Afternoon.
We are currently mopping up after close on 100 (and that's just the last count) spammers posted all over our boards last night and this morning.
Thank you for all your reports. We hope you'll understand that we're not going to reply to them. Please take it as read that we're really grateful.
IMPORTANT: we think we have tabs on pretty much all of the spammers now, so (even if we haven't deleted them all yet) so there is no need to report any more. In fact, any more reports and our system might keel over!
Once we can see the wood for the trees, we'll post again and ask you to report any remaining spam posts we might have missed.
Please bear with us. We are getting there.
Any Qs, do post em here and we'll do our best to answer you.
Bunch of twats.
Spammers...not MNHQ

Can you give me a rough idea of what time that was, Hecate?
I have a link for you to watch that online Helen.
about a few minutes ago. can i pm you with a link?
Crap, as I posted that my sky froze! I may actually need to watch it online! (Sky go btw, not spammy mcspammerson links)
Don't worry Helen,we will wup their asses..Tottenham and the spammers

NOT FUNNY
Well done team MNHQ - comfort yourselves with the knowledge that to enjoy spamming MN the spammers must have brains
>.< that big.
<quietly giggling at glaikit>
DP says to inform you that you're not missing much Helen.
<pops head round door> um Helen, what side of north London to you dress to??
Well, it's got more interesting now
She's a gooner, I believe, Glaikit - in which case she may be happy not to be watching - Tottenham are now 1-0 up.
2-0 up now
Not Helen's happiest day, then...
<passes more gin to Helen> ice and a slice??
It may get better for Helen. As a life long Spurs supporter I know its entirely possible to lose 5-2 from this point.

Think I may need something stronger...
Whiskey?? I have a rather fine single malt, or there is turps in the shed!
What a nightmare day for all of you at MNHQ, have

We luffs you MNHQ. More

Is this a bad time to ask for gin, chocolate and cake emoticons?
Ohhh please do not Spam local, my internet is down at home
Well done Helen, Olivia and all. What a crap way to have to spend a Sunday.
More gin &
from me.
Quick sober up Helen all is not lost!
Hello HQ. I feel really sorry for you all. May I ask please is there anything in place to stop it happening again overnight? eg adding a captcha to the registration process or all night monitoring?
You seem to be winning the battle of Spamalot now MNHQ.

I haven't seen a single one.
Either I am just not on here enough

or the gin is working
There's one further down this section!
Helen/Olivia it's from googleman737. You copped 5 of his posts which are still cached on Google, but there are still a couple left.
Maybe keep one for posterity?

Well done HQ
Oh lordy .... you poor MNHQPeeps.
There are still quite a few of the spambot threads here and there, but I'm not going to bother you 'cos I'm sure you're catching up with them as we speak. Crapola [humpfh emoticon]
Hard work's appreciated HQ
Might it be worth explaining what a spambot is and why such things occur? I've seen a lot of people say 'but what's the point, I don't really want to watch football, why would they post it on a parenting site' and although I haven't, for obvious reasons, clicked any of the links, I'm worried that people might do so out of curiousity. Spambot links of this nature ('watch sports for free', 'see naked women', 'see scandalous pictures of celebrity', that kind of thing that draws people in) are frequently used to infect people's PCs with nasty malware, so people clicking them would be a bad thing.
Thanks HQ - what a nightmare
Thank you.
hi everyone
just popping in to ask where i can see tv streamed live to my pc
anyone know
* innocent look *
Helen - I'd be looking at something stronger for your defence against Spurs this afternoon.
hth
It sounds like you've been cleaning the Augean Stables MNHQ. Have some
, though
is just as appropriate...
I reported a load of spam from 7am and see you still have about 100 spam messages in unanswered threads, nearly 12 hours later <gulps>
What is the best way of reporting? After a while, I felt as if I was just adding to your workload, by drawing attention to each new spambot. Should we report, say 5, and then stop, or report new ones until we get bored with pressing report?
I noticed a very strange post re a Garelic football match- was that the spammers?
Oops Gaelic football match. Bloody iphone
I think the line is, stop reporting for now while they sweep through, and MNHQ will say when we shoud start reporting any missed shit spam.
You mean I've got to stop providing bogus match analysis for each broadcast and discourage MNers from signing up? Damn!
Isn't bogus match analysis what Alan Hansen does?
Thanks linerunner I only reported at 7 this morning, when active conversations were completely cluttered from the overnight spam. I really hope the spambots aren't busy again tonight, as I think it happened on Friday night too.
LR - I've been asking for that comment all day! thank you. ( but for Arsenal today it was 'dreadful defending')
Pan, are you actually Alan Hansen?

