After the SN-not-in-Active-Convos but only in own link thing...

I never see any, because old habits die hard, and I keep clicking 'Active Conversations - All Topics'.

And I think that's a real shame.

Is that just me being dense and lazy ? It's obviously not hard to click the other thing...

I just wish it was integrated into the normal 'view' you get. I don't want to not be able to see it.

Am I alone ?

no, I never look at all. tbh, I feel like I am intruding now.

That's sad, hc. I'll post a link to this in SN incase there are any comments...

I am a regular poster in SN and have already said on a thread a few days ago that I dont like the new arrangement. I dont like the topic to be sidelined and I think a lot of posters do forget to click the "includes" button. I did myself-but then someone posted a bookmark which I use all the time now which includes SN but excludes "buying". Some of the other posters in SNs do seem to prefer that it is not in active convos though...

It would be interesting to get a proper feel of the balance of who prefers which arrangement, though I could see the criteria being awkward (ie. does it get skewed for the most active posters, or do all board users have equal say etc.).

like hub, i keep forgetting to press the new button. but like hunker, even when i do remember, i then feel like 'well what am i looking for anyway? am i just perving on a lives that are differnt from mine?'
so i don't see sn threads any more, which is sad for me but i think that it makes things more private for the prolific sn posters, which was what seemed to be the consensus that people wanted.

I think the idea of a passworded area was in order to achieve privacy - for people who had been stalked, or CAT'd repeatedly by lurkers they didn't know, etc - but the idea of a pro-active button was just so that people were aware that they were actually in a SN thread and didn't weigh in with advice / opinions more suited to a NT child. It's just a pro-active choice to visit the posters you want to keep in touch with...have a try with the clcking habit before you come to a conclusion? It is after all an experiment!

Also, the gosspi is mind-boggling! You know what thise so-called SN Mums can be like!!!!!!

I have {http://www.mumsnet.com/SearchTalk?nobuy=y&lastn=100&o=&sn=y\this} in my favourites and I just come into MN via that now.

I tend to read here and there, rarely post on them, but I didn't before either.

Seriously lurkers had been repeatedly CATing people? Very strange. Couldn't MN just stop forwarding CATs from the same person?

I click on the includes button quite a bit and have noticed that the SN board is very quiet since the schism, actually. I do think it's sad.

I think if you are genuinely interested in the people and the issues that come up on the SN board then you would simply have adjusted your 'habits' hub .. its really not so very difficult .. it is not hidden out of the way it is safeguarded from twonks who 'happen across it' ..

I think it is very sad aswell, but that is a selfish view on my part as I'm sure "sectioning" off the SN board is what the SN parents want.

I read a lovely, moving thread this week about having a child with Downs. The reply by ThomCat was breathtaking. That wasnt in the SN section it was in active convos.

If it had been in SN, I wouldnt have had the chance to read it

yes you would

what rot

if you are interested and have a connection with the people who post in SN then you'll just click that link surely

if you aren't then don't

this is beginning to irritate me slightly ..but then I am not feeling that well so you'll have to excuse me

That is true, but some people have intimated that they feel less welcome on the SN board now.

My favourites is stored on my PC Twig "with chat, no buying and selling"

I very rarely venture out of my comfort zone, but youre right. If I want to learn more about SN, and converse with the SN mums then Ill add the SN topic to my favourites.

But no-one is being nasty or calling people names, Fio. We are just responding to the OP, in a very calm manner IMO.

Did I miss a message Fio?

One that wasnt calm and discussing the message in an adult fashion?

Or was it just yours that was kicking up a fuss?

Twig, I think the fact is that an ENORMOUS amount of what gets discussed on MN is not because one chooses to go to the gardening or pets topics and discuss a particular enquiry you have regarding a hamster or some wisteria... people look at active convos and see a title of interest and take it from there... several hours later they try and emerge unscathed.

It's often about synchronicity, just what you come across when you log in IYSWIM.

I don't particularly 'go' to SN as I don't really 'go' to any topic, I have no particular interest, but if I see a thread and think 'that's interesting' or 'I might have something relevant to add' I'll open the thread... that's all.

If everyone is happy with how things are, that's just fine. I was only enquiring, just me and my enquiring mind.

In Fio's defence I think she is just fed up of the whole subject now.

We will look at the traffic figures and let you know - I'll need tech to help me do it though, and he's busy breaking and fixing things just now, so it might take a day or two.
