I would like to opt out of all the 'junk' ads.and just be able to opt into a MN 'basic service' where all I can see is the threads..

Loading all those adverts is making it so slow and frustrating.. Also im pretty sure all the 'unresponsive script' messages are just coming from ads trying to load.. ..especially the 'movie' ones

Quite frankly I'll never buy anything or click on anything in those boxes .. I just want to see the messages!

.. (and yes i know MN want to have the ad revenue, but what is the point if its just pssng people off so much they go elsewhere? )

I have an adblocker on the laptop and never see an ad at all.

Are you on the mobile site?

SurferJet Thu 14-Apr-16 20:01:23

I thought my phone was magic because everytime I googled something an advert for it would appear on mumsnet - it took me ages to realize it happens to everyone.

Laska5772 Thu 14-Apr-16 20:01:54

and when it finally loads.. i'll answer.. (sigh)

No sparkling am on a laptop.. I admit have a bit of a distrust of downloading stuff of internet (even an ad blocker..) . that why i'd like an opt out to a simpler Mn site..

Sparklingbrook Thu 14-Apr-16 20:03:14

I was a bit wary but it's been fine and works a treat. Not a single ad.

I don't think you can expect MN to offer the option of an ad free site.. That's how they make their money.

Get Ad Blocker if you want them gawn.

Laska5772 Thu 14-Apr-16 20:10:05

sparklingbrook I'm happy to be proved wrong, and will take a look ..Which one are you using?

How would you contribute to the running of this free MN site Laska?

For the BBC you pay a licence fee. Mumsnet has no equivalent.

Laska5772 Thu 14-Apr-16 20:14:00

voyage yes fair point, .. but I am old and wary! Do you have any adblocker suggestions?

Isnt anyone else having trouble with the time it takes MN to load?. My Pc (laptop) updates (and everything else) is up to date (though I am still running Windows7)

Laska5772 Thu 14-Apr-16 20:15:18

Actually bibibity I wouldnt mind paying a subsciption .. (was even thinking of putting that in my OP.. )

Laska5772 Thu 14-Apr-16 20:23:49

OK ive been probably daft ... have just downloaded my browser adblocker.(which I didnt know about ) . Hey no adverts!!

Amazing...Thanks people ..

ill ask MN to delete this thread

ouryve Thu 14-Apr-16 20:24:32

The way many sites operate is that the basic service is the one with adverts, while there is a premium service which is ad free, as you pay for it.

Laska5772 Thu 14-Apr-16 20:28:55

Yeah.. and I'd go fo rthat ouryve but I suppose there would be many Mnetters who would want it ..

(have asked for this thread to be deleted now )

Laska5772 Thu 14-Apr-16 20:30:01

dont suppose ..

bibbitybobbityyhat Thu 14-Apr-16 20:32:03

Why have you asked for it deleted? Are you embarrassed?

Laska5772 Thu 14-Apr-16 20:34:03

not at all. just thought the thread is now not needed..

Sparklingbrook Thu 14-Apr-16 20:35:38

This thread might be useful if others are having the same problem.

YetAnotherHelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Thu 14-Apr-16 20:40:32

Ah, we'll leave it, don't worry. Whatever helps...

Laska5772 Thu 14-Apr-16 20:46:06

Ok thanks HelenMumsnet '

and Thanks all for your help

Ad blockers ! (a revelation to this old MNetter!)

Sparklingbrook Thu 14-Apr-16 20:51:11

I can't check which one I have on the laptop as I am on my phone but it tells you on each page how many ads it's blocking. V satisfying. grin

SallyVating Thu 14-Apr-16 20:51:58

I'm having this problem a lot on my phone (mobile site) there doesn't seem to be an adblocker for my browser so I'm screwed.

Laska5772 Thu 14-Apr-16 20:55:24

I'm using Firefox (mostly) found my adblocker it on the Mozilla site here (if this is any use to anyone)

kinkytoes Fri 15-Apr-16 08:07:38

I'm tempted to get ad blockers too. It's a shame when the ads get so intrusive that it makes you feel like that.