Alan Pan-sen, that's you, that is.
If Pan is actually Alan Hansen, can I just say something
*what the fuck were you thinking with that Morrison's advert"
I thank you
I dont understand what the point of spambots is either?
And would all 100 originate from the same place, person, or orginisation since they are coordinated?
"You don't win anything with kids" ( at the start of the season 97/98 with Giggs, Beckham, Scholes for Man Utd, who went on the do the Premiership/ FA Cup double that season...) I should have been sacked then. Morrisons? I was young. I needed the money!
Any - I think Alan was thinking "kerching"
I don't think there is any point, other than causing problems. Either for Tech and HQ who have to try and get rid of them or unsuspecting users who click on the links and then have to clear their PCs of malware etc.
million There are lots of forums where the moderators aren't on the ball.
If they can get even 10% of their posts up on the internet permanently and people click on them, it can generate revenue for the commissioning website.
Also, Google picks up the links to the spam posts and increases the number of hits on them through searches.
The posts could all be from the same person or a small group. It is quite possible to write software that is "press a button and spam". It's a simple process of keystroke logging, and all the spammer has to do is record the sequence and then replicate it again and again, anywhere and everywhere.
In some cases last night there were 20+ posts from the same username posted in the same minute. They were coming faster than it was humanly possible to post. Meanwhile the spammer was posting on other forums at almost the same time!
One problem for MNHQ is that sometimes these peope have built up a "bank" of usernames weeks before the attacks, and suddenly they unleash them. Doing things like banning new registrations doesn't help in that case - a bit like shutting the door on the Augean stables (great allegory, Greenhill - take a gold star
) after the horse has bolted.
Likewise there is no point in doing as some MNetters suggested - emailing them back. The email addresses are fake or dead letter boxes.
As Clay says, lots of malware hiding there as well - and other nasty stuff. Never click on a spam link, even out of curiosity.
Thanks for writing that.
I didnt really know about much of that, especially the first 2 sentences of the explanation.
I havent clicked on any, so dont understand how they would get any revenue from them?
And didnt understand the Google bit that you wrote about at all.
YouveCatToBeKittenMe
Spookily accurate
Noooo DO click on spam links! For instance, I'm about to get 3/4M$ from a Nigerian Bank, have a Russian Olympic swimmer as a bride, and, just in time, my cock will be 3 inches bigger!! Click away! Ignore these nay-sayers.

Hello HQ. I feel really sorry for you all. May I ask please is there anything in place to stop it happening again overnight? eg adding a captcha to the registration process or all night monitoring?
Yes, of course. There certainly is.
When you google something the sites that show up at the top of the lists are the ones you are most likely to go to, and they are the most 'popular' (or most paid for!) sites, and they and the agents that resulted in that happening do well out of that.
Alan Pansen, behave.
again. Just wanted to share the joy of spam.

I am still expecting the $1.6m lottery win I was promised at least 3 years ago. I will complain furiously before long.
million The revenue comes two ways. When you click on the link you are drawn into a site where they sell stuff legitimately, legal or illegal, nice or nasty.
Otherwise you get stuff like pop-ups where your PC screen suddenly goes blank and you are told that you have a fatal computer error, and only by clicking on it can you retrieve the situation. It looks legit but within moments you are asked for your credit card details to resolve the problem ... or they retrieve your personal information ... or they hack your passwords ... or they hack your emails. The list is endless.
The internet is a very unsafe place. The best advice is to have strong passwords (Google it for yourself - don't trust a link from me
) and change them regularly, especially for email accounts. Also, never ever use the same password for internet banking and finances as you do for anything else.
And once again, never click on a link that may not be trustworthy, never open a link sent to you by email unless you trust the sender and it is in character for them - someone you know who is a quiet homebird with a Hotmail account is not going to send links about Viagra!
Delete the post and tell them that their account has been hacked and they need to change the passwrod.
Enough already. Time for gin!
AF, I liked Kofi Pannan - just thought it was too subtle for the riff-raff.

