I would like to opt out of all the 'junk' ads.and just be able to opt into a MN 'basic service' where all I can see is the threads..

Loading all those adverts is making it so slow and frustrating.. Also im pretty sure all the 'unresponsive script' messages are just coming from ads trying to load.. ..especially the 'movie' ones

Quite frankly I'll never buy anything or click on anything in those boxes .. I just want to see the messages!

.. (and yes i know MN want to have the ad revenue, but what is the point if its just pssng people off so much they go elsewhere? )

I have an adblocker on the laptop and never see an ad at all.

Are you on the mobile site?

I thought my phone was magic because everytime I googled something an advert for it would appear on mumsnet - it took me ages to realize it happens to everyone.

and when it finally loads.. i'll answer.. (sigh)

No sparkling am on a laptop.. I admit have a bit of a distrust of downloading stuff of internet (even an ad blocker..) . that why i'd like an opt out to a simpler Mn site..

I was a bit wary but it's been fine and works a treat. Not a single ad.

How would you contribute to the running of this free MN site Laska?

For the BBC you pay a licence fee. Mumsnet has no equivalent.

voyage yes fair point, .. but I am old and wary! Do you have any adblocker suggestions?

Isnt anyone else having trouble with the time it takes MN to load?. My Pc (laptop) updates (and everything else) is up to date (though I am still running Windows7)

The way many sites operate is that the basic service is the one with adverts, while there is a premium service which is ad free, as you pay for it.

I can't check which one I have on the laptop as I am on my phone but it tells you on each page how many ads it's blocking. V satisfying. Grin

I'm having this problem a lot on my phone (mobile site) there doesn't seem to be an adblocker for my browser so I'm screwed.

I'm tempted to get ad blockers too. It's a shame when the ads get so intrusive that it makes you feel like that.

Report
Sparklingbrook · 15/04/2016 08:18

I am back on the laptop and my adblock is imaginatively named 'AdBlock'. Grin It tells me on this page it is currently stopping me from seeing 7 adverts.
