I'm looking for somewhere to post about bicycles and can't find the appropriate topic.

There is a weights topic. An Unexplained topic. Hmm

Is there a bikes one? BikeSmile

Oh thank you! The thing is I sort of looked at the Exercise topic and went straight past because I hate exercise BlushGrin

Can we have an actual topic? Then people can ask about bikes for everyday purposes not just getting fit/joyful spartan massive long painful journeys?

That would be a good idea - people are always asking advice about kids bikes too :)

As always, if there's enough interest in something we'll always give it some thought. We're reading. What does everyone else think?

ahem, well speaking as someone who definitely isn't the OP, I think it's a wonderful idea.

HmmGrin

(HELP...someone post something!)

I totally agree. I've posted on the pedellars thread a few times but it doesn't get masses of traffic and I think that's cos it's not easy to find. There've been lots of random threads in chat recently asking about different types of bike advice and loads of MNetters are cycling 'widows' who possibly like to join their DHs but don't feel brave enough or know anything about kit. Men take cycling SO seriously Grin

I'm a member of a women's only cycling club and it's ace. Would love more bike chat on MN - there are def some v experienced female cyclists here to learn from

Oh cool thank you Smile I didn't mean to sound dismissive or ungrateful about the link supplied earlier, btw.

Thank you very much for that, Meanwhile.

It looks like a great thread.

I want to talk about Dutch bikes really. That's my obsession. Just talk about them, and look at pictures of them. Anything that doesn't require me to wear lycra, really.

No worries Sophie, you didn't. It's not an easy thread to find (I AS it when I was desperate for cycling buddies)

FelixFelix is a knowledgeable cyclist and hopefully around soon

Yes please to a cycling topic. I'm new to the sport but would love a (predominantly) female chat about the stuff. And to get advice about family cycling too. So, gets my vote Mumsnet :)

Yes I really do think it is a good idea. I do spend most of my time riding/taking the kids biking/talking about bikes/fixing bikes Grin

Good point about the female environment here, so many cycling forums are dominated by men I think and it can feel like a bit of a closed club.

Also women on bikes can be perceived as only being interested in the sort of girly, fluffy, retro flowery cruiser thing and I can't abide that. I mean look at Victoria Pendleton - Olympic champion, serious athlete yet her 'range' in Halfords is all about the girly look.

I'm about to buy my first Dutch style bike! I had a hybrid but I never found it comfortable it cut te arse off me and therefore I hated using it. Hired a bike on holiday this year and it was a B'Twin Dutch style and although it was a heavy beast, it was so comfortable. So, I've sold my instrument of torture hybrid and i think I've settled on the Dawes Duchess. I'm buying through my employer's Cycle to Work scheme so limited to the choice available at the nominated suppliers and the Duchess is the nicest one I've tried.

That sounds cool Smile

Thank you Olivia - I imagine there are rather a lot of people out on their bikes today and therefore unable to post...but we will see what we can do later on.

Yes please!

I'm also a member of a women's cycling group and find it really properly life affirming. I love my bike with a passion and if anyone wants to help me decide which plush new forks to put on it then I'm all ears Grin

I'm still hoping for an electric bike. Just realised the one I had my eye on has a weight limit. Angry It's now my treat if when I lose 2 stone.