^ a small token of appreciation for everyone at MNHQ
I can offer a live streaming of Man Utd V Real Madrid on Tuesday night, to be viewed at Pan Heights, with me and my Coventry City supporter. £50 entrance fee, with one white wine spritizer as a complement. <it's also available on ITV live but we don't like to advertise that fact....Ooops!>
Ooh - I'll come to that, Pan. Assume you have a comfy sofa?
ha! We have a big sofa and a deep-buttoned Chesterfield, and an array of cushions for those who like to pretend to be en terrace - ie near the screen. (sad really).
Thank you for dealing with this and well done.

I've not had very much involvement in all of this but this thread caught my attention especially as a link has been provided www.mumsnet.com/Talk/site_stuff/1698650-wtf-is-the-Horrible-Histories-comp-about
It appears to be about a comp on MN?
Report something that you don't think is right.
Oh I have line, sorry I should have mentioned that but I know HQ are now drunk on gin so busy so thought it best to post here as well not mentioning that I was told to chillax on the thread
I want some gin.
Dear HQ,
I started a thread about this on thursday night, regarding night time trolling and how it is dealt with, but never really got any answer.
When Worras thread was finally taken down, we were told that there were procedures in place to spot this kind of thing at night, and Worras had just slipped through the net. But when the spambot hit, with literally hundreds of threads, it took more than an hour for anyone at HQ lovely tech to notice. I know it is the middle of the night when this happens, but this is also a time when vulnerable people may really need help, take 'Relationships' for instance, and their posts are getting missed because of mass spamming, or trolled with foul posts as in another recent invasion when sick posts weren't deleted until morning.
Could we get some feedback on the night trolls situation please?
I may or may not have included the line "spam spam spam spam" in a report to HQ last night, whilst singing the Monty Python song in my head...
<Marking place for reassurance that all is indeed all right with the world again and that MNHQ haven't yet run out of gin>
deccacards, I'm a quiet Homebird, until I've had a few gins!
Dear MNHQ,
If you need more staff, I'm looking for a job
.
But I don't drink gin so does that rule me out?
Well done hq
Thanks for all your kind words and <gin>
Hugely appreciated.

Sorry, Saggy, if you don't think we answered you properly last time.
It may help to know that we can't really elaborate too much on what we do/don't do, as that would inevitably give the spammers extra info on when and how to "hit" us.
That said, we can assure you there is stuff in place.
Some of it is quite drastic, in terms of the site's functionality, so we don't use it that often although we may have done yesterday and last night
And some of it is not so drastic but might not catch everything.
Our very lovely Tech team are also currently working on a solution that's midway between these two.
Apols for being slightly cryptic but hope you'll understand. We don't think it's a coincidence that these spambots attacked us shortly after several threads asking if the site was manned overnight...
Thanks Helen. Got you.
The spam was around for over 6 hours, from 9am to after 3pm Singapore time (GMT +8 at the moment), so the systems didn't kick in in an hour. All of us in the USA and Asia were moaning on for ages trying to boost real convos up Active and hide spam.
Spam doesn't actually harm you though, does it? If MNHQ are clearing it as fast as they can, then that's all there is to it.
I'm more bothered with abject trolley in sensitive topics, tbh. I think that's a bigger headache.
The links can harm your computer if you click on them possibly.
There back
It's all kicked off again.
Just reported about 10 threads, and advised people in the far-flung forums that are now being targetted not to respond.
I think pipparabbit's reported a load as well.
They're not there! See the upset they have caused me to lose my grasp on English.
Oh jolly good show MNHQ - the buggers are being deleted as quick as you like!
Many thanks again you for all your reports. We hope you'll understand that we're not going to reply to them. Please take it as read that we're really VERY grateful.
Again, please bear with us.
We are getting there.
Hope your Account Delete button does not get too much use tonight Olivia, though I suspect it might.

The spambots are back - just reported one in Active Convos (in Baby names)
Are we still not to report? (I should have asked before I reported - sorry!)

