So, MNHQ, bedecked in LKBennett (and Boden for the plebs) are all out stuffing pizza and Bolly, half of the posters and hangers-on are there too: what mischief shall we get up to while they're away?

So we can DO. WHAT. WE. LIKE. while the Leaders party.

Hullygully Tue 02-Mar-10 19:57:47

Sarah Ferguson is here. How weird is that? I think they invited her to gently point out how silly her world mumnet idea was. She is wearing a black trouser suit with violet trim and has a very loud voice, but seems quite nice.

SoupDragonHadAPersonalInvite Tue 02-Mar-10 19:59:17

Does she bray?

ShowOfHands Tue 02-Mar-10 19:59:27

You do NOT want to know what I'm poking in your eye YMT. I suggest you bugger off you peeping Tom before somebody gets hurt...

Hullygully Tue 02-Mar-10 20:00:24

No, she doesn't bray, it's more one of those loud, confident voices. She can't help it, it's her birthright. Someone said her daughters were around, but i haven't seen them yet.

Hullygully Tue 02-Mar-10 20:01:40

Someone's banging on my door. I'll go out and have a bit of a mingle and pop back later.

Dont' worry, Hully, we won't tell ANYONE.

Hullygully Tue 02-Mar-10 20:07:27

I haven't managed to leave the loo yet because the blond one from East Enders is out there talking to Fiona Campbell. It just gets weirder. They are discussing highlights versus streaks.

Hullygully Tue 02-Mar-10 20:08:50

Molly! How can I recognise you?

SoupDragonHadAPersonalInvite Tue 02-Mar-10 20:10:34

mollyroger Tue 02-Mar-10 20:11:29

It's easy, I'm wearing a Boden frock

Hullygully Tue 02-Mar-10 20:11:45

I said I had an upset stomach. They have all been very sympathetic. One of the Wankers gave me some kaolin and morphine.

SoupDragonHadAPersonalInvite Tue 02-Mar-10 20:12:51

A boden frock she's had to use as loo roll bebause you didn't throw her a new roll.

laweaselmys Tue 02-Mar-10 20:13:09

I think I am enjoying this party more with Hully's commentary than if I was actually there ('cos I wouldn't recognise anybody anyway!)

MmeLindt Tue 02-Mar-10 20:13:24

Say hello to the Wankers from me please.

Is it all very flowery and manic prints?

mollyroger Tue 02-Mar-10 20:14:25

and I have a beard.

Hullygully Tue 02-Mar-10 20:14:35

It's a very odd mix because most people are quite soberly dressed, an awful lot of little black dresses, and then you get this mad bright Boden like one of the council's summer bedding arrangements! It's quite jolly.

Hullygully Tue 02-Mar-10 20:15:46

I am out of the loo finally. I have found a dark corner where I can see and not be seen (I am quite shy). The champagne is very good. It helps.

SoupDragonHadAPersonalInvite Tue 02-Mar-10 20:15:54

I'm guessing that the boden wearers are the comp winners.

Hullygully Tue 02-Mar-10 20:17:51

Yes, the Haiku victorious. They are all drinking a lot, I think they are a bit intimidated. Some of them are already a bit unsteady and at least one has been a bit discommoded.

mollyroger Tue 02-Mar-10 20:18:16
mollyroger Tue 02-Mar-10 20:19:32

there are an awful lot of wrap dresses....

Hullygully Tue 02-Mar-10 20:21:31

SoupDragonHadAPersonalInvite Tue 02-Mar-10 20:25:44

Hullygully Tue 02-Mar-10 20:25:44

HellBent Tue 02-Mar-10 20:27:53

That eye is weird! I thought NFI meant Not Fuckin Interested. I'm obviously a bit more sweary than you guys saying Not Flippin Invited blushgrin

Hullygully Tue 02-Mar-10 20:29:26

Ed Miliband is known to be a bit free with his embraces.

Rhubarb Tue 02-Mar-10 20:30:03

Is Gok doing his "Oh yes I really am gay!" line whilst looking up womens' skirts?

I didn't realise Boden was all flowery curtains prints, just as well I didn't win then, I wouldn't suit that AT ALL. I'd have to rip it and put safety pins in and bits of newspaper just to make it more edgy.

I would be gozzling the champers though and grabbing strange men to tell them what side their cock is lying on. It's a cool game, you look at a man's crotch and try to guess which side their cock is on. Then you tell them to see if you're right! Course sometimes I have to have a bit of a feel just to make absolutely sure they're not lying grin

I wonder why I didn't win?

CaitlinMeringue Tue 02-Mar-10 20:30:04

I had to check my handbag to make sure she hadn't fallen in

she would actually fit in a blender

I stayed ip until about 3am Reading the Mumsnet babies book to hunt for my own quotes

I am typing on my phone in jjj's attic

morningpaper Wed 03-Mar-10 08:34:07

Kathy lette had the best suit and handbag I've ever seen

I want to be her

I am still in love with justines husband

also I met cod!!!!!!!!!! Omg

blouseenthusiast Wed 03-Mar-10 08:37:09

Whole pages are your quotes, mp. I woke up very suddenly thsi morning remembering that I stroked GB's suit from behind and his security men looked at me funny...

blouseenthusiast Wed 03-Mar-10 08:37:49

I didn't meet cod. Is like mr snuffleupagas

morningpaper Wed 03-Mar-10 08:39:39

I moved a nice lady out of the way saying: "excuse me I'm trying to get to cod but there are all these prime ministers in the way!"

It was Sarah brown

<twat>

she ignored me fortunately

she probably just heard high pitched squeaking

.... and I was interviewed by Channel 4 so possibly will be on the news tonight!

<doubts it - wonders how they will edit what I said ...>

BitOfFun Wed 03-Mar-10 08:48:36

I hope you realize, morningpaper, that we got hold of all those leaked photographs from last night. You'll be in there somewhere, you know.

MmeLindt Wed 03-Mar-10 08:49:43

Great to hear you had a good time and that our PM survived the party. Lol at stroking his suit. Am sure that MI5 have a dossier on you this morning.

Justine and Carrie hold secret negotiations with GB on where to hide the cake so that they don't have to share it.

BuzzingNoise Wed 03-Mar-10 09:55:39

It was indeed a great evening. I was chuffed to meet MorningPaper. I might get up soon but the hotel bed is v comfy.

Hullygully Wed 03-Mar-10 09:58:39

<holds head> Where am I? Oh god, still stuck in the sodding cubicle.

animula Wed 03-Mar-10 10:01:22

More debriefing, more ... .

Kathy Lette's very tall, isn't she? Maybe she an d AK wre both there to create a sort of height equilibrium, or something.

Tim Dowling was there. Oh yes. I did not talk to/stroke him though.

policywonk Wed 03-Mar-10 10:04:43

And I came quite close to spilling my drink over Ed Miliband. He moved away from me v quickly.

BitOfFun Wed 03-Mar-10 10:05:21

Really? You let me down, Plonk...

Hassled Wed 03-Mar-10 10:06:42

Tim Dowling was there shock. Now I am jealous. Was he funny and charming? Was his wife there? I think I might love his wife more.

CaptainNancy Wed 03-Mar-10 10:10:04

Am v grump we didn't get any cake.

Mp- you aren't such a giant yourself!

policywonk Wed 03-Mar-10 10:11:37

I imagine he was funny and charming, but did not get close enough to find out for sure. Dunno whether his wife was there but he was surrounded by blondes.

policywonk Wed 03-Mar-10 10:12:22

Nancy, the DSs gobbled up your gruffalo biscuit this morning!

SpringHeeledJack Wed 03-Mar-10 10:32:07

I hope you all provided enough material for a column

blouseenthusiast Wed 03-Mar-10 11:31:58

No Kathy Lette also quite dinky. I wnated to stroke her handbag but couldn't get near enough. Ed Miliband looked about 12. In a good way. Which at least deterred me from stroking him

cheerfulvicky Wed 03-Mar-10 11:39:08

blouse, I initially read your post as "I urinated in her handbag" blush grin

There is Not Nearly Enough Gossip on this thread. Is there another one? <wonders if there is enough of lunchtime left to find it>

<racks brain>

Nope. We were all very well behaved. shock Yes, it's true. Have we led the MN into disrepute do you think? <frets>

However - we were all ushered away from the party to go for our pizza, so we don't know what went on after we left ...

And MorningPaper stayed behind ...

And so did Policywonk ...

And Onebatmother ...

And Leningrad ...

<tries to drop as many others in it as possible>

HelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Wed 03-Mar-10 13:00:17

Aw, don't grump about the cake! I didn't get any either...

<not bitter - much>

policywonk Wed 03-Mar-10 13:54:25

I didn't stay - went for a quick drink with Len and Nancy (who are both bloody lovely) and then had to get home to relieve ex-p of babysitting duties.

OBM, MP and Cod did stay behind and I believe went out for dinner with MNHQ. So that's probably where the gossip is wink

LeninGrad Wed 03-Mar-10 14:09:11

10.15pm train home for me, sober as a judge. Had a great time, lots of people were super tall. Just lovely to meet and chat in person really.

The speeches were warm and funny and there wasn't enough time to talk to everyone as much as I wanted to. It was super hot and my bfing hormones got the better of me and I had to move to the edge. Was full to bursting by the time I got home but luckily DS2 was up.

There, is that the kind of low-down you wanted? smile

Many thanks to Anguis for taking me along and to MNHQ for their hospitality.

morningpaper Wed 03-Mar-10 14:15:15

back home in dulltown

the haikuers went off for pizza and then some rumour spread that the chef had killed someone with a knife so that part of town was closed (I realise I was drunker than I recall) so I sat with Cod and CamillafromDyson and a few others and we finished cod's secret bottle of wine and said OH MY GOD WE LOVE JAMES DYSON SO MUCH and Camilla giggled a lot and then argued about retractable cord flexes <hazy> then ate some cake, which was disturbingly red, then I think RachelMumsnet asked me if I was a raving lesbian because I kept prodding people's breasts and then Carrie took her shoes off and said she couldn't wear them any more and people stole some sweets from the Google office and then I got in a taxi and had some chips and Justine's husband said I hadn't said anything funny since August 2005 and then a waitor told me and onebat to GO HOME NOW

then I stayed up reading the Babies book and looking for my own quotes (which are all mainly about my shit vagina hmm)

OH MY GOD though Annabel Karmel is so small

morningpaper Wed 03-Mar-10 14:16:41

> 10.15pm train home for me, sober as a judge. Had a great time, lots of people were super tall.

One part of that is not true

Lenin basically stood around with a massive grin on her face saying "WOW ISN'T IT GREAT TO BE OUT OF THE HOUSE!" while we all nodded in agreement

policywonk Wed 03-Mar-10 14:28:26

<tuts loudly at Justine's husband>

Funniest sight of the night for me was Zepherine being buttonholed by Johnnie Boden. She looked completely bemused.

