why the pop up ads in threads?

I may be behind the times but why are we now getting 'threads' (ads) in the middle of threads? Not content with ads running across the top and side of the screen, there are now ads in the actual threads.

You're not the only one, I thought my iPad was glitching. Very annoying.

Theres a great big thread about it in site stuff "native ads".

Several of us have, in desperation, resorted to installing Adblock Plus to get rid of the ads.
