Zombie threads

Isn't there a way to turn off comments on zombie threads? I've seen a couple crop up today and it's just so pointless dredging up old threads.

Of course it makes sense if people can still search for old threads and read the wise comments of MNers over the years, but why can't you close the thread for comments? I am on a couple of FB pages where the admins stop comments if the post is irrelevant, it just makes sense.

BTW I have checked old threads to see if this issue has already been covered but didn't post on them because they were zombies Grin

Even when you post that it is a zombie posters just keep on doing it. It's usually a spammer that starts it.

I don't get the angst about zombie threads.

Maybe an alert as you hit post 'are you sure you want to reopen this thread' as well as the banner at the top would help people doing it in error.
But like Buzzard said it's mainly spammers who do the first and people follow in error as that thread enters active / moves to the top of that particular board. So it would be a case of how far back does the alert go - one post, 5?

On another forum I use, if you post on a thread that's not on the front page of its section and has been inactive for 30 days, a picture of a necromancer comes up.

(There are also specific sections of that forum where that feature is turned off, because the thread is specifically meant for long-term feedback.)

Unless they've fixed it real recently, there's no zombie alert on the app - as there's no block on eg posting past 1000 posts. People may be using the app and not realise.