Closely followed by Cod having an in-depth chin-wag with Gordon Brown (I believe she offered him some policy advice) (this is not a joke)

LeninGrad Wed 03-Mar-10 14:33:59

I was particularly grinny about having a 12-hour pass it is true.

mp had to fill me in on who everyone was, clueless didn't come close.

SoupDragon Wed 03-Mar-10 14:36:38

"Cod having an in-depth chin-wag with Gordon Brown (I believe she offered him some policy advice)"

Snort! Was it about overfishing in the North Atlantic?

morningpaper Wed 03-Mar-10 14:38:23

I wish you could have seen how small Annabel Karmel is

Carrie was talking to her at one point and Carrie is TEENY but she looked like Gulliver

SoupDragon Wed 03-Mar-10 14:39:35

[still sulking]

Especially as a friend said to me today "Any time you want a babysitter, just ask! I'd be happy to do it!". I bet she's on this thread and knows who I am [hard stare]

morningpaper Wed 03-Mar-10 14:41:38

<pats Soupy's tail>

My dress was £8 from Asda

I think I basically just said that to everyone

I'm so gutted that I missed Tim Dowling

policywonk Wed 03-Mar-10 14:43:33

He was lurking on the fringes.

I don't know what Cod said to Gordy, she was being Mysterious.

morningpaper Wed 03-Mar-10 14:46:32

<sulk>

Why didn't you grab me and say OH MY GOD TIM DOWLING and I could have said "Hello Tim Dowling I love you! My dress was £8 from Asda."

policywonk Wed 03-Mar-10 14:47:50

I will deffo do that next time. Then we can time him to see how quickly he can get out of the door.

morningpaper Wed 03-Mar-10 14:51:38

Yes Kathy Lette broke into a run when I attempted to say I LOVE YOUR SUIT AND HANDBAG MY DRESS WAS £8 FROM ASDA

morningpaper Wed 03-Mar-10 14:54:29

Anguis told me that Johnny Boden tapped her on the shoulder and said "I love your dress"

the charmer

And Policy spent an hour talking to a man she thought was Johnny Boden but was actually a Mumsnetter's husband

policywonk Wed 03-Mar-10 14:56:17

eh?

Oh, bumper's husband. They were both v v nice.

There were hardly any men there who weren't intimidatingly famous, or part of someone's security detail.

TheDevilWearsPrimark Wed 03-Mar-10 14:56:50

Tom Dowling was there! wows

And Cod? Why? because she's infamous?

She doesn't add much the mn community these days.....

morningpaper Wed 03-Mar-10 15:03:04

it was someone else's husband

maybe it was

or maybe it wasn't

it's harder to remember than I anticipated

LilyBolero Wed 03-Mar-10 15:07:05

Was Johnny Boden seriously there?

CaptainNancy Wed 03-Mar-10 15:09:49

Yes- bumper and dh were v lovely weren't they?

Is camilladyson F?
Who is blousenthusiast?

TheDevilWearsPrimark Wed 03-Mar-10 15:10:07

Did Gordon have a sausage roll and glass of cava champagne, or did he just stand at his lectern for a bit?

Hello, glad to see you left the place standing while we were gone grin

Had a lovely time, but very surreal. Loved all the mumsnetters I met. DH has a new found respect for mumsnet, I think helped by all the free Moet he quaffed (he was drinking my share too). Shame we had to get off early (well, 11.30 anyway!) but I was knackered, and my feet we about to turn on my for the abused given to them by my incredibly high shoes. (Honestly, when I took them off I was no bigger than Morningpaper, who I could just put in my pocket grin).

MNHQ were lovely, big thanks to CatherineMumsnet for being so attentive and easygoing.

I got to shake GB's hand <faints> but didn't get to talk as the fishy one was monopolising him grin

I'm just thankful I couldn't drink else I would have been mainlining champagne and making a massive tit of myself.

I too sat for a good half hour back at my hotel room trying to find my name in the Mumsnet book. No gossip from me though, I am generally unobservant to these things, mostly focusing on trying not to fall over my feet!

DH did pee next to Jonnie B, but said he tried to ask him where the lift was mid pee, which is apparently not The Done Thing (am endlessly fascinated by male toilet etiquette, imagine having to stand next to someone while holding your fanjo).

morningpaper Wed 03-Mar-10 15:38:27

yes Gordon mingled, I only saw him briefly though because everyone is taller than me

he was mostly hogging cod

Johnny Boden was there but I didn't see him because of the tall people

I mainly hung at the back eating biscuits and occasionally blundering into groups of people saying HELLO ISN'T ANNABEL KARMEL THE SMALLEST THING IN THE WORLD?

morningpaper Wed 03-Mar-10 15:39:37

OMG I wish I had stood next to Johnny B mid pee

policywonk Wed 03-Mar-10 15:44:38

LOL at Bumper's DH at the urinal with Johnny B

Apparently Attlee and Churchill were urinating side-by-side in the Commons toilets once and Churchill moved away, saying 'Every time you see something big, you want to nationalise it'

morningpaper Wed 03-Mar-10 15:51:38

snort

squeaver Wed 03-Mar-10 15:51:45

That's more like it!!

WHERE is the fish with her GB gossip?? Probably over at no. 10 eating cakes with Sarah.

Spoof Wed 03-Mar-10 15:56:08

morningpaper Wed 03-Mar-10 15:58:14

oh he wants her to be his new legal tsar or something

meh

<sigh> I feel like Cinderella back in the cellar

policywonk Wed 03-Mar-10 16:00:34

Apparently he said 'How will I be able to contact you', and she said 'Think FISH, Gordon'

Spoof Wed 03-Mar-10 16:05:25

funny, I don't picture you with mop in hand, MP.

Do you think "Think FISH" will end up in the election campaign now then?wink

SuSylvester Wed 03-Mar-10 16:18:25

GOD IT WAS FAB

so will post later

we did talke retractabel flexes.

MmeLindt Wed 03-Mar-10 16:21:56

I did not know that there was urinal etiquette. Bumper, please get your DH on here to educate us.

policywonk Wed 03-Mar-10 16:23:17

I'm sure he's heard worse

Anguis Wed 03-Mar-10 16:23:43

Rubyrubyruby Wed 03-Mar-10 16:27:23

I am feeling a bit delicate today
I whispered in GB's ear.
Had a fab time - thanks MNHQ

....... and apologies if I was in any way embarassing blush <<tries to remember>>

morningpaper Wed 03-Mar-10 16:27:36

Perhaps we need a new bumper sticker, with a stainless steel fish with MUMSNET inside

It was loevly to meet you, you have fantastic legs, you would look great in stockings

I now have an uncomfortable vision of GB clasping Cod to his chest and proclaiming "Only YOU Can Save Me Now!!"

"Tell them, tell them, I'm nice really!"

morningpaper Wed 03-Mar-10 16:29:00

Justine's mum was lovely too

she is exactly like the Queen

Buda Wed 03-Mar-10 16:30:15

Sounds fab. Sigh. I didn't know what a haiku was so have been practising my haka for weeks......

It would have been nice to see all the slebs and politicians. But it would have been great to see cod!!!!!!!!! Is she real then? A real person like?

Bet she was a bit green around the gills this morning! (See what I did there? Did ya?)

MP - lol at you staying up reading the book looking for your quotes. That's the sort of think I do. And then wonder why I am SO shattered next day.

policywonk Wed 03-Mar-10 16:31:34

Ooh ruby, what did you say?

Original Tech was there. He got the biggest cheer of the night (from us rowdies anyway - well it was between Tech and Justine's mention of MrsBaldwin's OAA campaign)

Boco Wed 03-Mar-10 16:32:19

Was Aitch there?

squeaver Wed 03-Mar-10 16:33:14

I really want to know about the speeches.

Why didn't they do a webcast? Call themselves a technology-based business...??

Rubyrubyruby Wed 03-Mar-10 16:34:32

Justine said "I'd really like to thank squeaver .........."

I'd like to report that Cod was deeply unattractive, but sadly that would be impossible.

<sighs>

I was also very taken by how tall some of the MNetters were.

policywonk Wed 03-Mar-10 16:35:25

Boco - no. I was all excited about meeting her but she wasn't there.

Cod is real, yes, and is very lovely. But about 10 years younger than I had imagined her.

Cod's mate Finbar also gorgeous.

<sighs even more>

.... and you'll have to watch the news tonight on Channel 4 to see if my interview is shown!!

squeaver Wed 03-Mar-10 16:37:33

Oh I KNEW she'd say that... blush

policywonk Wed 03-Mar-10 16:39:03

Ah was Finbar the model-like glam blonde?

Yes, watch C4 News tonight ladies. OBM was interviewed as well. As she said to me afterwards, 'They asked me about social media. I actually know something about that.'

bibbitybobbityhat Wed 03-Mar-10 16:39:57

Are we allowed to know who blouse enthusiast is? Or is it a state secret?

Anguis Wed 03-Mar-10 16:52:12

Yes v high proporton of tall mners. Perhaps that is why GB looked short. Too many Amazonians.

Tim Dowling, for example, looks gorgeous and wears a snappy jacket.

morningpaper Wed 03-Mar-10 17:01:13

god I'm annoyed that I didn't meet Tim Dowling

that would have made my whole year

I don't know why they didn't do webcasts! So annoying!!!!

gordon's speech was: MUMSNET IS A GREAT BRITISH INSTITUTION, even better than the NHS and cups of tea

Sarah said: Mumsnet is lovely and you are all fantastic - yo, go the sistas

Justine said: I LOVE my mum and I'm NOT shagging my husband tonight! which I thought was rude in front of the world's press and everything (I told him later where to come if necessary)

Carrie said: I LOVE MY HUSBAND AND MY BABIES SO MUCH

I think that was about it

Rubyrubyruby Wed 03-Mar-10 17:11:01

morningpaper told me that I need to sign-up for 'the weekly MN round-up' hmm

Rubyrubyruby Wed 03-Mar-10 17:14:28

mp - it is done smile

Buda Wed 03-Mar-10 17:15:57

Justine didn't really say she wasn't shagging her husband???? shock

Rubyrubyruby Wed 03-Mar-10 17:19:26

Yup - she did!

Buda Wed 03-Mar-10 17:23:10

Justine!!!!!!!!!!! In front of your MUM!!!

MmeLindt Wed 03-Mar-10 17:34:55

Tut tut.

I would be more concerned that she said that in front of the PM and the national press than her mum.

Although I guess that all of them are aware that she does sometimes shag her DH.

Did she give a reason for him not getting any last night?

