App keeps crashing/shutting down

Anyone else using the app having this problem? I'll be in the middle of a thread reading and the app will just close itself down, when I re-open the app it goes back to the start up page (can't think how else to describe it) I then have to find the thread I was reading and where I was in it! Can be very annoying especially if you've found something via active and it's no longer in there!

Help please!?

I've had this quite a few times as well. I've tried to work out if there's a pattern to it but haven't found one so far.

Sorry about this. OP could you let us know what device you're using? We'll give that info to Tech and see if they have any ideas.

Yes,I've had this all day today too. I'm using the app on an iPhone (iOS 9.3.4).

Hey guys, thanks for flagging this, it certainly shouldn't be doing that!

I haven't seen a crash (unexpectedly quitting) on the most recent build so a few questions:

  • Are you using the most recent version on the App Store? (I have to check...)
  • When the crash occurs, is the thread you're viewing bookmarked?
  • How far down the thread do you usually get when it crashes?

I suspect to do with the way we load adverts, but I could be wrong...

  • Yes
  • I don't think so
  • If my memory serves, reasonably far in - maybe 10 or 12 posts.

I'll try to remember if it happens again.

Yes

No, it reloads back to the home page.

  • How far down the thread do you usually get when it crashes?

It's happening when I'm writing posts as well as when I'm scrolling down the thread. I'd say it's about 10 to 12 posts in if it crashes when I'm just reading the thread.

Ok, so, a bit more detail. It just crashed when I was reading a thread in AIBU called "to insist on DD being called the right name...". It crashed just as I was on the 6th post which was the one just above the advert.

The trouble is that unlike previously, it's only happening sporadically for me - so half the time, I won't remember. Maybe it is six posts in............Smile

Yes, from what I can see I am. Version 3.3.3 no option to update on my App Store

  • When the crash occurs, is the thread you're viewing bookmarked?

Not that I'm aware of, goes back to the start up screen
  • How far down the thread do you usually get when it crashes?

Haven't a clue but I'll try and remember and let you know next time it happens

Ah. It just crashed - and I wasn't even in a thread. About a dozen threads down on the Chat board just looking at thread titles.

Sorry to be difficult. Grin

Just did it to me whilst looking through the active section at thread titles probably half-3/4 of the way down

To add - I was looking at thread titles in the app so it's a little difficult to remember precise placing, there being one continuous stream.

And again whilst reading the asda pizza rage thread, about 5-6 posts in.

I've had a crash today. I can't see a pattern yet, I fear.

Crashed on my iPhone, iOS & app both up to date.
Not a bookmarked thread, got about 15-20 posts in then crashed.

Just had another crash. Tends to happen to me on threads I haven't read before, and doesn't leave me time to add to watchlist. Most annoying because they tend to not be in active threads when I re-launch the app.

I have the latest version according to AppStore, I get approx 10 posts in if I'm lucky, and never as far as bookmarking posts.

Report
acatcalledjohn · 21/08/2016 17:09

I should add that mine has only ever crashed in a thread, never when just browsing on a board or in most active.

Latest update on iPhone and it crashes at random times. Sometimes halfway through a thread, sometimes just as I open it. Not bookmarked.
