only when I've needed to ask for advice about embarrassing stuff which is ridiculous really as you're all just words on a screen/small creature inside my laptop.

I've never done it malicously(sp??)

Never ever changed mine - not even christmassy name. Plus all my personal stuff is out there too blush

But probably would change if I felt the need to protect someone elses privacy.

I've never changed mine, but seeing as I chose it because it described my pregnant bump and that bump will shortly be celebrating her 2nd birthday I think maybe I should!

Me, ..but this reminds me that I'd like to. My name is an amalgamation of my actual name and DD1's name so I could do with a decent mumsnetty name..

I never once name changed (except xmas last year, but even then it was still my name tweaked a little), until this september and that was for something very painful for me.

since then I have been havign a personality disorder and have name-changed almost daily, but I will be very very obvious about it and even sign posts as 'psycho' anyway.

many of the 'psycho' names tho are me, other than psychobabble and one other.

Me.

Only ever went on mn because a colleague told me 'It's an excellent resource to recommend to single mums'.

Couldn't imagine myself participating in an internet chat room, but 2 years later I'm still here and never bothered to change. I'm usually reasonably imaginative - always thought I should change to something like

Dai Llaffen

Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By shoedweller on Thu 02-Oct-08 10:01:49
I was thinking of name changing. I chose shoedweller thinking of the "doesn't know what to do line" because I mostly read the stuff and feel really enlightened by you lot. Someone has since pointed out that the "whips them all soundly and sends them to bed" bit isn't such a good image.

Thought about starting a blog and wanted it to be anonymous, but couldn't work out how to do a name change for it [slightly dumb emoticon].

Originally wanted my name without the 'mum' bit but it was taken. Now realise it's not a very cool name, but wtf...

My 'original' name was my actual name so I changed to this early on. Since then I have been me except for an easily identifiable pirate name. Haven't got the imagination to think of another name.

I have. I posted under a different name when my DH first told me of his alcoholism. I think that's allowed though. I would never have posted under my "real" name because I really wasn't coping well at the time.

I'd never do it for trolling purposes, I haven't the inclination or the imagination.

I only changed it once and I thought it was a fairly recognisable version of my usual name. It was a bastardized German version. But people didn't recognise me, thought I was being very rude so I just changed back. It all backfired really.

Emphasis: To bold a word, surround it with asterisks, so *hello* will display hello. For underline use _ , so _hello_ gives hello. For italics use ^, so ^hello^ gives hello. To strike out a word, surround it with two hyphens either side, so --dog-- gives dog

Links and smileys: To insert a smiley face, , type [smile] or :)
For a big grin, , type [grin] or :o
For a wink, , type [wink]
For a shocked face, , type [shock]
For an angry face, , type [angry]
For an embarrassed face, , type [blush]
For a sad face, , type [sad] or :(
For an envious face, , type [envy]
For a sceptical face, , type [hmm]

Links The simplest way to insert a link is to enter the link itself, surrounded by [[ and ]]. So if you type [[www.mumsnet.com]], the link will display as http://www.mumsnet.com. If you want your link to display text other than the web address itself, leave a space after the address then add the text before the ]]. So "Look at [[www.mumsnet.com this page]]", would display "Look at this page".