Finbar Wed 03-Mar-10 17:39:36

Policywonk -sadly I was not the model-like glam blonde...but thanks anyway!
You were the MN with the best red lipstick that stayed on all evening weren't you? fab - you should grab yourself and advertising contract immediately!

morningpaper Wed 03-Mar-10 17:44:20

that was onebat with the lippie

the wonker had a rose in her hair <glam birdie>

Finbar Wed 03-Mar-10 17:47:06

Oh ta morningpaper - am sad you didn't tell me about your dress! Fab shoes BTW
Cod also told GB that she would be at school at 8am the next day educating the masses to. Not sure if he was impressed or deeply worried

SuSylvester Wed 03-Mar-10 17:48:12

MP is teeny tiny in rl
and Kathy lette gives god party imo
rubyrubyryby and lgat were the glamour pusses in grey

BEARING in mind most MN meet ups seem to be smocks and glasses, shock grinit was a pretty stylish do.

SuSylvester Wed 03-Mar-10 17:49:11

oh LORD

<memroies come flooding back>

the canapes were most odd
they were in bamboo cones.
it was not a glam look when you are STARVING to down a canape in a cone by necking it.

SuSylvester Wed 03-Mar-10 17:50:04

i did lol when good ol choosy came up to me and said "is that a purple ruffle dress"
adn i recgonised onebat after extensisve shoe discussion on twitter

SuSylvester Wed 03-Mar-10 17:50:44

justine was in a very small dress that barely covered her toned slim body

bitch

WilfSell Wed 03-Mar-10 17:53:36

Brilliant, this is what we want. And the pictures. Su, do tell us what policy advice you gave gordon grin. Was it of the 'lock em up and throw away key' variety?

And onebat hasn't been here for AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGES so I officially lick her cheek to order a return for the low down.

SuSylvester Wed 03-Mar-10 17:55:50

i cannot possibly reveeal my secret policy( but it is real and is piss easy to implement at no cost to anyone!)

tbh i dont think i pitched it well... what with " think fish " and all. blush
shit i CANNOT BELIVE THAT
at least i ddint try and say " auchtermauchty" in a Good fife accent.

SpawnChorus Wed 03-Mar-10 17:59:06

LOLOL at "think FISH". Isn't that a wee bit unnecessarily cryptic?

Could you not have just given him your phone number? I'm concerned that our PM is going to be wasting hours trying to contact you with nothing but "think FISH" to go on. He'll be hounding MI5 for ANSWERS...NOW! to your riddle.

Or does it work like Mork calling Orson?

<<thinks fish>>

<<tummy rumbles>>

Boco Wed 03-Mar-10 17:59:22

Did you say 'and that's how the fish sees it' with a hand sign of a fish? Did you go in motivational sports gear?

Finbar it was lovely to meet you, you kept saying I'M JUST A LURKER, HONESTLY but no one believed you

Justine's dress was SHORT. Her legs were longer than my whole body. If she had dropped something on the floor it would have been terrible.

SpawnChorus Wed 03-Mar-10 18:05:31

morningpaper Wed 03-Mar-10 18:14:50

I thought I was quite sober

You are right about the cone-food. The birdie from Bloomsbury wasn't sure whether it was edible or not.

"Sushi?"

Early in the evening Olivia said: "Have you seen the fish?" and I said "Christ I know, they keep offering me plates of it every five seconds." And she said "No, Cod you bloody fool!"

Buda Wed 03-Mar-10 18:14:50

how are you cod again????

MamaGisNFI Wed 03-Mar-10 18:15:39

Cod - you appear to have lost your invisibility cloak!

DaftApeth Wed 03-Mar-10 18:19:01

morningpaper Wed 03-Mar-10 18:25:00

we had a RAGING argument over whether a lighter vacuum or a self-coilling flex was the better option

I remember that

also I remember me and Cod saying something like "That James can tie me up with a flex any time he likes fnaaarrrrrrrr"

hmm

DaftApeth Wed 03-Mar-10 18:30:27

Self-coiling flex, I say.

But then I rarely have to use my Dyson (the cleaner does, so she may beg to differgrin)

I'm happy to have another gift from them to try though wink

ahundredtimes Wed 03-Mar-10 18:31:15

Oh oh oh am excited.

Please to tell re atmosphere. We were worried about the whole meeting room ambience they had going down with the twitter pics

Can I just tell you all how THRILLED and HAPPY I am that Cod met the PM and told him what to do, and he said 'how can I get in touch with you?' He's so polite. Were you giving style advice? Easy to implement, PURPLE SOCKS.

I love this whole episode. I feel like I might have dreamt it, or willed it into happening.

And Finbar too! I always think of Finbar as

'Adn my RL mate Finbra agreed in gym chnging room was odd'

MamaGisNFI Wed 03-Mar-10 18:32:23

God 100x you are MASSIVELY nicer than me

<ashamed>

ApplesinmyPocket Wed 03-Mar-10 18:33:52

Oh no. Don't tell me we were not supposed to eat the bamboo cones?

I met Johnny. And he asked me where my Boden shoes were, to go with my Boden dress. I should have said 'Johnny, they did not arrive in time, but I know you will send me another pair.'

Yes, I am. I am VERY NICE. This is true

but also

I do quite love this MN party and the PM and all the folk in the leisure centre

c'mon, MG, it's grand.

cyb Wed 03-Mar-10 18:35:17

I'm with mamaG I'm trying to enjoy vicariously and actually I'm pig sick

moodlum Wed 03-Mar-10 18:36:08

I don't know which is more exciting - that gordo was at the party, or that cod is cod again.

really gord was at the party?

<faints>

MamaGisNFI Wed 03-Mar-10 18:36:36

I just think Ishould have been invited <sniff>

cyb Wed 03-Mar-10 18:37:34

I didn;t expect to be invited, I'm just always jealous if anyone has a better time than me ANYWHERE

MamaGisNFI Wed 03-Mar-10 18:38:16

lol

I have ideas above my station, I always had an inflated idea of my own importance

morningpaper Wed 03-Mar-10 18:40:24

The ambience was more Ikea Cafe than leisure centre

I kept expecting a platter of meatballs to arrive before I zipped around the Marketplace

It was nicer when it got dark as the mood lighting was incredibly expensive impressive

policywonk Wed 03-Mar-10 18:40:34

<whispers> It setting was a bit office Christmas party. I know it's a tremendously, um, groovy company (is that the correct terminology?) but in the end, it's still a party under strip lighting. Which anyone over the age of 20 is going to feel a bit bitter about.

MamaGisNFI Wed 03-Mar-10 18:41:46

cunting haiku, here
obviously very jealous
just wanted to ponce

Boco Wed 03-Mar-10 18:43:43

Aww MamaG I'm with you on the eaten up with JEALOUSY and ideas above station.

Spawnchorus I have never been absent! I am here, just not that interesting probably.

MamaGisNFI Wed 03-Mar-10 18:44:25

LeninGrad Wed 03-Mar-10 18:45:34

I was too until I became a hanger on.

SoupDragon Wed 03-Mar-10 18:45:49

I'm actually a little relieved I didn't go now as I would have been unable to talk intelligently to anyone and would have spent the whole tim hiding in a dark corner.

JustineMumsnet (MNHQ) Wed 03-Mar-10 18:46:06

Right we're back, 17 and a half bacon sarnies later. We will put the video of speeches up soonest (Google chaps are struggling with the technology apparently grin) and we will have some pics soon enough, but I need to do some censoring first...

Anguis Wed 03-Mar-10 18:49:52

Yes, Ikea canteen was pretty much the location. Brilliant party though. So nice to meet so many of you. Pizza Express was good also.

BitOfFun Wed 03-Mar-10 18:50:55

Justine, we've ALL seen themwink

Anguis Wed 03-Mar-10 18:52:05

x-post. Great party Justine. Thanks.

DaftApeth Wed 03-Mar-10 18:55:57

Are you going to try to make your dress look longer to stop us all turning green with envy at your long legs? grin

Or did you drop something and bend down to pick it up when the cameras were around?

Hassled Wed 03-Mar-10 18:56:03

I haven't got over the presence of Tim Dowling. If they'd said Tim Dowling would be there, I would have spent more than 15 seconds working on my haikus. I was robbed.

But I'm also glad you all had such a well deserved good time. And freaked out by seeing "Cod" written clear as day - I want to keep saying "shhh".

ahundredtimes Wed 03-Mar-10 18:56:36

Sometimes it's

'my RL mate Finbra <gasp> agred was odd'

I gasp every time Finbar, every time. grin

Yes please to pics. No to censoring (someone should have censored Carrie's breast shot in Telegraph though) and yes to strip lighting a misfortune, but who cares, everything sounds swell. I'm loving it.

largeginandtonic Wed 03-Mar-10 18:57:00

Am reading through the thread now.

It was a fantastic evening grin

ApplesinmyPocket Wed 03-Mar-10 18:59:41

Justine, please be sure to censor out my double-chin as I forgot to give it the obligatory 50-upward-slaps-with-the-back-of the-hand before the party (a little tip my mother taught me.)

Spoof Wed 03-Mar-10 19:01:23

Boco - how come you didn't go? Didn't you do the mn xmas cards and something for the book(s)?

Cod, it's good to 'see' you.

ahundredtimes Wed 03-Mar-10 19:06:11

Yes, why didn't Boco go? She's our illustrator in residence

The only reason I don't want Cod to change her name is because I showed off to BALD that I could do a great Cod impression, and I promised her I would, and she wouldn't know, and I can't if she stops changing names

NFI Wed 03-Mar-10 19:06:16

So how many MNers actually went, in the end, as haiku winners and plus ones and contributors and, er, fish? And did they neck all the booze? wink

policywonk Wed 03-Mar-10 19:08:14

Probably about 20? 25? Not counting journos etc who are also MNers (eg Janice Turner)

Natasha Walter was there; OBM and I got excited and then forgot to talk to her.

Hadley Freeman or Merope Mills was there (not sure which but was definitely one of them)

lonatix Wed 03-Mar-10 19:09:01

I think mumsnet are extremely generous to host a party and invite a large number who had to go off and start their own forum as MN wasn't good enough How forgiving wink

Eh?

Nothing to do with moldies.

Pofacedagain Wed 03-Mar-10 19:16:58

I quite liderally did not move from the spot all night. I stood in one place and spoke to whoever was in front of me. It is my usual technique at parties and it has made me what I am today. Friendless.

NeedsWillWhenBarrattBuilds Wed 03-Mar-10 19:19:17

Ok several is an exaggeration, but there was more than one.

And do you know what the world didn't stop turning on it axis and Johnny B didn't turn into a cross dresser.

policywonk Wed 03-Mar-10 19:23:27

It didn't say all white people are lazy It gave unemployed locals in areas where there is quite a large immigrant workforce the opportunity to do these unskilled jobs and experience the hours and effort required to earn a wage rather than claim benefits. It was a shocker and no mistake.A lot of them couldn't be arsed but the worst thing was the attitude like they were too good for it and the complete inability to put themselves out of their routine and work!Agree re circular argument though I am leaving it too as we have almost got to the bit where DP cries before she gets her venom up again to attack someone else.

policywonk Wed 03-Mar-10 19:34:43

Argh shit we should be watching C4 News

noddyholder Wed 03-Mar-10 19:35:06

largeginandtonic Wed 03-Mar-10 19:37:55

I had to stop Carrie and ask her who the teeny tiny blonde in tassled white boots (and skirt) was. Anannabel Karmel!!