Don't worry, my guns are armed and ready to zap.
Spam started up again
More spam
Sorry, I forgot about the no reporting and have just reported loads.
Arghhh, sorry sorry sorry.
Ditto, sorry!
It appears they're back. Do we report or not?
Bloody hell its daft o'clock, I can't sleep so I come here for mild entertainment and low and behold the spambots have taken over again.
Your night time security seriously needs stepping up MNHQ
I reported a few with a post after saying its reported no need to report again or bump. Is it better to not report at all?
Or if you report should you say so, then MNHQ don't get multiple reports and its all tidy and efficient?
Oops I reported some too
I'm not sure Trucks. They asked us not to report for now and said they would tell us when we can report again. I think if your going to report it's probably better to report one thread with a message that there are lots of similar threads in chat etc.
I think the problem the other night was AIBU and Baby names were full of spam threads and several of us were reporting threads as fast as they appeared and it sort of turned into silly season. The MNHQ inbox must have been rammed.
At least it's not all sport this time
To be fair, if they could tell me where to watch series 1 of call the midwife for nothing I'd be happy - only started watching this series and the first one's about £25 on iTunes.
(Not helpful, I know......sorry.........I'll go back to sleep)
Oh dear, I've just reported about a dozen of the most recently appearing ones. I've only just discovered this particular spam-subject thread, so didn't know that MNHQ wanted no additional reports at present. Sorry sorry sorry. [penitent emoticon]
Style and Beauty has been spammed.
Every single thread there right now [that I can see] is spam.
Bumping this, important to know we shouldn't be reporting any more
Also only just read this, after I reported 2 threads about an hour ago. Sorry!
Perhaps make this a sticky for the time being?
MNHQ how about you move this thread to be a temporary sticky, at the top of active convos and highlight it in a different colour? That way people will definitely see it and take note not to report any new spam until you say so, and to not start any new threads on it.
Hello. Thanks all. We're on the new ones. <sigh>
Sorry I forgot and reported one too
for Helen
Slight hijack for CitrusyOne - Call the Midwife on DVD for £7 on Amazon. Have PM'd you with link, as I didn't think it would be tactful to put a link on this thread....

To be clear, do please continue to report usual-stylee spammers.
But if you spot the <insert swearword of choice> 'live-streaming spammers', it would be most helpful if you could post on this thread, rather than report. It's far too boring to explain why but we'd be ever so grateful...
They're back! Reported another live streaming spam on baby names then saw this thread.

Do we know who's doing this yet? I'm guessing it's not anyone who actually thinks we'd want what they're offering (otherwise they need to fire their marketing people).
I think can think of a couple of organisations who might be considered suspects...
A couple of new ones in Chat started by jekanfalop.
Yes I have just seen those Zombie.
It looks very much like the bombardment the TES forums have been getting for a good few weeks - although that was mainly at the weekend, localised particularly across a couple of their sub-forums to the point of putting those forums on a pretty much unusable footing... exact same "Watch totally obscure game you have bog all interest in" type stuff.
THanks
They use blogspot to host the link, so could Google not be encouraged to take them offline? Any mumsnetters work for Google?
Have you been congratulated for the error message yet? It is a lovely error message. For those who have not seen it:
---
Message from MNHQ: In a city, somewhere in the world, lives a bunch of computers called Spambots.
One day the Spambots thought that they would come and invade a pom bear loving web site with their poorly-formatted spammy exercise links. 'HA!' they thought, 'We're going to flood their site!'
But the mumsnetters didn't think that this was very nice, so they reported all of the spambots so that the nice people in the tower could crash the spambots to bits!
It took a while, but the spambots were removed. All of the mumsnetters drank [gin] to celebrate (or just for the sake of it) and lived happily ever after.
The End. hic!

Awesome delete message, MNHQ!
Spam appearing in Bloggers topic, posta around 11:33pm

