Yeah replace the stupid grin one with it preferably.

It's true that the stupid grin one is a bit stupid.....

MNHQ, how about turning all the non-MN emojis back off?

Report
BertieBotts · 10/05/2016 14:29

No thanks. It's one of my most hated emojis. The skelegrin is fine. Just use the emoji one if you desperately want an alternative?

PotOfYoghurt · 10/05/2016 14:53

Ugh I hate it. I don't know why, and it's probably irrational but it's the one I dislike the most.

I can understand how the 😂 can be annoying but the fact remains that it seems to be very widely used by Mumsnetters.

If it reduces the need for posters to declare that they .... are literally crying with laughter or that they have ... literally just spat tea over the keyboard then that can't be a bad thing, can it?

It's not that widely used. I don't see many people using it at all unless they are new.

I'd rather read cliched descriptions myself, sorry. And it's not often that anybody really cries with laughter anyway, so the big grin is better. I think it puts across exactly the same sentiment in a more MN like way.

And PLEASE no heart eyes or smug punchable closed-eye smile emoticon.

Report
paxillin · 10/05/2016 18:13

I have never cried with laughter at a mn thread. I'd prefer a gin emoticon.

I think there's a queue for new smileys (the Archers lot are in front I reckon)
I love Grin and am always really gutted when i am Shock elsewhere on the inter webs and can't use it.

Grin is like a baffled buffoon

That other one is ubiquitous and noone likes that

I really dislike non-MN emojis, and they bugger up the list in active convos if used in thread titles.

I just thought it was a variation of Sad not an expansion of Grin because if the way this device displays.

And generally I prefer words

I've noticed that the newer emoticons are all vector-y and smooth and aren't as pixelly as the old ones. I don't mind that so much for the wine, flowers etc but it irrationally annoys me that the halo doesn't match the other faces!

Would be idly curious to know how the first lot were made. IIRC it was only :) Grin Wink Shock Hmm Blush Angry :( and Envy to begin with. I remember Confused being added later and yet it matches.

I am envisaging one of the first Techs drawing them in Paint... but I could be wrong!

I like the pixelly emoticons, they are far clearer, and "pop" more from the page.

Report
SilverBirchWithout · 10/05/2016 23:34

No please not.

I do loathe any reference to crying with laughter, spitting tea out, wetting oneself or being unable to breathe due to a mild witticism from another poster.

Anything that makes it easier is a dangerous downward slope Sad
