Can we have a Margaret Thatcher topic please?

(73 Posts)

I think any comments on here may put all the AH stuff in the shade.

LadyMountbatten Mon 08-Apr-13 13:29:12

you are and I are as ONE/

Yes Lady all of it. Or split it into two, depending on your view. Then I will hide the whole thing. grin

LadyMountbatten Mon 08-Apr-13 13:30:21

me too

LadyMountbatten Mon 08-Apr-13 13:31:10

lets keep chatting sparkers

then you tell me to fuck the fuck off and then I can report you, then MNHQ will have to read the thread

AnyFucker Mon 08-Apr-13 13:32:07

yes please

then the people who possess a tiny bit of compassion, even while disagreeing with some of the things she stood for, can avoid all the twats who will be jumping on the hating bandwagon

LadyMountbatten Mon 08-Apr-13 13:32:26

Btw did you KNOW sparkers that OliviaMN wears pants like this?

grin It's getting to the point where I daren't post. One of my posts was quoted in the DM about AH. I can't get reported, or i will be in more trouble.

ImTooHecsyForYourParty Mon 08-Apr-13 13:33:07

I agree. I think it is going to take over the board and it really would make more sense to keep it to one thread, maybe even a stickied thread, and delete the rest.

It's going to get ugly, I tell you that.

LadyMountbatten Mon 08-Apr-13 13:33:19

and Justine when she has just got up looks like this here

Kyrptonite Mon 08-Apr-13 13:33:37

I agree. Have just had a fb rant at a couple of twats over their statuses.

LadyMountbatten Mon 08-Apr-13 13:33:44

did oyu suggest amanda holden fires mumsnetters on rockets into lebanon?>

It really is Hecsy and bearing in mind the DM business at the moment MN quotes will appear everywhere. sad

LadyMountbatten Mon 08-Apr-13 13:34:14

you know TIlly book club?

She doesnt read them, she places them all in a circle and spins the bottle

Not exactly Lady but I may have dissed her talent show. sad

LadyMountbatten Mon 08-Apr-13 13:36:09

it is a crap talent show, you were right

STAND PROUD my beauty.

ExcuseTypos Mon 08-Apr-13 13:38:19

I agree.

There too many threads about it, and there are already personal attacks on the one I clicked on.

It's not going to end wellsad

Keep the bunfights one one thread.

LadyMountbatten Mon 08-Apr-13 13:39:36

ive reported us sparkers

LadyMountbatten Mon 08-Apr-13 13:41:58

AnyFucker Mon 08-Apr-13 13:42:19

< Shhh, shhhh >

Behave, peeps, Helen is on her way...

Kneedeepindaisies Mon 08-Apr-13 13:42:20

I agree but if we can't have a topic can you just shove them all in politics and I'll hide that instead.

Is their a Politics topic? blush

LadyMountbatten Mon 08-Apr-13 13:43:27

She LOVES kittens so much they live in her house and her kids live outin a shed.

Kneedeepindaisies Mon 08-Apr-13 13:43:53

Yes I double checked before I posted

LadyMountbatten Mon 08-Apr-13 13:44:15

me to = you see Sparkers is there like a flipping flash

HelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Mon 08-Apr-13 13:44:30

Afternoon. And thanks for the suggestion.

We'll see how it goes, we think.

With any big news event, we tend to get quite a few threads as the story breaks - that's quite normal - and trying to corrall them into one thread would be almost impossible.

However, if, as with the Madeleine McCann ones, the threads continue to proliferate for days and days and days on end, we will look at trying to have one official thread - just for sanity's sake.

We have posted on some of the Thatcher threads already to remind people that, though we have no problem with folks expressing strong opinions about Thatcher's political legacy, we will delete posts that we consider to be beyond the pale. And, just for clarity, we would consider posts about 'dancing on her grave' to be beyond the pale.

I must have it hidden already Knee. blush

LadyMountbatten Mon 08-Apr-13 13:44:55

and the kittens helen? hmm

* whistles casually *

Thanks HelenMN.

HelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Mon 08-Apr-13 13:46:44

Kittens? <dog person face>

HazeltheMcWitch Mon 08-Apr-13 13:48:07

Wow, you got quoted in the DM, Sparkling!
I bow down to your presence, for I am not worthy.
How comes I missed that thread, back in 2012? I seek out sleb-twaddle threads, like a moth to a flame. sad

LadyMountbatten Mon 08-Apr-13 13:48:33

oh it was just me trying to slander you and LURE you onto the thread

HelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Mon 08-Apr-13 13:48:58

oh it was just me trying to slander you and LURE you onto the thread

Darn, it worked!

AnyFucker Mon 08-Apr-13 13:49:06

thanks, helen

I didn't even remember the thread from 2012 TBH. I feel really horrible about it all. sad

HazeltheMcWitch Mon 08-Apr-13 13:52:03

No, don't feel horrid!
You certainly don't seem horrid.

MrsHoarder Mon 08-Apr-13 13:53:02

It'll all be over in about a week. Not worth setting up a separate topic for because you know no-one would use it anyway

HotelTangoFoxtrotUniform Mon 08-Apr-13 13:53:19

Do you consider "ding dong the witch is dead" to be acceptable then MNHQ?

I think I might hide in here too, if that's ok.