MP she really was so tiny. It was the first thing i said to my friend when i got back. You are quite teeny yourself mind.

Gordon was charming. I was chatting to the Bloomsbury girls when he came over and one of them said a little too loudly 'This woman has 7 children' you MUST talk to her. The ground could not swallow me up fast enough. He was lovely though. Very sweet and interested in what i was saying. Lord knows why.

Had probabably quaffed quite a bit of Moet by then blush

Oh and Tim Dowling grin I accosted him (totally innocent) and chatted like a LOON for about 10 minutes. I hope he does not base the entire MN population on me blush grin

Anguis was super lovely smile

Bumper and her DH waere so nice and Bumper looked not a bit green. Positively glowing in fact.

Lenin was so very,vey lovely.

Cod was super glam (obv) GeralidineMN wasked me to give her the tap on the side of the nose when she arrived. I forgot sorry Gerry.

Justine was a nervous as if it had been her wedding day. I calmed her down hmm Told her she looked fabulous (tiny dress, impossibly long lean legs envy) and that the party was going well and GB would be happy to be here.

She still looked jittery as she left grin

BUT it WAS amazing. Thank you thank you.

I am paying for it now though. Had to get from London to Surrey to pick up DD who most definitely did not want to come home. Fortunately he is a v quiet drunk, unlike me, and it makes a change from him to be the hungover one so I'm letting him get away with it.

He has also asked me to send him a link to this thread so he can read what you say about him the post game analysis.

And Justine, if you are reading, I know I said I thought my haiku was wanky after you read it out, I didn't mean it, I was just too embarrassed to say that actually Mumsnet means an awful lot to me and last night was great validation that we are doing Good Things and not just idling our time away gossiping <wipes tear away> though obviously there is a lot of idle gossip going on too grin

hot hot hot

HelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Wed 03-Mar-10 20:24:31

Hello. Thought you might like to look at this pic, too.

Shiny blue dress person was Kathy Lette, I think, EggyAllenPoe...

EggyAllenPoe Wed 03-Mar-10 20:27:13

i believe upon furher viewing that it is a two piece suit - kathy lette is v. witty in her books, and no doubt needs clothes that match her sparkle...

DH liked the snapper woman and her camera, he said he'd just recently book marked her website.

God, I can't remember who anyone was, RL names or posting names, I wish I'd taken notes!

Who was the gorgeous tall woman in the grey skirt, black long sleeved polo neck who looked a little bit like Claudia Winkleman? She was so effortlessly glam looking.

eitbomh Wed 03-Mar-10 20:30:58

Harriet Harman was pissed off that she didn't win the haiku competition

Who is that is the geometric wrap dress in Helen's picture? She looks v glam (and possibly pregnant or is that just the angle and now I need to namechange again)

Well, that's my media career over before it even started.

And I'm not even in any of the photos!

I was there, honestly.

HelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Wed 03-Mar-10 20:36:30

BIWI - we have pics of you - oh yes we do!

LeninGrad Wed 03-Mar-10 20:38:42

eitbomh Wed 03-Mar-10 20:41:43

(whispering) and is she pregnant, Helen?

blouseenthusiast Wed 03-Mar-10 20:42:06

bibbitybobbityhat Wed 03-Mar-10 21:05:26

I find this to be an odd thread.

All the party invitees running around excitedly flapping and loving each other.

One v disgruntled non-invitee grin.

A handful of lurkers/stragglers and hangers on (like me) showing an interest.

Some moldies.

And moldies in disguise.

Yet, on the whole, the party seems to have passed the rest of Mumsnet by. Is there another thread going on somewhere?

Pofacedagain Wed 03-Mar-10 21:06:59

No. am disappointed in the lack of gossip tbh.

CaptainNancy Wed 03-Mar-10 21:12:30

I kept expecting cod to dish out S&B bon mots...

"Oh dear CN, you're not wearing Vitalumiere are you?" <<shakes head>> "And those tights with that dress?" <<sigh>>

Len- you made me laugh out loud with the balsawood thing! The canapes were a little intimidating, weren't they?

animula Wed 03-Mar-10 21:13:37

[animula pops out from behind the hostas]

I'm lurking - and enjoying it. I think I'm slowly building up a picture of the night.

Haven't posted because had nothing v. big to ask after the comment earlier as to whether everyone was as tall as they seemed. Answer seemed to be that they were.

The pix are so great, though. I thought they reminded me a little bit of a school disco. And then I realised it was because there were so many women there (ex-girl's school, here).

and then I thought - "How cool is that!"

LeninGrad Wed 03-Mar-10 21:17:12

Like totally Cap'n and the waiters kept interrupting my never-ending babble, much to the relief of anyone trapped with me I'm sure.

They should have left them on the side so we could have poked and prodded them and surreptitiously nibbled on the end to check. Would have been easier to put any back we didn't like too a la kids at a party. And we'd have been forced to move of course.

SpringHeeledJack Wed 03-Mar-10 21:19:05

Oh, come on, where else can they do it?

and admit it, we'd be a teeeeeeny bit smug if we'd been, now, wouldn't we?

sophable Wed 03-Mar-10 21:47:14

and I was only disinvited cause i called attention to myself by wondering if it was exclusive or a free for all!!! otherwise i could have just rocked up! (i couldn't actually as I was at the BALLET, yes, royal opera house, watching fabulousness!@)

still fucking traumatic tbh

onebatmother Wed 03-Mar-10 21:49:28

oh NO sophable!

sophable Wed 03-Mar-10 21:51:16

honestly don't feel sorry for me....but it was quite a shocker! so near and yet so fucking far!!!

bibbitybobbityhat Wed 03-Mar-10 21:52:54

Just to clarify:

I wish more people were interested. Am not bothered by smuggery, not one little jot. I love a bit of smuggery myself!

LynetteScavo Wed 03-Mar-10 21:54:29

Oh, Sophable...can you imagine if that happened in RL..there would be a huge thread about it.

The MN party is not RL....and I dont' care that I wasn't invited.

Really.

Not at all.

And Justine isn't invited to my party, so there.

NeedsWillWhenBarrattBuilds Wed 03-Mar-10 21:54:41

That is disgraceful. angry angry angryangry

animula Wed 03-Mar-10 21:56:35

bibbitybobbityhat - I knew that was where you were coming from. I wish people were a bit more interested too. I think it's so great that one of the major internet/social media things is this (female majority) site. It's a lovely thing, surely? And I'm so pleased they're celebrating 10 years. And I like looking at the pix and trying to work out who's who.

ahundredtimes - straggler? Sounds good. What do you think a straggler outfit looks like, then?

sophable Wed 03-Mar-10 21:57:00

it did happen in real life! it was a real life invite and then a real life disinvite!!!

i need to go and start a thread about the total impossibility of sorting a luke skywalker, wait for it, return of the jedi era (black nehru collar, knee high shiny mummy shiny boots, cloak) costume.

i'm at my wits end.

Spoof Wed 03-Mar-10 21:57:02

And what did they send you by way of an apology, sophable?

animula Wed 03-Mar-10 21:58:31

sophable - can't you insist that it be in the early phase and send him/her in a (borrowed) karate outfit?

pointydog Wed 03-Mar-10 21:59:01

lol @ soph's disinvite. I love stories like that.

sophable Wed 03-Mar-10 22:00:02

just a sort of embarrassed, ever so sorry but we have to disinvite you email!

i didn't realise that you'd all be so indignant on my behalf it's really touching!

the only bit that bothers me a tiny bit, is that i'm on some kind of radar hence initial invite...but then someone must have run it past justine and she must have said 'god no not her' and i thought we got on well!

that's the only bit that bothers me a tiny bit, that rather than just swallowing the extra number (one more person) they really needed to disinvite me.

i am smiling as i type not crying, you must believe me!

sophable Wed 03-Mar-10 22:01:22

animula, you don't know my son. clearly.

early era is JUST NOT AT ALL INTERESTING AT ALL.

I've tried arguing that starwars is not strictly a book and he points to exhibit a: his starwars visual encyclopaedia (who's bloody idea was that?)

Ledodgy Wed 03-Mar-10 22:01:48

Sophable the fact is it was rude plain and simple. It was also rude that others who had contributed to MN and their publications/cards such as Boco weren't invited. That I can't understand.

It all smacks to me of hypocrisy tbh.

A few mumsnetters buggered off to a Birthday party leaving the rest of the rif raff behind. Those who weren't on the Birthday table are torn between being fascinated by what went on and being disgruntled at not being invited. I can't think what that reminds me of...

grin

onebatmother Wed 03-Mar-10 22:02:53

I wonder if it was because there was a bit of grumbling about 'favourite mumsnetters' being invited at one stage Soph, and so was thought impolitic?

Pofacedagain Wed 03-Mar-10 22:04:41

I don't want to appear ungrateful in any way but I do feel there should have been more Mnetters there. There was much talk about how wonderful MN was but felt a bit odd when so few actually there. And poorly handled with regards to soph.

ahundredtimes Wed 03-Mar-10 22:05:49

No, I don't understand Boco either. And Soph's story is a bit eek (though I like how Pointy enjoyed it).

But they can't invite everyone Ledodgy, and it is their party etc.

Finally, I'd like it known that this is your basic straggler look. Uhuh. We're a cool yet yearning group wink

MmeLindt Wed 03-Mar-10 22:06:45

I was never bothered about not being invited to sit at the birthday table. It was obvious that they could not invite everyone in the class and there were bound to be some DC left out.

Sofable
I am squirming in embarrassment on MNHQ's behalf.

Spoof Wed 03-Mar-10 22:07:01

So, who went through winning haiku comp, and who got exclusive invites? (disinvited shock or otherwise)

sophable Wed 03-Mar-10 22:07:07

oh god you know...lines in sand have to be drawn somewhere etc etc.

is impossible isn't it.

unless you invite someone by mistake in which case you could just swallow the extra number.

I COULDN'T GO ANYWAY...genuinely as had not cheap ballet tix to new work triple bill...and it was great.

perhaps not as great as eyeing up kathy fletts handbag/shouting at GB about iraq (that's why i was a liability, i wouldn't have honest), and seeing cod and MP again...) but very very lovely nevertheless.

MamaGisNFI Wed 03-Mar-10 22:07:22

[sophable]

bibbity is that me? hmm blush

I'm having a party on Saturday and I'm afraid you're not invited HQ <snooty>

Ledodgy Wed 03-Mar-10 22:07:55

No I don't expect them to invite everyone but Boco and others like her surely should have been top of the list and as for the dis-inviting of Soph or anyone that's very bad form.

MmeLindt Wed 03-Mar-10 22:07:57

ooops. And now I have called you Sofable instead of Sophable.

Sorry.

I blame too many years in Germany, they don't do ph's.

Arrgh.

