Thanks Justine!

Am disappointed that Alice Miles can post something so patently untrue - can't she do a bit of research before shooting her mouth off?

or maybe she doesnt understand the finer points of some of our philosophical discussions?

Brilliant article, Justine

WK007 Fri 04-May-07 23:31:30

<whispers, how are you? I was just asking about you on my thread in chat>

coppertop Fri 04-May-07 23:30:21

<waves back at WK>

GiantSquirrelSpotter Fri 04-May-07 23:29:48

Trugger you were great!

WK007 Fri 04-May-07 23:29:07

oi coppertop!! hello!! (sorry to hijack)

coppertop Fri 04-May-07 23:27:13

I was Trugger. Sorry, I couldn't resist.

littlelapin Fri 04-May-07 22:28:50

Marina - that was an excellent comment

GiantSquirrelSpotter Fri 04-May-07 20:01:55

Go Justine go!

Loved Trugger - who she?

MrsWho Fri 04-May-07 19:53:00

Well done Justine!

Did anyone here write this?

'As far as I'm aware the "Mums" in the name "Mumsnet" refers to the group of mothers who founded the site. If you saw a site called Dogsnet presumably (most?) people would realise that it wasn't actually a small pack of Jack Russell terriers and the occasional collie posting?'

Nbg Fri 04-May-07 19:31:03

Well done Justine!

CuriousSquid Fri 04-May-07 19:29:11

nice one justine

You picked a good day to tell people to look at MN. somedays it would frighten an "outsider" LOL!

Marina Fri 04-May-07 19:25:27

e-mail equivalent

Marina Fri 04-May-07 19:25:05

Alisdair has inspired me to send the e-mail of green biro and capital letters to my local councillors about traffic calming in our neighbourhood, so I should thank him really (not sure our councillors will...if Tigermoth is lurking, TM it is the tiny child Tory Goth!)

thedogsbollox Fri 04-May-07 19:21:22

Oh what a naughty girl you are Marina

Marina Fri 04-May-07 19:20:13

Go, Trugger
(I am NaughtyMarietta by the way)

Tamum Fri 04-May-07 18:42:21

Oh lololol about Trugger's post- who are you? You deserve a medal. LL, yours was great too, and actually I am quite warming to Alisdair. There are a hell of a lot of rogue apostrophes on that page though, maybe I'll start campaigning about that.

littlelapin Fri 04-May-07 14:05:37

I've pointed out to him that we are all more than just our posts here, and that we do have campaigning piece (for example, Callisto here !

cornflakegirl Fri 04-May-07 13:18:26

www - i think he's got a point - but i also feel quite intimidated by the amount of campaigning he says he does!

in defence of mumsnet - i've written to my mp a handful of times - but the most recent one was because of a link to the breastfeeding manifesto site on here...

munz Fri 04-May-07 12:46:59

fantasic post LL - is it just me who gets so fustrated with the way 'outsiders' see MN when looking in?

althou i'd love to post I don't think I have the eloquance (sp) or vocb to do MN justice.

WideWebWitch Fri 04-May-07 12:44:50

So what do we think of his response then?

<heresy> but, do we think maybe he's got a teeny point in that there is more we could all DO about the things we don't like. Or maybe that's just me, I talk about id cards etc here but don't DO much else about it and so for me, he's right, what's the point of that?

JustineMumsnet (MNHQ) Fri 04-May-07 12:37:00

Great post LL.

foxinsocks Fri 04-May-07 12:17:52

great stuff Justine. Alice Miles has obviously never visited any sites where men frequent (like football or fishing sites with chat facilites) where the most intelligent topic of conversation is most likely to be based around trying to second guess who is going to be in the starting line up or comparing the size of their rods.

And as for there not being enough female news journalists, surely that's something for her employers - and besides, I'm sure she remembers what a busy news room is like. Perhaps women are just more sensible getting out of it and going into columns and the like?!

littlelapin Fri 04-May-07 12:13:57

what a git and I made a typo, ARGH! So annoying!

Was gonna post a response to Alisdair Cameron but I notice he's already been put in his place much better than I could have done it lol.

zizou Fri 04-May-07 12:09:07

ace Justine

JackieNo Fri 04-May-07 12:08:50

ll - your comment's there now.

That is fantastic!
Go Justine

littlelapin Fri 04-May-07 11:59:30

I've posted a comment - I suppose they moderate them as it hasn't appeared yet - I told AlisdairCameron that he should be ashamed of that comment about Mile for Maude and should consider making a donation on penance

WideWebWitch Fri 04-May-07 11:43:51

Fab Justine, don't let them get away with this claptrap.

tortoiseSHELL Fri 04-May-07 11:41:01

Well done Justine!!! MNers sitting around doing nothing, I ask you!!!

littlelapin Fri 04-May-07 11:40:15

Well done Justine

Lovely comment - "Not much action either- a nice charity walk on behalf of a bereaved member of the club is nit quite using FoI to uncover cok-ups, let alone active protest. Let's face it, it's not exactly Greenham Common stuff." What a tosser

Marina Fri 04-May-07 11:11:10

Nice one Justine
Alice Miles

piglit Fri 04-May-07 11:07:39

Nice work Justine. I have ishoos with Alice Miles (can she even spell research?) and I thought your comments were spot on.

munz Fri 04-May-07 10:57:52

justine invite him on for a chat - we'll give him what for! lol.

agree thou wiht you.

Tamum Fri 04-May-07 10:57:25

Gosh what an erudite and well thought out argument there from Steve.

Well done though Justine, good piece.

Carmenere Fri 04-May-07 10:57:15

Stevekingofthenewts, I would just LOVE to see him here for a chat

And Justine you are right. We all know for a fact that researchers and journalist for most magazine programmes regularly plunder the threads of mn for inspiration.

oranges Fri 04-May-07 10:55:31

What are we meant to do when being online? Dancing a jig?

That Stevo blogger clearly hasn't read anything more than the top and the bottom of J's piece!

ChippyMinton Fri 04-May-07 10:54:57

Do journos not sit on their backsides then, whilst changing the world?

coppertop Fri 04-May-07 10:54:06

Fantastic, Justine!

meto Fri 04-May-07 10:53:58

that man - bloody cheek. how rude.

JackieNo Fri 04-May-07 10:52:47

Oooh - some controversial stuff.

WendyWeber Fri 04-May-07 10:52:18

The first comment made me laugh (as I sit on my backside )

hatwoman Fri 04-May-07 10:51:54

nice one Justine. I think the thing about it not happening round at there place anymore is so spot on!

oranges Fri 04-May-07 10:51:38

I wondered how long before you did.

nickytwotimes Fri 04-May-07 10:51:31

like your blog!
you probably will get a pasting though.....
never mind - we love you!

ChippyMinton Fri 04-May-07 10:50:57

Go Justine! We know these meeja types are endlessly plundering MN for their columns.

JustineMumsnet (MNHQ) Fri 04-May-07 10:46:39

and thought you might be interested. It's here . Have a feeling I'm going to take a pasting...