Oh man oh man I need to watch The Avengers again!
NOTE TO ANY SPAMMERS WATCHING - this is not an invitation to send me links I have my own illegal download
Spammers again in "Bloggers" !
Just watched on Blu Ray, Kate.
::so perfectly in focus Jeremy and Mark sigh ::
RAAAAAAAAAAAA - in Bloggers so badly its hurting my eyes
Spambusters required again, I'm afraid.
[fed up face]
Lots of spam in bloggers now
Ouch my eyes are hurting (and finger busily reporting)
In baby names now too.
Bloody determined little bastards aren't they
Yup, starting to think they are going to be a permanent fixture. Will probably help me get to bed earlier though!
Wtf is going on they are taking over there are loads of them!
I am knackered from a run of night shifts. For two whole seconds (perhaps even three) I genuinely thought:
"Hmm, that's a really odd name suggestion"
<goes to bed>
The place has been totally taken over.
Bloggers and baby names getting hit so far...
How odd,why do they do this?
I just looked at baby names.
Wow.
Ooh, but they're mixing it up tonight with all the @@@@@@@@@'s and the ***********'s.
Am almost tempted to click on those links....
ThinkMNHQ said don't report just mention which forums getting hit on this thread...saves report post in box exploding.
Is tiresome. I come here after toddler bedtime (different time zone) and its all spam bollocks
poor tech
Sending virtual gin
Blimey they are determined creatures aren't they.

What would happen if I clicked?
Part of me wants to click. The part that has the urge to touch a wall with a wet paint sign.
I shouldn't click.
I MUST NOT CLICK.
I want to click!!!!
DON'T CLICK!
I NEED TO CLICK!!!!!!!!!!!
In AIBU now too
No don't click
Oh dear, they really are taking over tonight!
They are properly bumping their own threads tonight too.
My fingers are ITCHING!
You're just going to end up with a virus, go to bed and put the itchy fingers away!
Does MNHQ have overnight admin? Or do we have to put up with this till 9am tomorrow? I don't know the drill.
Also, whenever anyone clicks it probably just confirms that they have hit on a winning spot and it will probably get much worse.
It's like bursting a single spot and ending up with a face full of massive white heads.
I know. I won't do it.
Probably.
ARGH! HELP ME!
The link probably leads to spyware. Don't click. It isn't advertising.
schro.
Spots have to be squeezed.
You do not get more spots if you squeeze one.
I still won't click though.
Just breathe blue, you don't actually want to click it so don't.
Would it help if I told you to click it instead of telling you not to?
Echo I can't help squeezing spots either but you do always seem to end up with a 100 more for the privilege!
What I don't get is why they think they will achieve anything by spamming a UK site which is largely used by women with link to US sporting events. There were at least a UK footie matches thrown in for good measure the other day but nothing but US stuff today. What is the point? Nobody is interested or is advertising not their reason for doing this?
Why do spammers spam?!
Squeezing one spot does not lead to 100 more. Do it properly and the spot goes away. It's more disgusting to leave them all yellow and bursty! All spots should be squeezed! <<gavel>>
That's all. As you were!
What is properly?! I never seem to know when it's done.
I don't actually get yellow bursty ones, that's probably the problem, I'm trying to squeeze something that pretty much doesn't exist.
But anyhoos...
Why spammers spam according to google.
Safe, honest. I am not a spambot. And I STILL haven't clicked. Mostly because I cannot afford to kill my laptop!
I LOVE squeezing spots. And blackheads. Maybe I need to do that with my itchy fingers...
It's hit arts and crafts! I didn't even know there was an arts and crafts section!
1. Can you group ban ips?
2. Will project honeypot help?
3. Do you need to be authorised by an admin to start a thread?
Ohh blackheads really are fun! I don't get those either.
If it doesn't have a head, it's not squeezable. Those are the ones you make worse!
Yeah... That will be my problem then.
Oh Schro that's rubbish! Obviously you're lucky to have lovely, blackhead free skin, but I can spend HOURS de-blackheading my nose. I feel great afterwards!
Arts and crafts pictures now has one spam thread. FFS, lol, head desk, face palm etc
But I don't have lovely skin because I squeeze all the non spots! Gah!
Trucks It now has more than one...
It is ludicrous. I t may cause me to go and hang the washing out.
Aah I see. You must not squeeze the non spots! See, if it weren't for the spammers, this spot related conversation wouldn't have started and Saggy wouldn't have been able to instruct you on correct spot squeezing techniques!
Gotta love a silver lining no?
FYI if they're below the skin spots, there's probably pus underneath and if you leave it alone it'll get a head. Squeezing too early will force it down, spreading the infection and causing more spots. I THINK that's what I was told by my Dsis, who's a beautician. I may have made it up!
That is definitely useful information!
Silver lining and all that