Thank goodness for the hide button!

Kneedeepindaisies Mon 08-Apr-13 13:55:20

Don't feel horrid. 2012 is a stupidly long time ago for them to quote from and pretend that it's relevant today.

On another note, I've just hidden the MT threads. I thoroughly enjoyed it

LadyMountbatten Mon 08-Apr-13 13:55:37

theres the whole funeral yet

Abra1d Mon 08-Apr-13 13:56:53

{Heaves sigh of relief and pulls up chair}

Kneedeepindaisies Mon 08-Apr-13 13:57:26

I didn't even think of that Lady. sad

HelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Mon 08-Apr-13 14:46:52

Nope. We deleted that one a while ago.

HotelTangoFoxtrotUniform Mon 08-Apr-13 14:58:54

There's one that slipped through the net, Helen. Have sent a report of the post.

I didn't realise that people were actually so horrid. I think I'll stay in my bubble today.

Fenton Mon 08-Apr-13 15:02:05

I've hidden about four in the past 20mins, actually it was a toss-up between hiding or clicking to see who all the grave dancers were, for future reference and all.

I've opted for hiding.

HotelTangoFoxtrotUniform Mon 08-Apr-13 15:02:59

Just don't try to reason with them, Fenton

Hiding is the only option.

I've hidden 5 threads so far.

If it was all in one topic I could hide the entire thing and go about oblivious.
And, can you make people put "this is a Margaret thatcher thread" in the title please so I can just hide it without opening it?
Rather than having to open a thread and then go AAARRGGGHHH when I realise it's another grave dancing thread.

Can I hide in here too? When I heard the news on the radio my first thought was "ah shit this is going to kick off". Possibly I spend too much of my life on here grin

LadyMountbatten Mon 08-Apr-13 15:39:06

* mans barricades*

sassytheFIRST Mon 08-Apr-13 15:42:27

Yes pls MNHQ. Two threads, one topic.

"aw she's dead what a shame, eh"
"great she's dead at last"

And no more cluttering up the site with unedifying stuff. We can get back to discussing midi skirts on the over 40s. (yay or nay, do we think?)

YY sassy, but no no to the mini skirts. grin

TheRealFellatio Mon 08-Apr-13 15:49:59

I can't hide the threads, however deeply unpleasant they may get. I'm just lying low and taking notes, updating my spreadsheets etc....

It would help enormously to have them all in one place though. grin

sassytheFIRST Mon 08-Apr-13 15:51:18

MiDi skirts, sparkling, keep up!

I wear minis a lot - good legs even if they are 40 years old and a few months.

Ooh sorry sassy thought it was a typo but then given what you do for a living I should have known. grin And I didn't think you were over 40.

I do not have the legs for a mini.

One of the threads has claimed Jimmy Saville was Mrs T's best mate or something. confused

LadyMountbatten Mon 08-Apr-13 15:56:27

what does she do? Sell minis?
treat mono brows?

She owns a midi skirt shop for the over 40s wink

sassytheFIRST Mon 08-Apr-13 16:00:58

Same trade as you milady. We've crossed swords on many an education in Birmingham thread.

I nearly educated the sparkly one's oldest. Then they jumped ship wink

sassytheFIRST Mon 08-Apr-13 16:01:45

Why the monobrow comment?

Can you SEE me? shock

But she may be getting my youngest in Sept 2014. grin

LadyMountbatten Mon 08-Apr-13 16:07:57

No. I am sure your brows and skirts are Luvvly.

( note patois)

Kneedeepindaisies Mon 08-Apr-13 16:07:58

Is Midi knee length? confused

You can tell I'm never on the S&B threads.

sassytheFIRST Mon 08-Apr-13 16:21:43

Ar, theym luvvly. Roight noice.

HoneyDragon Mon 08-Apr-13 20:47:56

I'm finding this very hard. Having been directly helped by MT, I am increasingly fed up of people trying to out vile each other about how pleased they are that she is dead.

Please consider a topic as I don't want to have to fuck off till some people have finished being fucking juvenile. They aren't even discussing her politics or history. They are simply attention seeking.

Kneedeepindaisies Mon 08-Apr-13 21:39:57

Anymore thoughts on the Maggie topic MNHQ?

Pretty please.

Or put them all in politics or in the news.

I will give you wine

WorraLiberty Mon 08-Apr-13 22:06:43

I'm the first to whinge and moan that MN has far too many topics

But Jeez even I'd like to see a MT topic , just to get all the threads and bun fights off the main talk topics.

The only slight positive is that it's put the whole attention seeking by AH back in the shade.

And just before BGT starts too...what a shame grin

KnottingnotKnitting Mon 08-Apr-13 22:28:27

I think it's a great idea, am pretty new here and was shock at some of the venomous comments today. Can I wait it out in here please? I have some wine

Knotting it will blow over. Just get involved in the nonsense threads while you wait. I am glad I wasn't on MN when Madeleine McCann went missing I think.

WeDigUpTheRoad Tue 09-Apr-13 11:22:24

Please please do this. I've already hidden about 15 threads.

AIBU not to be glad Thatcher's dead?
AIBU to be glad Thatcher's dead?
AIBU to eat cheese while I decide if I'm glad or not that Thatcher's dead?

Never mind the chat/in the news/politics and probably Telly Addicts ones.
