I have reported this thread a number of times and it has been up for hours - please can you delete it now! This is ridiculous

You guys need to figure out a more effective reporting system because this sucks balls!

I just cannot comprehend how difficult it is to delete a thread? They've emailed me to say they are looking at it but yet it's still there??!!? The mind boggles

I am starting to think whether MNHQ really take racism seriously - like the post about Serena Williams was allowed to stay up for hours..... hmmmm

Hi Duchess,

Thanks for this and apologies for taking a while to get to you.

We have zapped this thread now.

This is the deletion message:

Hi all,

When this thread was reported earlier, we decided to leave it up as although the OP was offensive, we felt that the discussion that followed was interesting and informative and educational for the OP.

However, we can see that the OP has continued in the same vein rather than being open to a discussion and we think it's time to pull the plug.

Racist posts are against the Talk guidelines and we feel that this has now tipped over into just plain nastiness.

Message from MNHQ: Hi all,

There are no words MNHQ Angry I am so glad you found other posters offense a learning exercise for a clearly ignorant poster

We'll done

I find your deletion message offensive to... it reads that clearly the discomfort of some of your posters does not trump good conversation.

Glad to know where us minority posters stand MNHQ!

Hi Duchess,

We never want to cause any upset but we have found that sometimes when someone posts from a naive or ignorant standpoint, it is better to allow the conversation to flow so that others can explain why the OP is ignorant. Sometimes it is helpful and the OP realises that they've been a dick they are ignorant but sadly, this was not one of those occasions.

We're really sorry that this one didn't turn around, we do not in anyway condone racist comments and we will and do remove them.

Apologies for any upset caused, it really isn't ever our intention.

CrazyDuchess · 22/07/2016 21:38

I am sorry - not good enough.

Third time I've reported posts like this and you've allowed them to run.

I have no idea who the hell you are trying to educate but you take more effort with dealing with trans and disablist posts the same should apply to the very clearly racist posts.

we do not in anyway condone racist comments yes you do as you have clearly shown by your deletion message. You accepted a racist post in the ridiculous hope in education of an ignorant and racist poster - WHO HAD FORM!

She had previously posted on an earlier post deleted as again she was attacking black people - what the hell did you think she was going to learn?

But clearly if you MNHQ find it acceptable this clearly isn't the place for me

Sorry Duchess.

We really do not find it acceptable and we really did not want to cause anyone any upset.

We do totally take your points on board and apologise that we weren't quicker off the mark.

I 100% agree with you Duchess, in fact I came over here to make a similar post. There was a thread about one of the greatest tennis athletes having an adam's apple that was allowed to stand on a similar dubious basis.

Racism on Mumsnet is rife but HQ seem to treat it as 'an interesting discussion'. Why is that so? If someone posted saying children with ADHD just need a telling off then HQ would delete that within seconds! Why are ethnic minorities fair game for targeting? This isn't a one off! I've been around long enough to see it. You should be ashamed of yourselves!

But you are never quicker off the mark when it comes to racist posts. Never!

RedHareWithBlondeHair · 22/07/2016 22:02

And just to add, before HQ deleted the whole thread, they'd spent their time deleting posts from people that were angry with the racist undertones of that thread! WTF!??

Thank you Redhare exactly what I was getting at!

What has really upset me has been MNHQ's response.... overt racism like the OP in question is disgusting... but this subtle reminder that we are fair game has just ruined the whole site for me.

If people genuinely want to learn or be educated about racial difficulties or differences, then they ask a question.

The OP was clearly goady from the start. Not to mention already having been reported on a previously racist post!

I have no idea who MNHQ thought they were educating, but I learnt that it's not a safe space for minorities!

RedHareWithBlondeHair · 22/07/2016 22:34

Duchess You are so right wrt it's not a safe space for minorities!

It just isn't. And HQ are always on the back burner with this. I don't know if I should laugh or cry!

Despite the vitriol targeted at Trans women they're certainly much more revered than black/ethnic women on here. Why are we treated as second class citizens?

Vixxfacee · 22/07/2016 22:39

I agree and have seen it many times on this site. Every time I read a thread related to race it often goes the same way.

Don't even get me started on the Islamaphobia Angry

One poster had the N word all over the place - even asked me whether I let my children call me that... and it went on forever!

"Oh sorry we should have seen it sooner...."

..... starting to see a pattern? As for That disgusting Serena post... again all for the hopes of educating people!

Funny how racism is allowed to stand under the guise of "education" will remember that Hmm

Duchess I remember that thread. It starts off by a troll but then you see posters true colours as they start agreeing.

CrazyDuchess · 22/07/2016 22:43

Exactly Vixx that post was NEVER going to end well... never! It should have been shut down the second the first post was reported - not left for hours as a Blue Peter exercise Angry like we are on display in a fucking zoo

OP posts:

CrazyDuchess · 22/07/2016 22:44

That post alone Vixx horrified me.

Although MNHQ when investigating saw she was sockpuppeting.

Hours and pages the abuse when on. I was seriously depressed by the end of that!