Another one.
Just a thought - can you sticky this thread into the Active Convos list as well please?
I lIkE tHaT tHeY aRe TaKiNg ThE TiMe To TyPe LiKe ThIs. It'S aCtUaLlY qUiTe HaRd. NiCe ThAt ThEy TaKe PrIdE In ThEiR wOrk.
Surely they should be advertising something aimed more the the target audience. Like gin, chocolate and wine baby stuff?
re. spots - bluesuede, that's what I was told as well. If the pus breaks through its capsule into the surrounding tissues then --> more spots. Certainly takes a damn sight longer to heal, I know that. But you also have to get all the pus out for it to heal properly.
The problem is that the under the skin spots sometimes hurt so damn much and I KNOW there's pus under there- fighting the urge to squeeze too early can be hard!
Does mnhq have captchas? And why cant we have a limited number of threads started per person per day?
ignore if this has been answered 5000 times already. Freely admit i havent read thread.
Or something that stops a repeat thread from bein posted? That checks for exact wording?
also admit that i dont really want to read as thread seems to have descended in to pus porn
I think they might have the repeat thread thing- is that not the reason for all the @@@@@@@@@ and ***** malarkey? Different amounts of symbols with the same words?
OOOh clever. Makes sense Blue
<Disclaimer>
I probably made that up. I'm not very techy!
I make shit up all the time. it's like my "thing"

Oh this is where the sporners hang out these days. I thought I'd not seen a good sporners thread for a while.
do I want to know what sporn is?
<sigh> they're back then. Anyone for basketball?
Feckers at it again...but the sporn diversion was quite juicy ;)
Here we go again
bastards
Baby names and Bloggers now hit.
Not been on here for a few days and have just seen all of the spam. Sorry: I reported a few <hangs head in shame>
I won't do it again.
I don't envy you your job though. Think you definitely need some wine.....
Me too Blurry.
Sorry HQ!
How do they DO this? Set up multiple accounts etc?
Bastard bloody spammers
Sorry for reporting all the ones I saw, but this message wasn't visible until I'd done it. oops
Lots in Bloggers
Are they kust targetting a couple of topics? Seems a bit odd if they are, though maybe they have tracked which bits of mumsnet results in clicks. Maybe it's more about the database coding, perhaps theynare hitting from within, so bypassing registering as a user.
Is it worth disabling the Android app? Has that exposed access to the database?
Bloggers, Baby Names and Have You Seen This? are full of spam.
Spam is in "chat" too, but mainly on unanswered threads, rather than in active conversations.
"Book of the month" has been targeted by spambots now.
Hey, what's with all the zombie threads too- loads of old ones with weird messages at the end.
For example
Is this part of the spamtastic fun?
Blimey, my active feed is practically all spam and zombie threads with spam added at the end.
I know this isn't really the point but is there really a rugby team called Manly Sea Eagles?
Apparently so!
Safe link, it's an Australian team. Manly is a suburb of Sydney so I guess that makes sense!
oops. have just seen this after reporting a load too....sorry mnhq!
Maybe they have particularly butch seabirds there.
BlueSS that coconut one is interesting as it is using wording in the message thread. Maybe that was a real person.
I don't think they are even very smart Bots, since they keep hitting slow traffic boards! Of course, then they stay longer, but fewer people see them.
Oh dear me.
Is it too early for [gin]
They will be there a while anyway as MNHQ will still be sleeping off their gin excesses from last night...<casually insults MNHQ before they wake up and realise >.
But yeah...weird.....definitely NOT clicking any of those links..
still exploding over baby names and bloggers
Tech start as you mean to go on

This should boost the economy - all the extra sales of gin

If we all email press-uk @ google.com do you think Google will start to do something about Blogspot service violations? The spambots are using Blogspot, so Google has responsibility to shutdown the sites.
They seem to have branched out into the little known Style and Beauty Pictures.
Complain here it is one of the sites that the spammers are promoting. Mthey have an affiliate scheme, that is how the spammers are making money.
How do we know that link is ok nannynick?? The spammers might have taken over your username <paranoid>
You need to prove who you are. With some tests. Say the first word that comes to mind when you hear the following
Nice
Shiney's
Pom
Am I
Booble
Cubes of
Rivers of
If you get these you pass
Fizz
Alas no way of knowing but if a legit company they should control their affiliate marketers. Link is more for MumsnetHQ and GooglePress.
Mooncup or are we still on Fruitshoots?
They are in Book of the Month now. It must feel to the staff like a game of Whack-a-Mole.
I love playing whack a mole
Morning. And thanks all - we are on it!