MamaGisNFI Wed 03-Mar-10 22:07:57

FUCK tht looks like I'm hugging sopahble!! I don't do huygs! I meant to put shock sophable

<withers away in shame>

sophable Wed 03-Mar-10 22:08:09

i was watching this it was absolutely stunning and if there are any tix left you must go

MamaGisNFI Wed 03-Mar-10 22:08:28

yyy boco sould def have been invited and me ffs

Pofacedagain Wed 03-Mar-10 22:09:15

you could have a haiku competition MamaG. Or a sonnet if you really want to iron out the riff raff.

LeninGrad Wed 03-Mar-10 22:10:22

Limericks I reckon.

ahundredtimes Wed 03-Mar-10 22:11:56

y don't understand the Boco thing

MamaGisNFI Wed 03-Mar-10 22:12:32

<snurk>

animula Wed 03-Mar-10 22:13:11

sophable - that is v. cute, re. your son. Sorry. But it is. We had the cross-sections book of Star Wars technical things. Oh boy, was I bored reading that at bed-time. And the karate outfit is from experience.

If I ever have a party, I'll invite you sophable. Though I can see it wouldn't be the same.

Pofaced - yes. More mn-ers would, I think, have made for more fun, surely? And, as you say, more in the spirit of what I think we feel mn "is". I wonder if part of it was a security thing? I suppose it's the trade-off between community and professionalism as mn gets bigger. I'm sure Swedes would have v. insghtful things to say.

That said - I really don't want to take the shine off the event. Which I'm pleased about (even though i wasn't there) on so man levels.

Ledodgy Wed 03-Mar-10 22:14:43

MammaG hello! I was thinking about you the other night (like you do) and remembered tht controversial thread you started when you were newish and everyone including me came down on you like a ton of bricks , what the hell was that thread about because I can't even remember. My first post was on the bf board arguing with Moondog. I soon learnt. grin

It's a shame you weren't invited you could have worn your scarf. wink

Ledodgy Wed 03-Mar-10 22:15:17

*mama I mean I gave you an extra M.

MamaGisNFI Wed 03-Mar-10 22:16:00

I made someone cry in rl and came on mn to crow about it, a bit

yy ton of bricks,

i couldn't have worn my scarf, its not boden grin

I'm glad you were thinking abotu me though

animula Wed 03-Mar-10 22:16:17

... pleased on so many levels.

Seriously, when I went back to university after the dc, I was patronised sooo much because I had dc. And mn is a v. large stick to whack the patronisers with.

WilfSell Wed 03-Mar-10 22:22:40

Right. Have finally finished making rats and hats <Book day...>

Can read thread properly. Where are the best photos please?

I wonder how many mumsnetters who have given their time and skills for free to mumsnet, did not get an invite?

It is true that not every member can be invited, but it strikes me a little crass maybe, when people such as Boco, who did the lovely Christmas cards, were not invited.

And to uninvite people? That is beyond rude.

MamaGisNFI Wed 03-Mar-10 22:35:02

tiktok
hunker
mars
lulumama
flowerybeanbag
mamag <cough>
mrsbadger

ALL deserved an invitation for services to MN

yes, VERY rude to uninvite somebody

maybe they have outgrown their boots.

MamaGisNFI Wed 03-Mar-10 22:37:18

maybe they have Q, maybe they have

sophable Wed 03-Mar-10 22:38:11

thing is mamag, everyone's list would be different wouldn't it?

why am i defending this [thunks self on head]

LilyBolero Wed 03-Mar-10 22:39:50

So mean to uninvite someone. Especially when people like Johnnie Boden and Annabel karmel (who let's face it, haven't contributed a huge amount to MN over the years) were there.

MamaGisNFI Wed 03-Mar-10 22:39:54

oh yes

but joking aside - boco for the pics, tiktok & hunker for the HOURS they spend on bf threads, lulu amd mars ditto childbirth/pg stuff etcetc

Sure, but people who have actually done work, given their time, not "just" be helpful when posting.

(We ALL are that of course wink )

bibbitybobbityhat Wed 03-Mar-10 22:41:52

And (per Beetroot) was PPH there? I wish I could stop being so nosey.

Ponders Wed 03-Mar-10 22:41:53

lapin
soapbox
St G
mears

MamaGisNFI Wed 03-Mar-10 22:42:43

well I'm sure that i wouldn't be moaning if I'd been there in all my finery quaffing champagne and saying "aren't I special"!

CaptainNancy Wed 03-Mar-10 22:42:56

Am I alone in thinking how odd it was not to have a single non-white face in the room?
It made me feel that mn is perhaps not quite so diverse and representative of the wider population as we think it is.

Ledodgy Wed 03-Mar-10 22:43:28

Soapbox - Christmas appeal

It's not subjective though is it? The blatantly obvious were missed out an imho that sucks.

MamaGisNFI Wed 03-Mar-10 22:43:35

I'm going to shut up now before Justine de-regs me or outs my current alter-ego anme chnage

I think it is important to recognise that important and influential people are more important to mnhq than mumsnetters. Who would give a toss about a party with only mumsnetters? The medja for sure would not be interested. So there would not be a chance to make money out of that party long term. It was a PR exercise not a birthday celebration.

But realistically, what is the actual cost of an additional 5-10 people in a party? Really?

MamaG, I am sure nobody would be deregged from given their honest opinion, free speach and democracy, right?

I am too old and jaded to care whether I am banned. grin

sophable Wed 03-Mar-10 22:45:58

women women there is NO WAY you would ever be banned from MN for criticising it!

this ain't moldies you know! (couldn't resist emoticon)

But Lapin, soapbox and StG (don't know about mears) aren't on MN any more are they, so why should they have been invited?

I think it's incredibly difficult for MN - they were always going to offend someone by not inviting them.

(Although agree the 'disinviting' of sophable was a silly mistake).

And MN is a business - you have to look at the bigger picture in terms of the role of the party.

It would have been lovely to have a MN party where we could all have been invited, but that's hardly feasible, is it?

Ledodgy Wed 03-Mar-10 22:46:22

Was Misdee there? I bloody hope she was invited since Peter's name was used as an example of mn moments in the paper the other week. I assume she must have been.

eitbomh Wed 03-Mar-10 22:46:44

MamaG, I think we'd all guessed your namechange wink

It was inevitable that they would invite some of their favourites, I am sure some of the more longstanding MNers are personal friends of J and C. It's their party etc etc. But "uninviting" someone is just shocking behaviour.

sophable Wed 03-Mar-10 22:46:46

you'd need hyde park BIWI!

MamaGisNFI Wed 03-Mar-10 22:46:50

lol

i was just kidding

hence teh bit about my alter ego name change

CaptainNancy, really?

Well, you can quite understand why no overseas posters were invited.

MamaGisNFI Wed 03-Mar-10 22:47:51

eithbomh are you sERIOUS
do you know its me?

shock

tell me firs tletter

...and I realise that I posted that as someone who was at the party. But I was a guest of a competition winner. I made no other valuable contribution, beyond my superlative personality grin.

Not.

Ledodgy Wed 03-Mar-10 22:48:24

Lol MamaG I am thinking I won't win any MN competitions in the near future. grin

MamaGisNFI Wed 03-Mar-10 22:48:31

<locks biwi in a cupboard>

CaptainNancy Wed 03-Mar-10 22:48:48

There was an overseas mner there!
NighByNight won the haiku comp

MamaGisNFI Wed 03-Mar-10 22:49:08

WINNERS CORNER

congratulations to ledodgy who has won a dog shit

Sweet jesus son of god shock Just walked in and have got to the part about blue waffle. Fuck fuck fuckity fuck shock shock shock

FUCK FUCK fuckity fuck....eeeeeuuuwwwww

Ledodgy Wed 03-Mar-10 22:49:57

ROFL! grin

Oh MamaG. And after I gave you my Joggler.

How could you.

<bangs hard on cupboard door>

CaptainNancy - I did not know that. The Haiku competition was only opened to overseas member the day after it officially closed! So, blardy good nightbynight was an "overseaser"

MamaGisNFI Wed 03-Mar-10 22:50:34

sorry blush abou the waffle

sorry biwi <sheepish> <unlocks door>

sophable Wed 03-Mar-10 22:51:03

whiffle there is something about the juxtaposition of a long heretical profanity and duncan bannatyne that has had me lmfao at your post. 10/10

Pofacedagain Wed 03-Mar-10 22:54:14

yes I was expecting to see Mars, Lulumama, Aitch, tiktok. I think SaintlydameMrsT should have been invited too, but controversial.

eitbomh Wed 03-Mar-10 22:54:29

LOL MamaG, suddenly posting in a Cod stylee will not disguise you grin

Everyone looked very tall in those pictures. Was Carmenere there, she does recipes doesn't she? I vaguely remember that she is a biggun (in a good way!)

Pofacedagain Wed 03-Mar-10 22:54:57

and no doubt she wouldn't have come.

MamaGisNFI Wed 03-Mar-10 22:55:12

eitbomh come back! Am I realoly so obvious or are you taking the piss?>!

Don't think Carmenere is a MNetter any more though is she? I didn't see her there last night, anyway.

MamaGisNFI Wed 03-Mar-10 22:55:49

thi sis MY style

I'm v lazy typist even though i do it for aliving!!

MamaGisNFI Wed 03-Mar-10 22:58:05

Ah you're just teasing me aren't you e

eitbomh Wed 03-Mar-10 23:00:20

Oh I thought Carmenere was Recipe Lady (confused)

She was.

eitbomh Wed 03-Mar-10 23:00:57

Now I am really confused, MamaG, because I thought you were - MamaG?

MamaGisNFI Wed 03-Mar-10 23:01:11

e <wail> stop ignornig meeeeee!

Ledodgy Wed 03-Mar-10 23:01:37

She is eitbomh .

MamaGisNFI Wed 03-Mar-10 23:02:00

oh thank fuck

it's fine - yes am MamaG

but also somone else just briefly for embarrssing thread

thought i'd been v obvious :O

Ledodgy Wed 03-Mar-10 23:02:05

I mean carm is and MamaG is MamaG too. grin

MamaGisNFI Wed 03-Mar-10 23:02:50

lolol

fanjolina Wed 03-Mar-10 23:03:03

Don't know if Misdee was there, but I do know that there was not an invitation policy of inviting all the MNers behind the published 'top ten MN moments'.

policywonk Wed 03-Mar-10 23:04:53

Aitch was invited but couldn't come, I think.

So you had: MNers who do paid work for MN, the haiku winners and their plus-ones (many of whom were also MNers).

Maybe not a perfect way of organising it, but MNHQ coming up with a list of posters whom they considered to be jolly important wouldn't have been great either, would it?

Maybe they should have operated some sort of saecret blackball system... wink

So, those who do work for free, were not included in the invitation policy. Get it.

eitbomh Wed 03-Mar-10 23:07:52

OH! Oh I get it now grin, no I thought you were mucking about and saying they would out you with your namechange of "MamaGisNFI"!

