excessive use of "stickies" , imho

there are ten.... not so bad when you are looking on a pc or laptop screen, but on the mobile app it's hideous. imho, obv.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo Tue 21-May-13 22:14:19

change your pref to 'no stickies'?

I'm the same on the mobile app.

My settings, as far as I was aware are for 'no stickies', have never had them on the app before and they don't show up when I am on my laptop (ie now).

Off to check settings, glad I'm not the only one who's noticed it though.

Mintyy Tue 21-May-13 22:16:44

I'm fairly sure you can hide them, like any other thread.

MrsShrek3 Tue 21-May-13 22:18:30

oooh. but I am too nosey to hide anything much I must investigate...
common sense as usual Aitch wink

Mintyy Tue 21-May-13 22:20:43

Yip, just hidden them all.

So ... you think there are too many stickies but you are too nosey to hide them confused

Hassled Tue 21-May-13 22:20:59

They do tend to lose all meaning when there are hoardes of the blighters. I don't even pay attention anymore - when there was one stickied thread every once in a while I'd always read it, on the basis that it had to be important. I don't want to hide them - presumably some of them are still interesting. But they've become wallpaper.

MrsShrek3 Tue 21-May-13 22:22:23

well I think I must be missing something grin

Hidden em now.
wine minty grin

Ok, I have the stickies unselected (?) in Customise, I have done this on my laptop.

However, sat here with my phone next to me, I have just checked the Active Convos and the stickies are still there.

So, I can't just hide them as they aren't showing on my Active Convos via my laptop and there is no function to hide them on the android app.

I am at the mercy of baby brain, please be kind, am I missing something?

probably am

grin

*I rarely use my laptop as it's crap and takes eleventy hours to boot up.

I use my phone to MN 99.9% of the time. I need rid of the stickies.

MrsShrek3 Tue 21-May-13 22:29:19

ditto, Too (but don't have the babybrain excuse) grin

They're still there on my android
<scream>

I think there's a glitch.

Have you reported this thread to get MNHQ's attention?

RedBushedT Tue 21-May-13 22:34:08

I thought this earlier. had to scroll through most of the page just to get past the stickies! very annoying. They lose all meaning when there are so many...

I've reported.

<taps fingers>

<whistles>

<decides to go to bed as knackered>

Hopefully there'll be a resolution by morning - I'll be back around 4am ish <hint hint>

grin

Oh! We'll pass this on to tech so that he can work some magic.

We hope your dh is doing well, MrsShrek3.

Ginformation Tue 21-May-13 23:03:59

ah, yes me too. Thought I was being thick... Stickies definitely switched off in customise, but still very much present on the app (android, if that makes a difference).

RenterNomad Tue 21-May-13 23:04:00

Nothing to add on the question of stickies, but just want to observe how refreshing it is to have Android namechecked, rather than the usual wall-too-wall apologies for poor typing because of a "bloody iphone" or "bloody ipad"!

MrsShrek3 Tue 21-May-13 23:04:36

cheers Julie. yes he is thankusmile

Tech (MNHQ) Tue 21-May-13 23:10:22

Hi MrsS, where are you seeing these ten stickies? Is it on active conversations or on a topic?

I'm seeing them in Active Convos on android app only. When on laptop they are hidden as per my customised settings.

MsInterpret Tue 21-May-13 23:12:43

Is there a quick way to hide threads on the app?

Or any way, in fact? Ive got time...

Tech (MNHQ) Tue 21-May-13 23:27:44

I don't think there is a way to hide threads on the app. It sounds like the process on our side that sends data to the app is not requesting your sticky preference. We should be able to fix that - I'll take a look at it.

you can't hide anything on the app.

On laptop / pc etc, you go to the Active Convos page, there is a hide button on the right of each thread.

if it isn't there, go to Customise (at the top of the Talk section) and there are many options including one to show the hide button.

Make sure you save changes before clicking back to the main talk area.

thanks Tech.

This has only been happening this past week, it is a recent glitch if that helps smile

MrsShrek3 Tue 21-May-13 23:33:59

sorry SirTech- back lateblush

it's on the active convos. It looks like I am not alone with my Ishoos wink
it fills my tiny crappy screen.
very impressed if you can fix shock grin

I have an Amazing Suggestion.
Confiscate Justine's pritt stick (and everyone elses for that matter) and stop the buggers sticking so many things on there wink

BigStickBIWI Tue 21-May-13 23:54:32

I know that MNHQ usually try and restrict the number of stickies to 5, which I think makes sense.

But actually I don't think you should be able to hide stickies. After all, they are stickied because they are important. And the best example of this is the Christmas Appeal.

I lost count of the number of posters who said they hadn't seen any of the posts about the Christmas Appeal, despite it being stickied for ages. Presumably a fair proportion of these must have hidden the stickied posts.

MrsShrek3 Wed 22-May-13 00:00:52

indeedy BIWI. maybe the Christmas appeal should have a superglue-teflon-coated special bauble sticky that can't be hidden by people with crappy little phone screens like me
I'm off before I out myself as absolutely bonkers wine
oops too late

I hide them when the sea of purple gets too much.