New spammer in Bloggers...
krig in Bloggers
On it.
Confused.... Are we meant to report spam or post them (name and/or section) here when we spot them?
MNHQ - have just spotted a load of odd posts all over the shop. I have reported some, but now wondering whether I should have done...
Sorry, meant to say 2 dodgy links in each. Same format message.
They want us to post here the location of the SPAM.

Just saw one in AIBU.
FOUR live streaming posts in Baby Names.
Spam in Bloggers now from NN 'amerabh'
Thank you! The spam has now been cast into the fiery chasm from whence it came.
One in baby names, just spotted it.
Oh no they are back just seen one in my active feeds! Argh!! MNHQ gin in advance...
Just seen them in Other Subjects
<Other Subjects ? never knew that was there>
I've never known what 'other subjects' was for. Maybe we could corral the spammers into that part of MN?
BIWI - I just popped over - seems like a good place to leave the spammers
And they are back! Some in baby names and probably elsewhere too [sigh]
Got one in Other Stuff now
reported one in Other Stuff, then remembered about this thread - there's a couple in there atm
3 in other stuff last time I looked. I reported as well, because I forgot about this thread
Sorry MNHQ I just reported one in Baby Names as I forgot this thread too
Hullo all,
Thank you so much for your reports, I had forgotten about this thread too
Have zapped the spam <dusts off hands> please do shout if you spot any more.
Do you want us to carry on shouting on here about spam or should we just report as per?
Spam in bloggers at the moment.
they are back in bloggers
Now in Other Subjects.

Gets out ray gun
<sends back-up ammunition>
a new one in AIBU which is very brave of them really
I have reported the one in AIBU, in appropriate rhyme.
Oops I reported the one in AIBU too.
and
for whoever's on duty tonight.
There in baby names
They're in baby names advertising a "live event" streaming which has already finished. Ignorant twazzocks.
They're bbbbbaaaaacccckkkk!!!!
<sigh>
I was just coming on here to say that star girl. They are pretty incessant.
MNHQ are going to need a crate of gin after tonight
You need a "Break Glass in Case of Emergency" type delete button which regular posters get access to when there's a site invasion
All over? For tonight anyway...
for HQ,
Can't help thinking that HQ might need something more like this after tonight!
Thank you MNHQ.
You did good tonight.
darn. missed it
Well done HQ. I'm so glad they didn't bring the website down overnight!
check out the wtaf post where they reveal their intentions to bring down mn ... who are they?

Hello, hello - calling Tech and MN HQ - we need you!
apologies mnhq... i have been reporting threads and posts tonight... along with many others im sure. i didnt know about this thread.
they've posted all over tonight. here's some
for when you finish the clean up. i dont envy you... though i would have great satisfaction using the delete button
Ooops - forgot this was here and have reported some of the more idiotic stuff.
Sorry!
right. we need captchas
we also a need a maximum number of new posts per poster.
we also really need an ignore poster button.
and maybe you guys might also want to delegate the delete button to some of us international mumsneters who are still awake now.
<sigh>
Chats full of em

I think MNHQ need to decide whether we're 'open' at night or not.
If we're not 'open', they could suspend account creation overnight, limit the number of posts new posters make etc. This would not be great for anyone in desperate need of support who stumbles across MN in the dark hours and it wouldn't be great for international participation.
If we are 'open', they need to staff the place a bit overnight. I think it would be worth the investment.

more

That wouldn't have helped last night. I history checked a few if them and they'd already registered a few days ago. HQ did a good job last night, but it is a little disappointing when they keep telling us things are in place, then they all bugger off at 2 am and give the trolls free reign.
and
for mumsnet staff.
VerySmallSqueak
Thank you MNHQ.
You did good tonight.
Thank you. Appreciated.
Just seen some more in Chat. Poster - nathan2011
I reported them too FruOla
I wasn't sure whether to report the threads themselves, or put my report on this thread! Pesky little blighters, aren't they?
They're back again. Just spotted a thread on Active Convos in Other Subjects. OP's name is shipman8327.
They're baaaaaack. Other subjects again.
I wonder why they bother? I am certainly not over keen to watch some American football. Even if it is free.