Now I will have to go and look at embarassing threads and see if I can identify you. Is it the pubic waxing one? grin

MamaGisNFI Wed 03-Mar-10 23:08:39

hahano thaknfully n ot me!

IPlayBanjoOnMyFanjo Wed 03-Mar-10 23:11:41

"So you had: MNers who do paid work for MN, the haiku winners and their plus-ones (many of whom were also MNers).

Maybe not a perfect way of organising it, but MNHQ coming up with a list of posters whom they considered to be jolly important wouldn't have been great either, would it?"

Errr....so what category did Cod fall into?
Methinks it was that last one you defined PolicyWonk - "MNHQ coming up with a list of posters whom they considered to be jolly important"
wink

policywonk Wed 03-Mar-10 23:12:20

Ach this is all very dog-in-the-manger. By 'work for free', do you mean 'posting'? ie what we all do, by definition? You're asking MNHQ to come up with a list of posters whom they consider to be more valuable than anyone else. How would that have been better than an open competition judged by an independent outsider?

Ponders Wed 03-Mar-10 23:12:24

"Maybe they should have operated some sort of saecret blackball system...wink"

Maybe they did wink

No PW, I did not mean posting. We all do that. I am not paid to post, by I wish! grin

policywonk Wed 03-Mar-10 23:14:02

Cod has done paid work for MN afaik

IPlayBanjoOnMyFanjo Wed 03-Mar-10 23:14:28

But they did, didn't they PW.

Or was Cod just 'special'?

arf

IPlayBanjoOnMyFanjo Wed 03-Mar-10 23:16:08

yes, Cod is MN's inbuilt spellchecker

grin

policywonk Wed 03-Mar-10 23:17:43

Well if you don't mean 'posting', what do you mean? How would you define it without raising howls of outrage? I admire hunker and tiktok a great deal, but personally I would add Franny to that list. that's the point - we would all have different lists of posters who have carved out niches and given valuable advice. The rows such a policy generated would have been never-ending.

Again - how would any of this have been better than an independently judged competition open to all members?

I explained what I meant further down.

MamaGisNFI Wed 03-Mar-10 23:21:07

I think we should have had to enter a comp

like write a haiku or summat

SpringHeeledJack Wed 03-Mar-10 23:22:29

<<sighs>>

I wish they had invited Hully, though

I can only imagine the headlines

Boco Wed 03-Mar-10 23:24:06

I've done paid work for mn. Not keen on being a dog in a manger though. Unless I can be one with MamaG.

MamaG i think I spotted your thread - was it the blue waffle one?

CaptainNancy Wed 03-Mar-10 23:25:46

but who is hully? <<glares>>

MamaGisNFI Wed 03-Mar-10 23:26:19

<makes room in manger for boco>

haha no it wasn't, it was another one

not rlated to waffles at all

eitbomh Wed 03-Mar-10 23:26:29

Oh stop it with the blue waffle, I am trying not to google it. Is it akin to dragon butter?

Ledodgy Wed 03-Mar-10 23:26:36

No Policy by work for free we mean people that MNHQ have employed on a voluntary basis to work for them. Not post on threads, work.

policywonk Wed 03-Mar-10 23:27:13

Yes boco, I don't understand why you weren't invited. And the uninviting of sophable was grim, obviously.

MamaGisNFI Wed 03-Mar-10 23:27:23

no e it's fine, just google it and put yourself out of your misery

policywonk Wed 03-Mar-10 23:28:51

Oh, I don't know about that LeDodgy - possibly before my time. Do you mean mods?

Ledodgy Wed 03-Mar-10 23:29:50

Can I come in the manger too? I didn't expect to be invited but am indignant on the behalf of those who should have. I also want to share a manger with Boco and mamaG.

JeremyVile Wed 03-Mar-10 23:29:52

Oooh...it all sounds lovely and glam and exciting. And Tim Dowling!

Cant believe I missed obm on 4 news.

Policywonk, do you work for mnhq? I dont have the spreadsheet handy. Not that I need to know of course. Just wondering in what capacity you are posting.

MamaGisNFI Wed 03-Mar-10 23:30:36

oh ok then ledodgy, come on in but don't sit on my fucking scarf.

Thing is - it was MN's party, therefore up to them who they invite. It's inevitable over the years that they have made friends with some people. Why shouldn't they invite them?

There's always going to be someone that the rest of us think should have been invited.

MamaGisNFI Wed 03-Mar-10 23:31:31

<MamaG looks at what she started>

I dont think I know what a manger is, unless you are away in one. I know what a minger is. But if the company is MamaG, ledodge and Boco, I am in (unless I am blackballed out, or plainly uninvited)

Ledodgy Wed 03-Mar-10 23:31:58

Did anyone actually go up to Tim Dowling and say 'You for example are a twat'? because if you didn't quite frankly you have let the side down.

policywonk Wed 03-Mar-10 23:31:58

Yes, OBM and I work on the campaigns. That's why we were there.

MamaGisNFI Wed 03-Mar-10 23:32:46

no no, there's room for you Q. come on in.

JeremyVile Wed 03-Mar-10 23:33:17

I'm so behind...

<positions herself carefully outside "the scarf">

MamaGisNFI Wed 03-Mar-10 23:34:58

lol
It's ok i'l put the scarf around my mouth as a gag for the following reasons:

1. to stop me causing more trouble
2. to stop you 3 sitting on it
3. to find anohter interesting use for it

JeremyVile Wed 03-Mar-10 23:34:59

I'm probably years late Ponk, but thats fanastic!

you look nice gagged.

pmsl

policywonk Wed 03-Mar-10 23:37:10

Well if you would SEND ME YOUR NEW EMAIL ADDRESS WOMAN I could have told you sooner

Watch OBM here in her full glory second clip down

gigglewitch Wed 03-Mar-10 23:41:04

heeheeeee <rubs hands>
Is there room for another one?

eitbomh Wed 03-Mar-10 23:43:36

MamaG, could you stop calling me "e" please, I have carefully crafted this acronym and now you are reducing me to a little white pill <sulks>

Oh is that why onebatmother was interviewed? I thought they had interviewed a bunch of people and she was the only one who managed to go more than 5 seconds without saying "fanjo" or "bumsex". Or "rockets" wink

Ponders Wed 03-Mar-10 23:44:09

but of course Benjamin Cohen was very very drunk {smile]

Ponders Wed 03-Mar-10 23:44:40

or, indeed smile

JeremyVile Thu 04-Mar-10 00:05:03

Oh god, I love her...

Wonk - I've been crap with a kapital k.

jeremyvile @ hotmail .co.uk

Pofacedagain Thu 04-Mar-10 00:23:08

Boco you should have been there.

Shiitake Thu 04-Mar-10 09:35:57

You mean loads of mumsnetters had the opportunity to bollock GB and didn't? confused

I think I may be in the wrong place!

PS, is there an elite here then?

Spoof Thu 04-Mar-10 11:01:45

Ah ha! <lightbulb>

Rubyrubyruby Thu 04-Mar-10 11:30:33

Could someone turn that light off please?

mollyroger Thu 04-Mar-10 13:05:26

was Boco not invited? I thought she was the official MN illustrator? She could have done amusing sketches and cartoons and flogged them to private eye--

JustineMumsnet (MNHQ) Thu 04-Mar-10 13:13:17

We're very sorry we couldn't have invited everyone, folks. We did think very carefully about how to negotiate this as we knew it would be contentious (!). We felt it would be completely invidious and anathema to the MN spirit to pick out particular posters - however brilliant their posts have been over the years - because we knew it would mean someone would feel left out / hurt etc. So we restricted it strictly to MNetters who've been part of the editorial team and who we're still in contact with.

We (ie Olivia) put huge amounts of efforts into organising a fantastic prize for our competition winners, which we thought was the fairest way of making sure Mumsnetters were fully represented at the party, without any charges of favoritism. The Sophable invite was pure human error, for which we apologised swiftly and profusely. It was grim to retract the invite from our perspective too, but if we hadn't that wouldn't have been fair either and would probably have led to charges of favoritism.

Boco you should certainly have been invited - huge apologies. I promise to do my utmost to organise a special Tim Dowling session for you - in which you can stroke him, tell him he's a twat or otherwise.

It was quite a big undertaking for us to organise an event like this with all the different elements - from Carol Ann Duffy to the PM, to hotels and transport - as we're really not natural party planners. Essentially we tried to do things in the MN spirit as best we could. Inevitably we made some mistakes about which we're very sorry. But we did try our very best!

Buda Thu 04-Mar-10 13:22:48

Well Justine I am not QUITE sure that that is really good enough. I have been practising my Haka for WEEKS and was waiting for the auditions. I don't don't what a haiku thinkie even is. (Uneducated obviously!)

I think Sophable did you a favour actually! She could have had a HUGE thread in AIBU getting lots of opinions on the etiquette of being invited and then disinvited to a party and then dropped the clanger that it was the MN party!! (I think you should make it up to her actually.)

And does anyone else find it slightly ironic that we all --well me wanted to go to the party but want MN to be a secret and to be anonymous??!!

Buda Thu 04-Mar-10 13:23:54

I'll just throw in another actually as I don't think i put enough in my second para. Actually. smile

policywonk Thu 04-Mar-10 13:25:40

I WANT A SPECIAL TIM SESSION

You might have to book him for a couple of days and provide him with some Lucozade

ColeenR Thu 04-Mar-10 13:25:40

Well I was there and it was fantastic!

SwarthyWaiter Thu 04-Mar-10 13:26:34

iw as quite near hin at one point and meant to say summat
but was too drunk was waylaid

Boco Thu 04-Mar-10 13:27:15

Tim Dowling not particularly my thing, but if you could possibly make it Jon Ronson?

TallestTower Thu 04-Mar-10 13:28:27

Justine - hope you don't mind a bit of chipping in from a non-prolific poster, but I hate that you've now had to come on here and explain yourself.

It must take some of the shine off for you at a time when you should actually be feeling really proud of yourself and perhaps having a little wallow in the feeling of knowing you've created something rather amazing.

Could you ever have imagined 10 years ago that Mumsnet would come to this? That you'd be having a celebratory party that the Prime Minister would attend?

(And before everyone jumps on me and says "What would you know?" You're right, I know almost nothing. But, I do know that I love MN and I am very pleased that it's here. And if this was a thread on AIBU, people would be jumping in saying, "Well, children have just got to realise they're not going to be invited to every party and that's just life.)

Go wallow, Justine. You've all done a great thing here.

Anguis Thu 04-Mar-10 13:31:58

Give Boco Jon Ronson (no accounting for taste)and put the Tim session open to competition.

animula Thu 04-Mar-10 13:32:40

Wow.

Tallest Tower, you said what I wanted to say, but so well.

I just want to add a small, sheepish "thank you".

Mumsnet is amazing.

animula Thu 04-Mar-10 13:34:03

grin for Anguis.

Buda Thu 04-Mar-10 13:36:11

Hear Hear Tallest Tower.

