseTypos Sat 14-Dec-13 16:21:24

Brian from Hull was my favourite.

LidlAngel Sat 14-Dec-13 16:25:39

Yoni Massage from Hull made me laugh until I could barely breathe. That HAS to go in. Has to. And Marmalade's Lemon Drizzle thread, of only for introducing me to the phrase "citrus titted arse part" which I now use on a regular basis....

Angels search for all things pigeon related had me laughing so much at the kookiness of kids grin

FruOla Sun 15-Dec-13 10:52:06

I think that Jesus in the Cabbage Van must have been before last Christmas - or maybe even the Christmas before, Imp. I only remember that because the OP thought the delivery driver's name was so apt for a Christmas Ocado delivery fgrin

Certainly all the Gluezilla threads (4 in total, IIRC) because they kept us all entertained for nearly 2 months!

The One Night Stand at the Army barracks was pretty amusing too, but it got deleted in the end.

frenchfancy Sun 15-Dec-13 11:24:51

Can I change my vote to Graeme the Budgie please - Brilliant.

FruOla Mon 16-Dec-13 07:41:19
GiraffesAndButterflies Mon 16-Dec-13 07:46:53

Find the duck in the headboard! It's in Classics somewhere <lazy>

Also the chaos babysitting one which was exactly like something from Outnumbered. 'Twas brilliant.

GiraffesAndButterflies Mon 16-Dec-13 07:50:08

duck in the headboard

Oh and YY to Gluezilla.

Iheartcustardcreams Mon 16-Dec-13 08:06:40

Just read lemon drizzle cake....hilarious! Cheered me up this morning!

AMyrryChristmasToAllMumsnet (MNHQ) Thu 19-Dec-13 12:41:15

We're loving these threads, they are definitely helping us through the painful stupor post-Christmas party.

Get any last nominations in soon as we'll be drawing up our shortlist imminently!

OodKingWenceslas Thu 19-Dec-13 12:45:18

Oh EMINs thread(s) were very sad.

LadyBeagleEyes Thu 19-Dec-13 21:01:19

The postman, the Very Important Letter, Nazis and sexy postmen in shorts.
It was very entertaining, it was only a month or so ago.

OodKingWenceslas Fri 20-Dec-13 20:32:54

The police car on the drive was quite fun.

FruOla Fri 20-Dec-13 21:14:14

I think the police car on the drive thread has gone. The OP probably posted it in Chat, so it's now disappeared. But, I agree, it was rather funny!

I have just spent an entire morning catching up on 2013. I was meant to be wrapping presents and finding a dress. Curse you mumsnet!

YoniMatopoeia Sun 22-Dec-13 12:10:30

Oh. Will think about this one

Waves at thekitchenfairy I'm still about, although I keep a lower profile now as a particular person is still online stalking me. Acrobat is nearly 5 months now and so so lovely. He still sleeps every night with his gorgeous MN blanket smile

It was quite surreal updating the thread from the delivery room and so brilliant to be able to update everyone when he finally arrived, felt like I had hundreds of virtual birth partners. Everyone was so brilliant flowers

FruOla Sat 28-Dec-13 18:06:13

Just remembered another one. Technically it doesn't count, because it was posted in September 2012 - but the fashionistas in the taxi queue was utterly hilarious www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/1560709-To-be-annoyed-that-taxi-ranks-dont-let-families-in-first

BlondieTinsellyMinx Sat 28-Dec-13 21:46:10

I just read Graeme the budgie! Utterly hilarious! grin

FruOla Mon 30-Dec-13 10:31:03
NaturalBaby Tue 31-Dec-13 19:39:09
JaneEyresHeir Tue 31-Dec-13 20:27:15

Cailleach's orphaned kittens thread - she found six tiny flea ridden kittens in November, waited 3 hours for any sign of the mother, then took them home.
Cailleach hand reared them, getting up during the night to see to them, and kept us updated on their progress with fab pics and videos. Five of them survived - she and her family are keeping one, three have been adopted by MNers through the thread. Fudge, the cute black one, is still looking for a home....

FruOla Wed 01-Jan-14 07:56:40

NaturalBaby, I've linked to the Gluezilla threads upthread a wee bit - you'll find them at FruOla Mon 16-Dec-13 07:41:19

NaturalBaby Wed 01-Jan-14 09:55:37

Fab, thanks FruOla

RustyBear Wed 01-Jan-14 11:07:33

I'm surprised no-one's linked to the official final countdown yet...

KungFuBustle Wed 01-Jan-14 19:10:27

Thanks MNHQ thanks
That made my day.

CatherineMumsnet (MNHQ) Wed 01-Jan-14 22:52:56
