Help me Tech! Clicked on a link from a thread and have buggered my PC!

Something claiming to be MS AntiSpyware 2009 has downloaded onto my PC after I clicked on a link from Miaou's thread about OJ's blanket and it keeps giving me warning messages that my PC is horribly infected and I must pay to get the full version of the programme to clean up the PC. We already have McAfee, btw. Any advice?

Happened to me yesterday too. I have managed to delete it and it seems to be fine now. I did have a major panic as it was going on about attacks from viruses etc.

Ooooh, sounds like a Trojan. Check your google, search for something and if it comes up with other search engines then you are infected.

The only thing that sorted out my pc was malwarebytes that I downloaded for free. My own anti-virus checker told me that everything was ok when it obviously wasn't!

It's an ad basically (as far as I can see) so if you click 'ignore and proceed' or whatever it just goes to the site, if you click 'help' it gives you stacks of ads.

But the difference is that they will try to download something on your pc. And like you said, pop-ups you can usually cancel, this one doesn't go away.

Oh what a nobber, it's the hostsite at fault though.

It's sad it's happened on what should be a mumsnet at its best thread.

Downloaded the malwarebytes software which seems to have sorted it out. Thanks for your help.