And here's to Mumsnet and all who sail in her! (clink of empty tea mug)

Justine - has Carrie gotten over flashing her boob at GB or was it a deliberate move do you think? grin

Ah so Cod won a haiku thing did she then?
Or wsa she invited as queen of mn?

Anguis Thu 04-Mar-10 13:39:05

I think cod has been on the 'editorial' freelancer payroll? So invited as all of those were, as MN workers?

LeninGrad Thu 04-Mar-10 13:40:24

Bit of a headache there Ruby?

ahundredtimes Thu 04-Mar-10 13:45:45

She should have been invited as queen of MN, for shure, but suspect was her brief, but no less bracing or vigorous for that, editorial role as Style & Beauty consumer consultant which won the day.

The competition was great, the party looked swell, MN is a triumph.

blouseenthusiast Thu 04-Mar-10 13:46:57

Cod was serving canapes

squeaver Thu 04-Mar-10 13:52:24

Well it wouldn't be an MN event of any kind without some rumpus/raking over old fights/poor Justine having to explain herself.

Thanks for telling us all about it

<joins Wilf in the vicarious enjoyment camp>

squeaver Thu 04-Mar-10 13:58:55

Oh jest watched the Ch 4 news bits.

OBM - you were so good.

Benjamin Cohen so obviously pissed.

sophable Thu 04-Mar-10 13:59:54

i seriously hope that nothing has taken the shine off it justine. many congrats and may mn keep going from strength to strength!

onebatmother Thu 04-Mar-10 14:04:36

Policywonk I'm worried by your shouting and concerned that you're not being entirely transparent about which sense of the word 'session' you intend.

Keywords: Mumnset, party, Tim Dowling, christ man run and hide while there's still time.

onebatmother Thu 04-Mar-10 14:06:42

Thanks squeaver!

Actually I think BC not pissed, just a bit distracted by Justine high-kicking a conga with Gordon and pals behind me.

Plus - he is so petite that I had to consciously look where his head should have been to avoid double-chin overload.

Rubyrubyruby Thu 04-Mar-10 14:11:00

LeninGrad - grin No, not at all - I'm fine today thanks.

ABetaDad Thu 04-Mar-10 14:20:19

Just an observation from a Tory Boy. blush

There seem to have been quite a lot of people from the left of the political divide at this party and quite a lot of champagne.

Champagne and Socialists?

Who would have thunk it! shock

<if that doesn't get me banned nothing will>

SwarthyWaiter Thu 04-Mar-10 14:21:41

oh no you are wrong.
twas not so.
i am sure i saw a naice man from torygraph in Hunting tweeds.

chasing Olivia wiht a "tally ho!"

Rhubarb Thu 04-Mar-10 14:23:34

Oi ToryBoy! My arse!

ABetaDad Thu 04-Mar-10 14:36:14

Yeah but the Telegraph seems to have gone all Liberal so that doesn't count.

Besides, as a Tory Boy at university I always found socialist women so full of contradictions they were endlessly fascinating.

<feeling quite brave after half a bottle of claret at lunch> grin

SwarthyWaiter Thu 04-Mar-10 14:37:14

wel what do you want me to say?
i saw mussolini?

Rhubarb Thu 04-Mar-10 14:38:32

Wooo ABD, sock it to me baby. Am socialist through and through ToryArse.

grin

Anguis Thu 04-Mar-10 14:38:38

As a socialist woman at university I always found Tory boys so full of claret that they were endlessly dull.

Rhubarb Thu 04-Mar-10 14:39:22

I like you Anguis!

LeninGrad Thu 04-Mar-10 14:40:20

Lol, Anguis, I was just constructing something similar in my head but distracted by a wriggling baby!

ABetaDad Thu 04-Mar-10 14:40:56

Swarthy - you saw Mussolini - in the flesh?

Showing your age there a bit aren't you?

grin

Rhubarb Thu 04-Mar-10 14:42:02

ToryBoys always dodge stuff too.

sophable Thu 04-Mar-10 14:47:12

spits water all over keyboard at the assertion that torygraph is liberal!!!

what do you read? Facism Today?

sophable Thu 04-Mar-10 14:47:49

i have to say, i wonder, was it quite right in a non-biased way that GB was there and the other two weren't?

ABetaDad Thu 04-Mar-10 14:49:16

Opposites attract in my experience. wink

<dodges missiles>

sophable Thu 04-Mar-10 14:50:30

i'm a bit upset that you're an unashamed, claret swigging toryboy tbh. i thought you were alright.

mind you being a fricking labour voter isn't much better post iraq.

Rhubarb Thu 04-Mar-10 14:53:27

ABD there are no missiles dear, did you not hear?

But yes you're quite right, I always go for the suited, floppy-haired, briefcase-carrying, Daily Mail reading arrogant arse when out on the pull.

Trouble is they're always too busy quaffing champers and scorning the working classes to be a decent shag.

JustineMumsnet (MNHQ) Thu 04-Mar-10 14:54:28

We tried to get the others, honest. Dave n Sam sent a nice message (said they had 2 other events that eve and couldn't get away) and Nick was coming and pulled out at the last min...

LeninGrad Thu 04-Mar-10 14:55:40

ABD, are you flirting? This is worse than a sex thread, I'm hiding behind my hands as I read.

And Justine, you just know that last bit is going to be jumped on.

Rhubarb Thu 04-Mar-10 14:57:11

Tsk, don't you just hate it when men do that? More typical of the ToryBoy I believe, but who would have thought it of CleggyBoy? Couldn't keep it up could he?

ABD do you like dragon butter on your blue waffle?

Anguis Thu 04-Mar-10 14:57:29

Saying 'socialist women are so full of contradictions that they are endlessly fascinating' is right up there with 'God your sexy when your angry' in terms of being a patronising *!~#

Anguis Thu 04-Mar-10 14:59:02

you're

<too annoyed for grammar>

LeninGrad Thu 04-Mar-10 15:00:20

God, you're sexy when you're angry Anguis.

<scarpers for school run>

onebatmother Thu 04-Mar-10 15:01:15

Anguis you've got a typo too.. Not *!~#, silly! It's 'prick'!

sophable Thu 04-Mar-10 15:01:25

[disappointed at cleggo]

LeninGrad Thu 04-Mar-10 15:02:06

Nothing like a bunch of angry women to get the juices flowing, what ho!

Anguis Thu 04-Mar-10 15:02:24

Lenin grin

Onebat: yes, how silly of me. I find that when I am really cross I can't actually swear at all.

sophable Thu 04-Mar-10 15:03:06

oh and justine as you're reading this did you find out about the misinvite and have a moment, a second even, of 'oh sophable, oh oh, it would be so lovely to have her as she is so fabulous' before reason took over and you realised for the sake of your people, of the greater good, you needed to sacrifice your wants and needs and disinvite me?

did you? did you???

Rhubarb Thu 04-Mar-10 15:04:38

I find that whenever I try to article myself in front of commoners, all I can manage to muster is "oiks".

Justine - did he clean up the mess then?

Rhubarb Thu 04-Mar-10 15:05:32

Disinvite? Huh?

sophable Thu 04-Mar-10 15:06:04

or was it more like 'oh fuck, not her, she'll just elbow her way to the front of the bar queue and shout at GB about iraq'

sophable Thu 04-Mar-10 15:06:39

read the thread rhubarb read the thread.

or you could have a biscuit instead.

Anguis Thu 04-Mar-10 15:07:37

lol at clean up the mess. Like so many liberals, he lost his deposit.

SwarthyWaiter Thu 04-Mar-10 15:10:49

and as for GOK WAN

Rhubarb Thu 04-Mar-10 15:12:45

Oh boy, just read huge chunk of middle of thread that I hadn't noticed.

All about sophable and the moldies and I seen a certain one of them is back.

I really must declare myself biscuit at this point.

sophable Thu 04-Mar-10 15:13:31

can you please separate us out and not put us in same sentence at least.

about sophable.

and moldies.

would be better.

Rhubarb Thu 04-Mar-10 15:16:06

Ah shit sorry sophable, didn't mean it like that at all!

If I could go back and edit I would.

Geez, that must REALLY suck. No, I won't post on it further, I really won't.

Will you accept a manly pat on the back?

sophable Thu 04-Mar-10 15:16:42

it really doesn't suck that much.

not like cliff richard in hell.

ABetaDad Thu 04-Mar-10 15:20:35

Justine - I have staying power and could have come at the last minute if you had let me know. Did you not have me on the reserves bench? hmm grin

Rhubarb - believe me, I promise you, I have never ever had the urge to find out what 'dragon butter' actually is and I really never want to know. biscuit

sophable/Anguis/Lenin - I know you like me really. smile

Rhubarb Thu 04-Mar-10 15:20:52

grin

Well I see ToryBoy has buggered off. Probably asleep with dribble sliding out of his open mouth and bits of caviar stuck between his teeth.

Hope he has a hangover.

Rhubarb Thu 04-Mar-10 15:21:29

Oh, the dragon doth awaken! How's your Pimms?

ABetaDad Thu 04-Mar-10 15:27:48

GOK WAN ? He is a lovely bloke and his programmes are great but if you had wanted style and beauty I could have done a special appearance.

Indeed, I spent 2 hours in Hobbs choosing dresses yesterday. DW thought they were really nice as well.

Anguis Thu 04-Mar-10 15:28:18

Oh, yes, ABD, on the grounds of being so full of contradictions and all.

Rhubarb Thu 04-Mar-10 15:30:09

ABD - you know I love you don't you?

Oh yes, full of contradictions meself.

ABetaDad Thu 04-Mar-10 15:34:52

I think this Maria dress is nice for the school run, work, lounging at home or early evening canapes on the terrace and really quite affordable.

Spoof Thu 04-Mar-10 15:38:05

Just me then.blush

Rhubarb Thu 04-Mar-10 15:40:09

ABetaDad with a socialist type being all contradictory.

No spoof - I don't get it?

ABetaDad Thu 04-Mar-10 15:41:33

<gives Rhubarb a manly slap on the back, glances lovingly at labrador, shoots passing pheasant> grin

morningpaper Thu 04-Mar-10 15:44:14

ANYWAY where are the PICTURES? HMMM? Is Justine still photoshopping her buttocks out of all the photos?

Rhubarb Thu 04-Mar-10 15:45:10

Giz a pheasant then you tight Tory git!

policywonk Thu 04-Mar-10 15:58:16

Bit late, but lol at 'I had to consciously look where his head should have been'

As for 'session', I think my meaning was pleasingly unambiguous.

Spoof Thu 04-Mar-10 16:20:35

oooh it broke for a bit...!

I was thinking along the lines of catholic contraception. Filthy mind that I have.

ABetaDad Thu 04-Mar-10 16:54:47

Rhubarb - you are the one who is married to a farmer's son. Call yourself a socialist - get your own pheasants!

I had a look at your blog by the way. Do you really write about Australia? That is quite a skill - when you are in the UK.

