Further update to Talk font

JustineMumsnet · 17/05/2016 15:23

Hi folks,
Following a further round of user testing we are going to make another slight adjustment to the font on desktop Talk (no change to mobile). We are using Roboto font. It was size 14px and weight of 300. We’re going to increase it slightly to 15px and weight of 400 to make it slightly more readable. Plus we are very slightly increasing the line to make it feel just a little less cramped.

Obviously any change takes a wee while to get used to - and we're sorry to inflict more on you - but hopefully you'll get used to it very quickly and agree with the majority of testers that it's an improvement overall.

Do let us know if you have any problems - should be released in the next wee while.

no real problem with the size - a bit 'spaced out' for me but okay. Bit it is very jerky whilst scrolling up and down. And once again a time lapse on typing in the message box . On Macbook and chrome

The immediate difference was that the typeface changes might be OK but could you PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE do something about the contrast?

The leading etc was probably fine - I said so in the original thread. As an ex typeface designer and digitiser I said that the typeface was fine, the leading was fine, but the contrast is not.

Now looking at Threads I Am On the typeface actually looks smaller and the leading is really too deep... far too much space for a compact typeface. It looks lost... and fuzzy.

This thread looks fine (bigger than before) but my watched threads have shrunk in the last couple of hours and much harder to read - why aren't all threads the same size

eatyourveg · 17/05/2016 16:06

just checked the individual threads from my watch list and they are better but the list of watched threads with the latest replies is too small and the threads list under the sections is now too spread out/gappy

Yes watched isn't right - we're looking at it.

and having had everything on 110% since the change, i just switched back to 100%

The names of the posters is small. The text in this box is huge..

You really need to sort this out!

MTPurse most (not all) said it was easier - sorry if you were one of those who didn't agree. But "I'm on" and "Watched" threads not quite right at the moment - so hopefully will be a bit better when they are sorted.

Will you be changing the background colour a little, to stop the slight fuzziness?

It doesn't have to be a colour change... but it is quite a bit brighter than it has to be.

Woah, this is odd. Too many different font sizes!

It feels like having one of those dreams where your body is really small but your hand are huge.

Is it only me that has jerky scrolling and time lapse typing?

Report

You know, I thought some people were being a tad dramatic when they complained of headaches with the first font change but I totally understand now.

Ow.

It all looks fine and readable to me, except everyone's NNs look smaller and a bit blurry.

Thanks bookbook, it might take a little while (minutes not hours) to roll out. If it's still happening after a short time can you give us a nudge?

the actual post text is fine, much better and i no longer need to 110% it.

its that there are so many different sizes.

The name size and the size in TIO needs increasing.

The size of the text as you type in the message box needs bringing down a little.

oh no! Sad Please don't feel like the testing was a waste of time we had some really interesting and varied feedback (not just on fonts) and we'll be looking going over it all very carefully.

It has been incredible valuable and a massive thank you to all who took part.

Which active bit are you talking about Samcro so we can see what's up?

MistressMerryWeather · 17/05/2016 16:53

Do you have yours zoomed in at all Samcro?

I do, maybe that's a problem.

Start, flip and refresh are noticeably bigger than watch or hide. Unless that's intentional?
