About the terrorist attack in Nice?

There are some very unpleasant, racist and anti Islam posts on there which will do damage to the community of MN and cause more problems in the face of such a tragedy. I do not think many of them should be allowed to stand.

I've not had any responses to my emails about the thread.

I was on the thread the night it happened and it was a nice kind hearted thread full of well wishers for France but yesterday I had to hide the thread due to a small few and the comments they were making

NeedACleverNN · 16/07/2016 12:00

I've just reported it again. It's getting too close to the bone and it must be offensive to Muslims and disrespectful to the victims and their families

Hi Lottie,

We're taking a look at the reports about that thread right now. We have already deleted a number of posts which you reported - you should have received an automated response to these reports under the new system detailed on this thread. Do please check for our emails.

We'll continue to remove any posts which we feel cross the line so please continue to report. We're also checking out a number of posters behind the scenes - if we think people have joined the site in order to post inflammatory messages, we'll take action.

We're trying to tread a fine here - please bear with us.

Yes, it is offending Muslim mners - I had a PM from someone this morning.

There shouldn't be any debate about it. There is nothing to debate and it is absolutely not acceptable to allow hate speech to stand and then accuse others pointing that out that they don't care about the victims of the attack. I'm disgusted. It was like reading daftpunks posts. A few of those posters are GFs I think but they are doing damage to the MN community.

I have hidden it because it makes me mad and will bring out the worst in me. I think it's a very ugly thread and needs deleting personally.

X posts - thank you Dawn. I won't be looking at the thread again because it brings out the worst in me. But I am glad it is being addressed.

As a Muslim, I feel terrible and horrified that yet another barbaric act by a deranged person is being pointed at Islam.
We should all be condemning this act and joining the French and all people in the world who are victims of Daesh.
It is therefore sad that a thread that was meant to show sympathy has descended into open warfare against Muslims!
It is offensive.
I have tried to contribute but I'm drained mentally by the harsh response received.
Please MN what do we have to do to make you understand?- please delete.

I have been on mumsnet together with a few of my friends (sharing a desk top) and coming on here to learn and share views.
Today has shown how we Muslims are vilified, misunderstood and hated for no fault of our own other than defending and practicing our faith.
The bashing has gone on for too long.
I asked MN to delete the thread as it has turned into muslim bashing, to no avail.
So sadly, we are leaving this forum.
Which is sad as there are quite a few good people here but even us can not take this anymore.
We shall continue to pray for the victims of extremism , in Syria, Somalia, Nigeria, Kenya, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq and of course France.

Lailalee/Maisha xx

PS: A true Muslim DOES NOT kill innocent people.

Oh Laila that's such a shame Sad I don't blame you at all for feeling that way but mnhq has said to me that they are investigating who those posters actually are to see if they deliberately came on to stir trouble.

I think it would be a shame if you left - so many of us on MN don't think that way. I'm sorry you had to read those nasty postings Flowers

Ladies I reported that thread. It made me angry as I know the person in Nice doesn't speak for all Muslim people. I have my faith you have yours, they are a bit different but we are still people with feelings.
Please don't think all Mners are against you. I am not!

Report
NeedACleverNN · 16/07/2016 17:42

I have no issues against Muslims either.

It's the person not the faith

Report
OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/07/2016 17:44

I reported the thread too. I was horrified by some of the comments left to stand.

Report
PortiaCastis · 16/07/2016 17:49

Yes I was horrified too.
Why oh why does anyone's faith matter.
The person not the faith is a very good mantra which I hope we all adopt.

Report
BestIsWest · 16/07/2016 17:53

Also horrified and had to stop reading that thread.

Report
Lottielou7 · 16/07/2016 17:58

I hid it because it was obvious to me that some people were getting a rise out of stirring trouble. The problem is that these people might even be kids for all we know. I ended up not being able to post reasonable responses because I was so angry and so I'm not going to look at it again. Not to mention that the best thing is for it to die a death so that people won't read it.

The referendum has brought out some very ugly and nasty attitudes and I'm furious about it.

We have to show that Mn is for everyone
How about it MNHQ lets have some sort of sticky or banner or anything saying
The person not the faith

There are some very ugly views on that thread.

Report
AnyFucker · 16/07/2016 18:04

Laila. ..those goady fuckers do not speak in my name.

Please do not think that a small minority have the prevailing view. I am sorry it looks like they have a loud voice right now. But I am also, as a white non religious person, offended mightily by some of the views on that thread.

Report
PortiaCastis · 16/07/2016 18:06

Yes really ugly views and it's making Mners leave the site

Report
BeenThereDoneThatForgotten · 16/07/2016 18:12

I too was horrified by the way that thread went. I have many Muslim friends and they feel pain when these attacks take place and worry for their children due to the seemingly innumerable racists that appear each time.

Report
OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/07/2016 18:17

I've just been back, I hadn't been there since yesterday.
How is this stuff still standing? Mn, please you have to sort this out. You need to look at your policies and your reporting system and stamp these comments out quickly - they are like sparks, too many, left too long and you won't be able to stamp them out.

I'm on that thread. Have not posted recently though. I do not agree that it should be deleted. It's rigorous debate and a very informative thread and should be left to stand. It's not ideal that people have felt that they had to leave over it but that happens every day on MN over far less controversial matters. It's discussion and it should not be shut down. Alongside the unpleasantness people are being educated. Without extensive discussion and debate ignorance will continue to prevail, it makes no sense at all to delete that thread.
