It's driving me demented. Actually, this is the second day - it was doing the same last night too.

Poor Tech, he's probably still shut in his cold, wet shed .... desperately trying to feed the hamsters and fiddle with things sad

It's unusable!

hazeyjane Fri 24-May-13 19:30:40

aaaaaagh, sort it out, pleeeease.

the 2 hours of trying to get ds to sleep, whilst he whacks me repeatedly on the head and pokes his finger up my nose, is unbearable without mumsnet.

BoreOfWhabylon Fri 24-May-13 19:31:58

Kick it again, please!

There is nothing on TV tonight and I neeeeed MN!

MrsBertMacklin Fri 24-May-13 19:36:23

Ugh, this is more frustrating than when the batteries in my vibrator are running low.

piratecat Fri 24-May-13 19:37:09

lol thedoctrine

Thank goodness the massive text any isn't my phone. Spent about 20 minutes trying to figure out what I'd pressed (I'm practically a dinosaur & can't work my phone).

YY to kick things harder grin

Fuckwittery Fri 24-May-13 19:49:32

Bertmacklin grin looks like the problems are persisting, hope your batteries are charged. I was gloomily contemplating getting my oregnancy fitness dvd out the wrapper but that's a much better idea.

Wow that only took me 4 tries to post... Currently on 6 for this!

Oregnancy, Fuckwittery?

Was she off Eastenders? They're all jumping on the fitness video bandwagon these days.

HokeyCokeyPigInAPokey Fri 24-May-13 19:57:58

grin mrsmacklin

Kick it harder.....kick it harder...

MrsBertMacklin Fri 24-May-13 20:00:05

Not really into that sort of thing Hokey, think I'll stick with the vibrator.

ClaraOswald Fri 24-May-13 20:13:20

Feed the hamsters please.

TotallyBursar Fri 24-May-13 20:16:04

DH made a snotty comment about my mumsnet distress. To retain some pathetic sliver of dignity I told him it, didn't bother me I was about to do my video.
I had to do the 30 day shred. Twice.
The rest of the time I've been walking around refreshing the page, sad and hunched - like desperately hitting redial when the takeaway is engaged.

I don't know how long it will take me to forgive you. Or feel my legs.

TotallyBursar Fri 24-May-13 20:17:38

See? My punctuation muscle has been sprained.

Myliferocks Fri 24-May-13 20:21:07

I might actually have to start talking to my DC in a minute!

( shudders at thought! )

Tech (MNHQ) Fri 24-May-13 20:21:36

Hi, The intermittent site offline message should be better now. Sorry about that. The dodge-o sized buttons should be fixed overnight.

LineRunner Fri 24-May-13 20:22:30

Tech! Helloooo babe.

Yes it does seem a lot better now. Thank you. smile

Well done Tech!

Was it the Flux Capacitor?

usualsuspect Fri 24-May-13 20:28:05

Thank you, tech.

I've got rather fond of the great big purple sort button on TIO though.

I will miss it.

FruOla Fri 24-May-13 20:33:10

Tech, if you promise it's fixed, you can come to our London Meet Up tomorrow - although you'd better hop on a 'plane pretty smartish! grin

It seems fine now, Tech.

MadBusLady Fri 24-May-13 20:38:27

I liked that biscuit 404 page you had for a while, then it vanished again. Did it get crumbs all over everything? <understanding nod>

Tech (MNHQ) Fri 24-May-13 20:40:55

Why thank you FruOla. That's very kind of you but I must regretfully decline. Though the weather here in New York is very London-ish today... makes a person wistful for the old place.

OliviaMMumsnet (MNHQ) Fri 24-May-13 20:45:50

Tech

Why thank you FruOla. That's very kind of you but I must regretfully decline. Though the weather here in New York is very London-ish today... makes a person wistful for the old place.

Ack don't be wistful.
It's cold and miserable.
Noo Yawk is where it's at.

Tech (MNHQ) Fri 24-May-13 20:52:39

Hello MadBusLady, the biscuit 404 is still there. The site offline page is a 503 status message.

What happens (if you are interested) is that each request for a page is dealt with by a web server and an application server. When you request a page, the request goes to the web server which will delegate it to the app server if it's for something like a talk page, rather than a file like an image. If the app server fails to respond for whatever reason within a short timeout period, the web server sends back a status code of 503 to your browser, which means service unavailable, and also sends that site offline message so that the browser can display something.

Earlier this evening, an application server was overloaded because of a human error (possibly by me though I couldn't possibly confirm such a thing) and so wasn't responding to all requests quickly enough. So sometimes you got an "offline" and sometimes you got a page.

LineRunner Fri 24-May-13 20:58:31

Oh Tech, with all this honesty you are spoiling us.

FairyJen Fri 24-May-13 20:59:51

tech that was really interest zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

grin

MadBusLady Fri 24-May-13 21:05:26

Ah, I understand that!

