Take their precious toys in a small bag. Walk straight into their new bedroom and get them out. Make them a corner.

Then jump on the beds.

See this is what happens when thread titles get truncated ROFL

Take their brother or sister in with them and give them each a secret mission for the day.

Brother 'My mission is to find out as many names of people as I can'

Sister 'My mission is to beat my brother'

Soon means they get to know people.

One catch though, it only works once they are over 5....

Creche, oh bllcks, I should learn to read first.

In Active Convos the thread come up with 'MN needs your help re settling your child in to a holiday' 100x very helpfully answered that. If titles keep being truncated we all might have to get very clever about getting our point across in 60 characters or less

Abby - I think she's refering to the fact that the title is truncated in Active Convos. So it doesn't have the 'creche' on the end, and I helpfully jumped in here thinking it was about going on holiday, rather than going to a holiday creche.

See? Hence the jumping on beds, and the somewhat curious advice that you find your child a small corner to sit on their own. I wouldn't normally advise this for a social environment. . . .

ah - thanks! Actually, oneliein, your idea is a good one as I can use it for more general kids club situations.

Don't call it a creche or a nursery. My two have an inbuilt aversion to those words. We find cunning new names - "the teddy bears' den" or "the secret cave". A favourite teddy, a special kiss from mummy to put in their pocket and make sure you come back unexpectedly early on the first day so that you are tearing them away from their new found friends and activities rather than picking up a sad and lonely child moping in the corner while the staff tidy away.

Actually what is a holiday creche?

And, importantly, do not forget to collect blankie at the end of the day or you will be scouring the resort looking for the person with the key while your child howls in their bedroom...