I agree with what you said about the recession too. Double dip is very much on the card. We are still going into the recession - not coming out. I blame the socialists and the bankers. angry

Shiitake Thu 04-Mar-10 16:57:50

DISinviting someone from a party? shock

Wouldn't it have been better to just suck it up and add one on, looked like there was plenty of room, or is she prone to streaking at large gatherings?

Jaysus must have taken some balls to send that email. Imagine doing that to a kid invited to a party.

Have you done something really baaaaaaaaaaaaad?

cocolepew Thu 04-Mar-10 16:59:51

I don't know who Tim Dowling is and I don't want to Google because I'll type in blue waffle instead [sits on hands]

onebatmother Thu 04-Mar-10 17:01:03

Yes Dowling is a verb coco. I'd steer well clear.

I was curious about whether Sam'n'Dave were NFI I must say

eitbomh Thu 04-Mar-10 17:02:12

I think MNTowers had to submit a guest list to Number 10 and they went pale when they got to Sophable's name wink

I know who Sam 'n' Dave are they sang soul man[cultured]

E.g. "I was well dowled by what he wrote about sitting in an office with a dog watching you."

Shiitake Thu 04-Mar-10 17:09:01

Pofacedagain Thu 04-Mar-10 17:13:38

Anguis Thu 04-Mar-10 17:13:54

I was surprised too that there was no frisking, given that gb was there

LeninGrad Thu 04-Mar-10 17:13:59

You only had to ask po.

Pofacedagain Thu 04-Mar-10 17:15:03

nighbynight Thu 04-Mar-10 17:15:29

I am finally back home, after a mammoth 21 hour journey, during which the bus driver conned us all that he had left a passenger behind in Brussels (the guy was in the bus loo when it pulled out of the station). He kept shouting "I told you, KEINE PAUSE! You take taxi if you want a cigarette next time!"

Thank you, thank you, thank you for the prize, MNHQ - I had a great time, and loved every minute, and hauled around 40kg of books and choccies/english cakes home to my children, who screamed and fell on the suitcases.
Was fantastic meeting so many lovely people in the flesh.

(Also I must say, that I am now a Boden convert, as the top that I chose is beautiful, and far easier to wear than it looks in the catalogue.)

Anguis Thu 04-Mar-10 17:17:33

It was lovely to meet you nightbynight.

nighbynight Thu 04-Mar-10 17:27:39

Likewise, Anguis. I may summon up the courage to post on the wanker threads now that I have met so many of you...smile.

MNHQ: ermmm well the policy was just people that we've had doing edity bits, and Haikuers.
MNers: <going through Sophable's tax return> BUT WHAT ABOUT SOPHABLE? HMMM?
MNHQ: Well the thing is, we sort of invited her by mistake
VIPERS: MISTAKE YOU SAY? THAT WAS FUCKING CONVENIENT SEEING AS MORNINGPAPER IS IN LOVE WITH HER <insert reason of choice> YOU COCKING KNOBBERS
MNHQ: (tied to stakes) NO REALLY
HARRIDANS: FUCK YOU BASTARD JUSTINE AND YOUR FUCKING EVIL EMPIRE

you see the problem

LeninGrad Thu 04-Mar-10 19:23:47

That's just about the nub of it I reckon.

And why did you eye me up and down suspiciously at my 5'4" assertion, eh? The heel on my very sensible shoes added at least half an inch too I'll have you know.

morningpaper Thu 04-Mar-10 19:29:29

Ahhhh well, I thought you looked like a complete pixie but forgot I had two foot heels on myself

WilfSell Thu 04-Mar-10 19:33:43

I WANT TO KNOW WHO THE PICTURES ARE OF.

No-one's gonna tell me are they?

I'm not stalking honest; just pure Hello-esque noseyness.

I'm on the very end, lefthand side, back row.

I don't want to name any of the others in case they won't want to say!

bibbitybobbityhat Thu 04-Mar-10 19:48:19

Me too, Wilf.

Forget GB, forget SB, forget JR, forget the man from Google.

We want names of Mumsnetters!!

Come on, don't be shy.

After all, Onebat has so like completely outed herself.

And PolicyWonk (her pic was up on this very website for all to swoon at for ages).

And, also, MorningPaper for her outstanding services to diminutivitygrin on Gok's programme generally.

So come on. Name names. We are only curious and panting for details.

Poor Justine, she felt really bad for not being able to invite everyone who wanted to come.

Good grief, I said I don't photograph well, can everyone remember that I am PREGNANT (though obviously not carrying the baby in my thighs, for which I have no excuse. I've just realised why, I always look like I have dead eyes in photo as they are dark and deep set. So I am the one who looks like a zombie (the dead eyes and pregnancy insomnia).

Not going to point out which one I am but it is easy to find out if you look for my Boden dress thread in S&B.

Can I also point out that technically I wasn't a winner, I was second reserve, so really should send Frakkinaround my goody bag <munch munch> though it might be missing some chocolate grin

onebatmother Thu 04-Mar-10 20:19:22

grin MP
That's what I was trying to say earlier on but without swearing - which I should know by now is always a fucking error.

It's a fuckup, no mistake - but I can well imagine the bolt of cold panic that ran through MNHQ as they realised that they would appear to have allowed dreadful favouritism (and to someone so clearly worthy of favouritism, Sophable).

onebatmother Thu 04-Mar-10 20:20:19

Oh bumper lol re 'carrying the baby in my thighs'

When are we getting the lovely gallery? Presumably any shots of people trying to stroke politicians and steal all the google fruit will not be published on the internet?

ApplesinmyPocket Thu 04-Mar-10 20:48:35

I'm second from the right, back row.

Had a crisis-moment when I saw that pic, I thought my matronly BRA was showing three inches over the top of my dress and everyone had been too polite to tell me. On closer inspection it's my Google-label.

nighbynight Thu 04-Mar-10 20:49:52

I am centre front row of the haiku photo.

onebatmother Thu 04-Mar-10 20:50:05

Yars spoof. I was grey and red, in all the wrong places.

onebatmother Thu 04-Mar-10 20:51:49

'traversed' is a euphemism for 'clomped across'

Spoof Thu 04-Mar-10 20:55:43

Are you related to Frances de la Tour, perchance?

morningpaper Thu 04-Mar-10 20:56:14

lol onebat

about three people asked me what lipstick you were wearing as it didn't appear to come off, but I said you just applied it every 30 seconds

bibbitybobbityhat Thu 04-Mar-10 20:56:14

Hello apples and nighby and biwi grin.

Can't see any large thighs so bumper retains an air of mystery.

onebatmother Thu 04-Mar-10 21:00:53

No, spoof. But I take your point <chilly>

It is Nars Shanghai Express. The trick is a glaze of dribble, which sets it nicely.

<hugs bibbity>

BuzzingNoise Thu 04-Mar-10 21:04:41

Have you all seen the photo of my friend and I chatting to Gordon? here

morningpaper Thu 04-Mar-10 21:08:13

the dribble was genius

I took the lid of my expensive make-up in the toilets and it rolled down the back of the Google Sink into a bloody black hole! JJ got on her knees trying to dismantle the entire sink, but it was gorn. So I had to wrap it in some fancy tissue instead. <sulk>

onebatmother Thu 04-Mar-10 21:09:24

Oh that's a lovely photo. Everyone' got that slightly mad look that people get when an internationally famous figure comes anywhere near - quick, look natural! But Buzzing you look spectacularly at ease with the Prime Fucking Minister of the United Fucking Kingdom.

BuzzingNoise Thu 04-Mar-10 21:09:36

MorningPaper, meeting you was my highlight!

And was I the only one that was impressed by the tampon display in the loos?

BuzzingNoise Thu 04-Mar-10 21:10:58

Thanks, onebatmother. The copious amounts of champagne helped grin Well, that and the fact that I am not into politics at all (should I admit that?)

OliviaMumsnet (MNHQ) Thu 04-Mar-10 21:11:36

Haiku peeps - is nighbynight joking in the lovely email she just sent me? Were the Egyptian footy team at the hotel?!shock or is she pulling my leg?wink

MP there are no photos of you because you were too busy telling everyone that your dress was from Asda and cost eight quid that the photographer could only get a blurhmm grin

In all seriousness, the fab Jo is pulling together an album now and sorry to the haiku people who weren't in the group shot - hopefully Jo or her trusty assistant got you somehow during the rest of the evening - we only had a certain timescale to get the group shots done sad

onebatmother Thu 04-Mar-10 21:11:40

The swearing was meant to add to the 'kinell he's 'kin famous innit?' vibe - but appears instead to be expressing Blair-like bitterness. Sorry. Must do work now.

BuzzingNoise Thu 04-Mar-10 21:13:27

Olivia, yes they were! There were some gorgeous legs around!

I'm off to drink wine (again). Back later smile

morningpaper Thu 04-Mar-10 21:14:41

lol @ Blair-like bitterness

No I definitely walked slowly past any cameras and also made the Haiku Table toss their hair and laugh uproariously at me as though I was Terribly Hilarious so that would look impressive

I was very impressed too, almost tempted to take some even though I probably won't have a period for 2 years and have a mooncup anyway, but y'know, it's free stuff. I was also gutted at the meal being so late as I would have liked to stock up on free cheesecake, but it was far too late for me, damn it, should have asked for some to take away!

I didn't realise the biscuits were made by Tate and Lyle, I thought they had been made by one of Justine's kids grin

Spoof Thu 04-Mar-10 21:18:41

oh i think she's fab, she has an eternal youth. smile

BuzzingNoise Thu 04-Mar-10 21:18:50

Did anyone else think that Carrie MumsNet is rather Kylie-esque? Lucky sod.

ahundredtimes Thu 04-Mar-10 21:19:53

Wilf and I are in a relay team of enthusiasm -

Oooh I now love that photo, you chatting and Gordon I am WARMING to greatly via the MN party, really, I am, he looks so genial and nice and democratic and talked to Cod and just appears to have been this utterly winning presence. Sorry, I can't help it - and Justine looking all pleased and indulgent and proud in the background.

grin

Olivia, they were there, though DH kept telling me they were the Olympic Team hmm - too much champagne methinks grin

sophable Thu 04-Mar-10 21:22:57

cocking nob is my new favourite swear MP.

this thread makes me feel warm inside...

i am SO FUCKING HAPPY I'VE FINALLY NAILED MY KITCHEN LAYOUT AND JUST FELT THE BABY MOVE!!!

huzzah and ballyhoo as abetadad would no doubt bray! (mwah, love you darling, you know i do)

ahundredtimes Thu 04-Mar-10 21:25:33

shall I watch the speeches?

<holds pom poms mid-air>

That's amazing sophable, how far along are you?

I'm going to bed now, but I am hoping that we can string this post-party dissection out for a while, I'm enjoying my 5 minutes of fame grin

morningpaper Thu 04-Mar-10 21:28:56

yes they are quite short good