<proud>

NetworkGuy Fri 24-May-13 21:05:32

Makes me feel al warm and fuzzy.

As you were smile

Thanks Tech, I am saving your message to read tonight as I'm been having difficulty getting to sleep and I think it might do the trick. grin

I'm been? Even more tired than I realised.

AtYourCervix Fri 24-May-13 21:46:53

I was once on an aeroplane that needed to be turned off then back on again. I shit myself.

usualsuspect Fri 24-May-13 21:54:48

I thought that was the problem.Tech. lies

TotallyBursar Fri 24-May-13 21:55:30

Tech - so you broke it only to save the day by fixing it again...do you feel you would benefit from talking about that? <head tilt>

I joke, thank you for giving us an explanation. I understand it too shock and working so hard to fix it obvs.

Tech, thanks. I understand it too, and these things happen.
I was forced had to go out to do stuff and thought that your uptime actually must be really good! Meeting SLA's I hope!

Still broken. Please please please fix it soon! Not going offline but text box & sizes all wrong.

The Threads I'm On page on my mobile app (Nokia Lumia) has got worse! The text size is only appropriate for people with a visual impairment. Otherwise it's completely impractical. I can only see about twenty words at a time on the screen.

piratecat Sat 25-May-13 09:10:50

i have posted about it before but now tech is here can you sort out the threads i am watching.
on the app. it never has them in date order. threads i am on is fine.

please have your 3 shredded wheat this morning. smile

I thought it was a miracle that i could see sad

NetworkGuy Sat 25-May-13 14:53:53

50shadesofbrown - might help Tech if you mention whether it is an Android phone (and which one) or iPhone or something else, such and a Windows phone and whether you are using a browser and which one or the MNet App, if you are having problems.

It might be the case they know what people are using from other threads, but I use a mix of Android phones, Windows, iMac and even a couple of Linux PCs so there are maybe 10 different possible browsers I could be using if I spot a problem (and I did the other day, where one of my 2 Sony Tipo phones showed none of the postings in a thread, but did show the top and bottom of the page, so the 'Add your message here' and box at the bottom was showing, and at the top it said 'Topics > Geeky Stuff' or similar and the thread title... but as it was only one one phone I assumed i had a setting wrong...)

NetworkGuy Sat 25-May-13 14:55:14

sorry about the typos... I really must get to bed sometime!

MegBusset Sat 25-May-13 14:56:19

I'm on an iPhone and Threads I'm On is buggered. The font size is mahoosive!

AtYourCervix Sat 25-May-13 15:07:02

IT'S HUUUUUUGGGGGGGEEEE

Mine is OK again now. (text size on TIO)

TIO Page appears fixed. However the text box is still massive & ridiculous. I'm on a Samsung Galaxy Y running on Android.

Just realised, a lot of the purple boxes (like the one that says 'page 1 of 4' or the calendar on the Search page) are really tiny. I mean they are so small they are practically illegible. Aargh!

Sorry I'm just on a browser not an app.

NetworkGuy Sun 26-May-13 02:07:05

50 on a mobile phone, or tablet, or PC? Apple, Windows, Android?

NetworkGuy Sun 26-May-13 02:16:22

Using an Archos 70 ( Android 2.3 ) tablet with Dolphin browser and must agree that text input box allows under 40 char width as font nice and big, but displayed posts run to approx 170 char across screen. Think input font could do with slight reduction (50 char width) and output slight increase (110 char width) perhaps?

Purple box text seems smaller still but may be optical illusion, but given plenty of space within box, could it be a teensy bit bigger, please?

NetworkGuy Sun 26-May-13 02:20:19

No, not optical illusion...

34 char of my post, but 60 char in purple box, so font really could be bumped up significantly in purple box.. it is almost unreadable, as if it is 5pt!!

NetworkGuy Sun 26-May-13 02:21:46

And it's hardly likely that First Previous Next Last will bump into each other smile

NetworkGuy Sun 26-May-13 02:30:02

Size was fine when I used 'desktop' not 'Android' user agent ID in Dolphin, but then text input went to pot (guess JS or something, but perhaps a bug in browser and nothing to do with MN... except I also had some error about must not be a blank post... ad that must be from MN... then again browser perhaps acted prematurely as if I had hit both Preview and Post as I had 2 error messages!)

NetworkGuy Sun 26-May-13 02:32:37

Back to try desktop mode and working fine, so far, at least on this tablet..

It keeps breaking on my ipad

Tech (MNHQ) Mon 27-May-13 03:30:16

Hi the text size problem on android should be fixed now.

NetworkGuy Mon 27-May-13 10:47:54

Thanks for that - will take a look.

NetworkGuy Mon 27-May-13 10:49:05

OYBBK - break probably needs a bit more 'description'...
