Donate £1 for SE ASIA

KangaSantaMummy · 28/12/2004 17:57

Tech is there anyway that members can donate £1 to SE ASIA via mumsnet?

I am thinking of £1 as I realise that some families struggle with day to day finance and do not want to put pressure on them.

obviously more could be donated.

Am I correct that there are 20,000 members?

If we did it as a collective it would be lovely to think that the parents on mumsnet were helping the parents of SE ASIA and their CHILDREN
also grandparents.

could we send in cheques to you and then you collect and then send on to red cross. or could it be done by card via telephone or secure site.

That's a great idea KSM - I'm up for that.

We'll have to keep bumping this - is anyone from tech around or are they always around?

Lots of people not posting either atm.

It's been done in the past - all subs made over 2 days were donated so if you wanted to donate, you paid a "subscription" for any amount on those days.

I think we could certainly do something through our subscriptions area ie we'd donate everything given via subscription to charity for certain dates, we did the same when we collected when Michelle from Lakeland died. However, the downside of doing it through mumsnet is that as we're not a charity there'd be no way of gift aiding the donation, which means the charities would lose out if those donating were tax payers. Also as we're operating on a skeleton staff here at the mo, the turn around on getting the donations and passing them on wouldn't be immediate. So lovely as it would be to donate via mumsnet, for now at least it might be better to post the red cross link and ask everyone to donate directly to them - then those who pay tax can gift aid and we'll know it's getting through straight away. Then if folks are still keen, perhaps in the New Year we'll pick a week and publicise the fact that all subs given that week will be sent to the appeal. Does that sound OK? and if so can folks post any links they've come across where people can donate?

Thanks

thanks CarriedAwayByXmas perhaps that would be a better way of doing it because they need help now BUT they will also need help in future

would not want it to disappear and so publicity then 1 week of donations will work well

also all the mumsnetters that on here while at work can join in.

Anyone know if they accept Electron cards on the red cross website ??

I have a Visa debit card but am over my od limit at the mo so can't use it.

Dp only has an electron card.
