Has AIBU had its day?

Personally I think it needs to go. So many people post serious issues in there without realising the type of poster it attracts. It attracts trolls and some pretty vile posters who rip people to shreds because it has been deemed an acceptable behaviour on that part of the discussion boards. I imagine MNHQ spend far more time than is desirable responding to reports on posts in AIBU.

If it remains OP's need to be be more heavily moderated not just to avoid trolling but to protect vulnerable posters. There is an active thread where someone in the midst of a mental health crisis is being torn to pieces, it's disgusting

It's the most popular part of the site though, and so is a revenue generator. It will never go.

I agree with you, though, and I think some of the people who post there (especially the ones who never venture out of there) are deeply unpleasant individuals.

I agree too. I have had my arse handed to me a few times there over the years, but by people who genuinely disagreed with me, not by GF's just spoiling for a fight. I don't recognise it anymore.

It needs to stay.

At least its keeping the wankface's contained to one area? On the plus side?

I'd like to see it go, if only to stop people posting everything in AIBU, and to start using the rest of the boards.

I enjoy AIBU as a spectator sport sometimes, but I hate it when a genuinely upsetting issue gets posted in there and the knives come out. I think it would be better if there was more pro-action to get threads out of there and into the right place.

I also think there is no point in keeping AIBU threads in the archive. If they become really enjoyable for all the right reasons, then they can go to Classics. If they are genuinely helpful, they should get moved to the right zone of the site. Otherwise they should be like Chat, and vanish after 90 days.

It's one of my favourite parts of the site for wasting time on.

MNHQ are using it purely for their own wank-fodder though.

It's horrible
I don't post that much tbh, but I log in some days and don't post at all as it irritates and upsets me so much and I'm no special snowflake
People seem so black and white on there and the lack of empathy/understanding/emotional intelligence is shocking
It's all very well for people to have perfect and comfortable lives, but maybe they should enjoy them rather than concentrating their energy on being nasty to other people because they are down on their luck. Shit can happen to anyone
The trivial whinging gets on my tits as well, you know get a grip and say what your grievance is to that person or just give it up as a bad job
I'm a bit intolerant atm though.

I do think some people are harsher than they would be on other boards and I think it creates a mob mentality. Very often the first two or three posts set the tone for the whole thread. Occasionally the first one or two responders will be kind and reasonable posters which tends I lead to everyone being a bit kinder and harsher posters get stamped on pretty quickly but generally a thread that starts out nasty snowballs and brings out the worst of the worst.

i think the problem is there are SO many topics on here now people just use AIBU for traffic because they no it will stay in active convos. the talk board needs streamlining in general IMHO
