namechange before they post a new thread.

Because I'm getting confused. There are so many people with UserName in their UserName that I'm in danger of being extremely rude to one of them mixing them up and thinking a new one is an old one or a previously banned one.

I am old and confused.

I think they have to take the name allocated to them when they register, for some reason, but could they not be auto-sked to namechange before posting? Pretty please.

insan1tyscartching Thu 09-Jun-16 14:32:59

Me too smileit's really confusing confused

MangoBiscuit Thu 09-Jun-16 14:34:18

I see UserNameblahblahblah and just read it as "anonymous", as if the user hasn't fully registered.

Emochild Thu 09-Jun-16 14:35:52

I care, I can't keep up!

Vote for forced name change

Yes, the number is too long to not get muddled up!

LaserShark Thu 09-Jun-16 14:39:39

I reported one because I got it mixed up with a troll with an almost identical name. It's confusing and there suddenly seem to be so many of them, I don't know why.

LaConnerie Thu 09-Jun-16 14:40:58

I don't get why it matters. If I post on the thread I just direct my post at the OP, and don't take much notice of what their name is. Why do they have to have a specific one? The internet is anonymous anyway whether you're blahblah12345 or bevsstinkygstring...

deVelvet Thu 09-Jun-16 14:41:25

Complete non-isse in my opinion.

It's not about the name, it's about the content of which they are posting about

LaConnerie Thu 09-Jun-16 14:42:43

Ah but deVelvet I get the feeling that for some posters it's all about the name wink

LucyInTheSkyWithDonuts Thu 09-Jun-16 14:43:25

It is an issue - if this board is for conversation it's nice to know who you are talking to....

LucyInTheSkyWithDonuts Thu 09-Jun-16 14:44:37

Oh and don't start with the Mumsnet royalty crap either....

MTPurse Thu 09-Jun-16 14:45:27

I couldn't agree more. It is utterly confusing, I thought UserBlahBlah was one person, I didn't take much notice of the numbers. It wasn't till i read a thread yesterday that I realised. It is confusing for readers but also not fair on the Userblahblahs getting called a troll as people are getting confused.

TheoriginalLEM Thu 09-Jun-16 14:45:50

tbh if i see numbers i think troll

LaConnerie Thu 09-Jun-16 14:46:17

lucy Do calm down dear smile

deVelvet Thu 09-Jun-16 14:47:54

yes, you are talking to Username958562325blahblahblah

In anycase, what is in a name? A rose by any other name would still smell as sweet (or some other such bollocks)

Thisismyalias Thu 09-Jun-16 14:48:15

Wasn't there a thread ages ago that said that user12456754323 names were an error. Or am I making that up?

deVelvet Thu 09-Jun-16 14:49:27

Seriously Lucy? confused

Was I on track to bring up royalty? I am royalty ffs wink

Maryz Thu 09-Jun-16 15:01:56

It's mainly an issue to do with pbp's though.

There have been a dozen or so (that I've seen) posters with "username" in their name rebanned in the last couple of weeks.

Also, it's hard to know who is the op (and their sockies) if everyone has the same name.

I don't care who I talk to. I do care if I think I'm talking to A (or reporting them) and really it's B. Because it's very unfair on genuine new posters when the look so much like yesterday's troll.

FancyPuffin Thu 09-Jun-16 15:04:46

Yes!

It's too confusing. Plus it's making it much easier to troll I think.

PatriciaHolm Thu 09-Jun-16 15:07:17

Yep, it's really confusing and annoying. It also makes me immediately think they have either reregistered to be annoying/troll, or are a journalist.

Cherylene Thu 09-Jun-16 15:08:06

TBH, I can't cope with many of the names, memorywise.

But a row of numbers is just a blurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr before you even start.