Most of them are totally irrelevant to non UK MNers like me so I rarely even read the titles, but then I miss stuff <can't win>

MrsShrek3 Wed 22-May-13 00:09:22

btw now there are 11shock

Lioninthesun Wed 22-May-13 00:21:03

Oooh, I don't think I even know what 'Stickies' are!?
I thought I was mis-reading sickies or perhaps something to do with the Stick Man book confused
I'll go now... <grabs coat>

Ginformation Wed 22-May-13 08:59:08

There are 17 stickies on active convos... I don't want to miss anything, but really it is too much on my phone screen. It doesn't hurt me to scroll down, but it does make me ignore all the stickies! Fewer of them would be good.

HelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Wed 22-May-13 09:15:14

Hello. This is most worrying.

We NEVER have more than five stickies in Active, so it's most odd that you're seeing more.

Can those of you who ARE seeing more let us know how you're viewing MN please? (ie computer/laptop or phone with app, desktop, mobile etc etc)

Thank you

RenterNomad Wed 22-May-13 09:44:17

I can see 5. This on an Android phone.

I can see 4, android app.

Last night there were about 10 though

mindalina Wed 22-May-13 10:00:56

I have 23 stickied threads on my android app! They go back to November when I first installed the app. Maybe I need to reinstall it??

Steffanoid Wed 22-May-13 10:38:08

HelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Wed 22-May-13 10:46:53

Blimey! OK, so it's mainly happening to folks using the android app then?

We'll try to work out what's going on.

Ginformation Wed 22-May-13 11:35:53

18 now... Android app on phone and tablet. All have been active in last day or 2 so I not getting old ones.

HelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Wed 22-May-13 11:37:44

Right. Annoyingly, we can't replicate this on our androids in the office.

We'll keep trying to work out what's going on, though.

Tech (MNHQ) Wed 22-May-13 14:04:27

Hi, We think this is a fault in the android app itself. Have you tried deleting and reinstalling it? Does that help? Sorry, we know it's a pain.

I will give it a go and report back smile

Ginformation Wed 22-May-13 14:15:42

I just delted the app and reinstalled, andnow only 5 stickies. smile

I didn't get any stickies until this last week on the app, then it was like an explosoin in a post-it factory.

Ooh thanks Tech, down to five after reinstalling.

HelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Wed 22-May-13 14:36:45

Yay!

This is why I hate my phone. It let me delete the app, is telling me it has installed it but I can't find it [stabs phone]

I will report back.....possibly!

Steffanoid Thu 23-May-13 14:37:46

mine have gone from 5 after reinstall to.6 today....hmm

MooncupGoddess Thu 23-May-13 14:50:10

I have 17. I cleared my data a couple of weeks ago which set the stickies back to 5, but they've just mounted up again.

MrsShrek3 Thu 23-May-13 22:03:36

now look. Trying to hoover up all those stickies broke the techboxshock

RowanMumsnet (MNHQ) Thu 23-May-13 22:06:50

Hello

Really sorry about this; it looks like a fault in the Android version of the app - it's 'storing' all stickies permanently. We will try to get this fixed, but in the meantime you might want to stick with the mobile site... Sorry blush

MrsShrek3 Thu 23-May-13 22:10:25

STICK with the mobile sitegrin grin

RowanMumsnet (MNHQ) Thu 23-May-13 22:13:29

Well I'm glad we can all laugh about it

<runs away>

MrsShrek3 Thu 23-May-13 22:35:50

hehe no wonder you run grin many many suggestions as to where to stick your stickies wink

MrsShrek3 Mon 27-May-13 21:54:44

hmm. now there are 12 againhmm

Steffanoid Mon 27-May-13 22:08:19

im back up to 9...

Just to let you know HQ I have 23 stickies today after uninstalling and reinstalling the app - also on android.

Tech (MNHQ) Mon 27-May-13 23:14:09

Hi, we think the stickies sit around on the android app forever. The only way to get rid of them is to delete it and reinstall it. Sorry about that. It's on the list of things to fix. The problem with fixes to the apps is that you have to go through the whole rigmarole of specifying the fixes, getting them developed, then submitting the app to the app stores for an update, all of which take time. It's not like the site where we can just fix things overnight. Sorry for the delay. It is on the list. I'd advise using the mobile site if the stickies problem is very annoying for you. Sorry we can't be more immediate help.

Tigerbomb Mon 27-May-13 23:18:48

I have 19 stickies again. Dating back to 27 Nov 2012. sad

Thanks Tech I did this last week, but will do again.

Steffanoid Thu 06-Jun-13 21:20:06

have figured out if you go to installed apps on your phone ( mine is in settings>applications) then wipe data it'll wipe the stickies when they build up and you just log in again, loads and loads faster than deleting and reinstalling the app

TheYamiOfYawn Fri 07-Jun-13 08:15:43

I'll give that a go, as I have 27 at the moment.

HelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Fri 07-Jun-13 12:55:29

Yikes at 27! shock
