Betting ads, really not in the spirit of MN

I really, really want to express my revulsion at adverts for 'betfair' and 'casumo:a casino' appearing on MN.

These are appearing on threads where people with emotional and mental health difficulties are posting, with lots of posters in very vulnerable positions, on threads discussing poverty, PND, and suicide FFS!

It's disgusting.

I think MN have responsibility to have a duty of care for its posters that may not have the wherewithal at present to make sound financial decisions. People should be protected from predatory companies like these that increase the suffering of the vulnerable.

Definitely not in the spirit of 'by parents, for parents'.

There have been a lot of issues recently with the ad content on MN. I really think it's time to scrutinise the company you're working with more carefully.

I wholeheartedly agree. Making money from gambling is up there with selling tobacco.

Is it acceptable that there are constant porn adverts popping up to??

Queenbean- there's a v long running separate thread about that, that I have contributed to.
MN keep trying to sort it, but that's more of a dodgy people hijacking the ad provider rather than an actual MN ad provider supporting completely unethical companies IYSWIM.
Semantics, maybe, but it's a slightly different issue.

I agree not the best idea they ever had...

I thought the ads that appeared were related to what you have been looking at on the internet?

Well, not unless I've also looked at contact lenses, Mercedes, and tesco?
really havent

I abhor gambling in all forms. Don't even do sweepstakes at work for Olympics etc.

There's another now too, buy per view.
These companies are just trying to fleece people that are vulnerable.

Yep I know. Just pointing out that their whole approach to ads / lack of control over other ads could do with a once over

I bet (if you'll excuse the pun) that these ads are on the AdChoices spaces, so the individual companies themselves are not actually directly paying for advertising on MN.

MNHQ will chase down and block these ads - or they have done in the past.
