It's really bugging me now as they don't open properly - very slow and just keeps hanging.

How strange, I've been getting this as well, and thought it was something to do with my computer.

Is anyone else getting this?

Me too, could it be that do you think?

Mind you it never used to do this

Report
SausageRocket · 29/08/2009 16:53

it doesn't happen with any other links from other sites and never used to happen with MN.

Hello. Is this only happening when you click on ad links?

Or when you click on any link (for example, a link in a thread)?

Report
SausageRocket · 29/08/2009 17:30

It is links in a thread. I don;t click through ads

I am using firefox and have vista and it happens to me, I just thought it was supposed to

SoupDragon · 29/08/2009 18:24

I've had this too. Generally not on the first click on a link (nin a post, not an ad). I'm on Firefox with Vista too.

Thanks for all your replies.

And I really don't think this should be happening on links within threads.

I will make sure the Techs look into it when they're back in the Shed next week.

I'm using safari on a mac and I get this too. I thought is was because I was using crappy old safari.

I had problems with a ling redirecting me back to the thread the link was in

HelenMumsnet · 29/08/2009 20:23

Now that IS weird, SoupDragon!

It's an affiliate marketing thing, so that when someone links to Boden, for example, Mumsnet get a bit of money if someone clicks through and buys something.

nannynick · 29/08/2009 20:45

Helen, I thought the idea of RedirectingAt was entirely to do with links posted by users in message threads. The RedirectingAt service checks to see if an affiliate code is available for the link, adds it (so mumsnet get the credit if someone buys something having clicked the link) and forwards the browser on to the linked website.

Just checked some links I posted a few days ago (playground advice) and I'm not getting any noticeable delay when clicking a link. RedirectingAt is taking the link then quickly forwarding on the request. I'm using Firefox 3.0.13 on Vista.

SoupDragon- I have also has that as well. I end up going back and clicking again, getting myself all confused and then giving up

HelenMumsnet · 29/08/2009 20:59

Yes, nannynick, you may well be right.

Will check all this out when I'm back in the office on Tues.

The one I had it on wa this thread. If I click on the first link in the OP I get the Boden page it's meant to be, if I then click the second, I get sent back to the thread. It's still doing it.

It's probably a bug - there's a / at the end of the link. These are the boots. (I don't like them.)

Hello again.

OK, have had words with Techy people and can tell you that nannynick was absolutely right.

When you click on a link to an online ship, the RedirectingAt thing allows Mumsnet to get a (teeny-tiny) payment if you then go on to buy anything on that site.

We are trialling it for a short while.

If you continue to find it really annoying/slow, please let us know.
