Morning all,

Early this morning we released an update for our iOS Talk app and thought we'd give you a heads-up about it.

There is now a search function so you can now search every thread on Mumsnet Talk from within the app.

This update also includes bug fixes for a number of issues that were reported by you - thanks for your feedback.

Let us know what you think and thanks for all of you feedback so far.

It's not showing as an update on my phone yet but thanks for the update. Search function will be very useful Flowers

Bitoutofpractise - if you check the App Store now, it should be available as an update. It won't happen automatically unless you've got your phone plugged in (I believe).

I take it that there's no filter for the search? (Board, date etc.)

poppopp · 10/10/2016 21:07

Since the new update my "watched" threads don't appear in bold when there are new posts on them.

There seems to be a problem with all threads in showing new posts with some distinguishing factor. Sometimes they do and sometimes they don't. (More often they don't.) I sense there's a pattern but it's not jumping out at me right away.

Sorry, popp. I should have clarified that it's doing it for me on threads I haven't put on Watch.

Report
acatcalledjohn · 10/10/2016 23:08

Same for me, current threads don't highlight new posts at all, but all my old and read watched threads show as though there are new posts on those when that clearly isn't the case.

acat

Could that be due to the update though? (Anything prior to that seems to show as unread for me - until I go into it.)

Report
cozietoesie · 10/10/2016 23:57

Sorry - that refers to the latter point you made.

Mine looks as though all my threads I'm on and watched threads have new posts, but obviously they don't.

acatcalledjohn · 11/10/2016 08:45

cozie, yes, this only happened when it updated. It worked fine before then.

cozietoesie · 11/10/2016 09:04

HSM

Might those just be the ones you happen to have checked?

Report
HSMMaCM · 11/10/2016 09:21

Checked them all. When I went back in, this thread appeared to have no new posts.

Report
cozietoesie · 11/10/2016 10:21

With me, it seems to be:

Immediately post loading update - everything starts afresh as if I'd never used MN. All threads look unopened/with new posts even if they're not.

Since then. If I've opened a thread/read/posted etc it loses all 'new activity' identifiers even when someone else posts. (It moves up the page or the number of posts will change but clocking those will depend on how good a memory you have.)

Report
LIZS · 11/10/2016 10:27

Yes, the highlight showing which threads have posts since last read has disappeared.

Report
cozietoesie · 11/10/2016 10:38

Or as LIZS put it. (Much more succinctly! Grin)

Watched threads
Hey guys, thanks for raising the issue with watched threads - I had to re-write quite a messy bit of code that was causing a crash in the app, and it appears I missed out some key functionality.

We have a fix coming shortly that should clear this up.

Crashing

The vast majority of crashing-bugs left in the app are caused by a bug in the adverts. Google (who write the code behind this bug) have released a fix recently that I'm going to implement and release as soon as possible.

Again, because it's not been possible to reproduce this bug, it's more difficult to 100% guarantee, so we really appreciate your patience!

cozietoesie · 11/10/2016 13:49

Gosh. Google let some buggy code through?

Report
TimMumsnet · 11/10/2016 17:03

Yeah, even from google, code with bugs is quite normal! It's only unusual in that it crashes so often.

We've had around 300 since launching the app yesterday, so it's understandably irritating...

cozietoesie · 11/10/2016 18:26

But to let it through? And with a team of coders who could presumably fill Yankee stadium? Gosh. Wink

I could have sworn the other day I saw my pm's box on the app! Have I dreamt that?

TimMumsnet with the new app I have a problem where someone will add to the thread "I'm on" but the colour won't change to white. I only know someone has added to it because the threads change order and the number counter increases for each thread.

Report
TimMumsnet · 12/10/2016 07:47

Cozietosie yes that's true, but they also have a massive number of products! This is one small part of a lot of code they've written. So it's probably only a handful of developers working on it.

Also, it's rather hard to simulate what it's like for thousands of users use your code...
