If not and we suspect sock puppetry, do we report it or what?

NiceViper Wed 22-Jun-16 21:48:02

Yes, report it.

Sock puppeting is not allowed, and should be deleted.

Using more than one name on a thread (especially a long one) isn't necessarilty sock-puppeting tho.

PUGaLUGS Wed 22-Jun-16 21:57:48

Definitely not allowed. Report!

Felascloak Wed 22-Jun-16 22:00:46

Ok thank you

SanityClause Wed 22-Jun-16 22:01:11

Sock puppeting is not allowed, but sometimes people change name during a thread, which is fine, if it's clear that the two names belong to the same poster.

NeedACleverNN Wed 22-Jun-16 22:02:04

What's sock puppetry?

Is it where one poster pretends to be more than one person?

MöbiusStripClub Wed 22-Jun-16 22:03:37

What SanityClause said.

She's always so wise and just wonderful. I think she's the best poster on the whole of mumsnet, really.

SanityClause Wed 22-Jun-16 22:04:08

Felascloak Wed 22-Jun-16 22:06:19

SanityClause Wed 22-Jun-16 22:48:25

I've never used it before.

I thought of it, once, and had to register it, but today is its first outing.

Cool, eh!

DonkeyOaty Wed 22-Jun-16 22:52:15

VERY cool

OhGoToSleepPlease Wed 22-Jun-16 22:52:25

I've done it by accident a couple of times. In fact one tonight. Nothing horrible or goady or anything. Just that I tend to post via a few names as I know there are people on here that I'd prefer not to "find" me and when posting a reply on s thread forgot who I was.
(I have very few un, I'm not talking 20 & filling up a thread)

Genuine error though MNHQ. Promise halo

Genuine error = fine. smile. We turn a blind eye to that sort of thing; it's just when someone's being deliberately misleading that we step in.

PolitelyDisagree Thu 23-Jun-16 01:03:38

I name change all the time so I often end up posting on a thread under different names. Even though I do I wouldn't mind if MNHQ put something in place to stop it. I can't see why there is a need to be able to do it. unless you are to lazy to change back like me

Jasonandyawegunorts Thu 23-Jun-16 08:07:03

I agree there should be ccode in place to stop it, One name per thread, there is no need to have more than one name on a thread.

NeedACleverNN Thu 23-Jun-16 08:11:37

Could someone please clarify what sock puppeting is?

Jasonandyawegunorts Thu 23-Jun-16 08:12:59

Yes, it's when someone name changes or has another account which they use to agree (Or sometimes argue with themselves)

Jasonsfinesockpuppet Thu 23-Jun-16 08:14:56

What a brilliant explaination Jason, you sir are always just slightly more brilliant than the rest of the posters.

Jasonandyawegunorts Thu 23-Jun-16 08:16:28

Why blush thank you, Jason.
