Is there any chance we might have some other less lurid colours for highlighting please?

I keep swapping between the pink and the green and while I don't wish to be rude or derogatory, I really find the colour options on offer are a bit lacking shall we say.

The only nice one is forest green but it is very dark.

Could we maybe have some more neutral ones? Beige or pale blue or you know, just not pink or green? We need at least two nice ones so I can highlight the OP and my own posts.

Very grateful if you might consider this. thanks

Rooners Sun 06-Oct-13 14:24:03

plus it clashes so badly with the blue and white!

RustyBear Sun 06-Oct-13 14:28:00

Oddly, I've always thought the highlighting colours were too wishy-washy!

BillyBanter Sun 06-Oct-13 14:34:14

I'm using an olivey green. I'd hardly call it lurid but it's not subtle. Quite dark. I do my own posts in pale pink which is subtle but pink.

Rooners Sun 06-Oct-13 16:57:47

Well yes, some are wishy and some are rather too gloomy I think.

I'm going at this from an artistic bent grin

Many people probably don't care at all. It is GREAT to have highlighting anyway so I'm grateful for that full stop.

But just...why go to the bother of having a lovely muted colour scheme and blue bits here and there and then ruin it with ghastly purple or gloomy green?

I think MN needs its colours done smile

I demand MORE lurid colours! Fluorescent shades please!

Rooners Sun 06-Oct-13 17:06:57

<hard stare>

That would not do AT ALL.

It would be AWESOME! Eyeburningly awesome! grin

Rooners Sun 06-Oct-13 17:12:03

Ok. I concede, but if it looks dreadful, it'll be your fault.

Do we have a deal?

Do you remember as kids when you covered a piece of paper with different wax crayons and then covered with a black wax crayon, then etched out a picture? Could we have something similar, so the type comes out multi coloured on a black foreground. Thanking you so very much grin

Rooners Sun 06-Oct-13 17:20:42

Oh God. Why did I start this? you bunch of goons grin

Ooh yeah! Black background with day glo writing!

Get on it Tech!

Rooners Sun 06-Oct-13 17:21:57

I only wanted a beige. Any beige - taupe even, or mushroom.

Is it too much to ask? [flagellates self on the steps of MN towers]

Rooners Sun 06-Oct-13 17:22:17

No one's got any taste any more.

BillyBanter Sun 06-Oct-13 17:22:46

I think you suit a nice sludgey green, rooners.

Now onestep, I think a yellow would really set off her posts nicely.

SoupDragon Sun 06-Oct-13 17:23:52

I'm using a light green - it's a lovely sage colour.

SoupDragon Sun 06-Oct-13 17:24:21

And for my posts I have a dusty lilac.

I use pink for the OP and grey for me. I have no issue with the colours.

Forget colours, let's go one step further...

Paisley! Stripes! Swirls! Geometric type thingies!

Rooners Sun 06-Oct-13 17:28:22

Billy that was UNCALLED FOR [angy][gin]

I think Beardy has officially lost the plot.

Pink and green look awful together though. I don't mind the light green or the light pink (though it's only been an hour or two, and it may prove too much shortly - it's like being in the girl baby section at Asda)

but having both is terrible.

We need subtle, neutral, laminate flooring and brown sofa compatible colours. Or we need an artistic theme with turquoise and deep red and ochre. Or something. and a weird luminous theme for the other sort of poster. hmm Not looking at anyone in particular.

SoupDragon Sun 06-Oct-13 17:28:50

flashing patterns maybe...?

SoupDragon Sun 06-Oct-13 17:29:27

We need subtle, neutral, laminate flooring and brown sofa compatible colours

And possibly some Twiggy Shit

Rooners Sun 06-Oct-13 17:29:32

Steady, Soupy.

Someone will say the T word in a minute.

SoupDragon Sun 06-Oct-13 17:30:02

It went through my mind...

.. and left a deep, deep scar.

Rooners Sun 06-Oct-13 17:30:38

Look I can alter the scheme on my phone. Why not here. A nice pebbly backdrop would be epic.

The customise page has got this lovely turquoisey ad on either side right now and it is soooo pretty. No idea what it is advertising mind.

BillyBanter Sun 06-Oct-13 17:33:16

We can have pebble pattern, sticks in vases pattern, heart shaped twig wreath pattern. That'd go with your brown sofa.

PatoBanton Sun 06-Oct-13 17:33:55

I can feel the sincerity in your post Billy.

(it is me btw, I had a sudden urge to name change)

Beardy never had the plot to begin with!! grin

True, true... grin

SoupDragon Sun 06-Oct-13 17:42:44

I think 2001 A Space Odyssey had a similar plot actually.

I find the white background a little boring, I like colour it's good for the soul. AIBU should be pink definitely, it would some people down in there. smile

BillyBanter Sun 06-Oct-13 17:52:33

You're not sludgy green any longer. angry

I've changed my posts to silver, but it's not silver it's dark grey sad

That's false advertising! shock

It will be tickers next!

"6 hours of benign neglect to go"

Trills Sun 06-Oct-13 18:19:22

I agree with Rusty - I think they are quite gentle colours - not lurid at all. Do you just have a strange screen?

PatoBanton Sun 06-Oct-13 18:52:15

Not as far as I know. Perhaps lurid was the wrong word?

I think in terms of its later meaning it is incorrect, but in the original etymology it is about right.

BillyBanter Sun 06-Oct-13 19:12:17

Well come back to me in the 17th century and then I'll listen!

Trills Sun 06-Oct-13 19:24:13

How odd, and interesting

Pronunciation: /ˈl(j)ʊərɪd/
unpleasantly bright in colour, especially so as to create a harsh or unnatural effect:

So it has always meant an unpleasant colour, but the way in which it is unpleasant has changed.

FruOla Mon 07-Oct-13 07:33:04

Rooners, I started a thread asking for more colours two years ago (different NN).

MNHQ said they'd think about it .............. nothing happened sad

PatoBanton Mon 07-Oct-13 08:19:40

Oh Fru I thought someone had already. So it was you! smile Well I hope they see this and say something, this time.

FruOla Mon 07-Oct-13 16:52:26

Oh, I wasn't trying to make a oneupmanship comment blush

I'm delighted that someone else has asked the same question smile

PatoBanton Tue 08-Oct-13 07:44:07

No no it didn't even cross my mind smile

I am glad it isn't just me who wants it to happen! And I knew it had been mentioned a whlie back but couldn't remember who by so hoped I hadn't trodden on any toes.

AmyMumsnet (MNHQ) Tue 08-Oct-13 10:18:19

<channels Farrow & Ball> We're envisioning marshmallow whisper or DH musk for the new colour scheme. Maybe we should get some mood boards going.

PatoBanton Tue 08-Oct-13 11:18:54

Are you serious Amy? smile

AmyMumsnet (MNHQ) Tue 08-Oct-13 17:09:39

Sadly no, although we would love to see what DH musk would look like!

Changes like these can be quite a bit of extra work for our poor tech team, so we would probably only do them if there was really high demand for it.

PatoBanton Tue 08-Oct-13 17:37:58

Ok. Thanks though - will see if I can drum up a bit more enthusiasm! smile
