MNHQ, I would be interested to hear your views on the level of vitriol & personal abuse that has been posted today (08/05/2015)

I am amazed that no one from HQ has intervened on any of the (very many) political threads that have descended into name calling & personal abuse.

Selfishcuntydupe has summed up everything I want to say with this post:

"Yes - the hatred, the bile, the vitriol at people who simply put a cross in a different box. And the baby killing nonsensical hyperbole posted across this site. It's hysterical. Utterly, hysterical.

And no,the Tories here can never win because whatever they post, no matter how sane and objective , it will be used against them to accuse them of being a smug rich, bastard or as evidence that they are heartless.

No one predicted the election outcome because good, decent people stayed silent and quietly voted to avoid the bile , the bullying and the abuse they were seeing heaped upon those who did speak up.

MN admin - I would advise you to look very very closely at what some of your members are saying and how they are behaving or it may bite you on the arse too. This is an amazing website but some of the posts today are shameful."

I know that this site is moderated with a very light hand, but I think you have failed by not intervening today.

Not even an from you.

I'm stunned at the level of argy-bargy going on.

It has to be reported for MN to look.

I'd hazard a guess that most people are avoiding the political threads today, and everyone else isn't bothering to report. It seems relatively futile. You could probably spend the next few hours solidly reporting political posts to MN.

The way supporters of the losing parties today have behaved on here today is ridiculous.

You'd think someone had taken a crap on their cornflakes as opposed to just y'know, had a different opinion.

I am not surprised...it's very hard to defend a decision to vote Conservative; by any definition, it's the party of the individual, it's a selfish vote. The Labour Party, Reality Party, Lib Dems and Greens, to name a few, are interested in making society better, for all, for the wider good. People who have voted other than Conservative are struggling to comprehend the selfishness really. I have not participated in any bun fights or name calling but I'm not surprised really.

It's been dreadful, people sound like they would chuck a brick through your window if they knew you.

A lot of people are worried about what the future holds for them now that it's another conservative government, me included.
It's been vile what's been said today on the political posts, I can understand that people are angry and upset but that's no excuse.

It's shameful.

I'm not surprised either and I'll be saving my concern for those who will suffer hardship as a result of this vote and not for those stupid enough to vote Tory. If the worst that happens to you as a result of today is that you get called a name on a website then you're well off compared to those whose lives are going to be irrevocably knackered.

Report it to MNHQ then.

Feelings are running high because some people out there are actually very scared about what this result means for them. And most have no way of changing their circumstances,

Some of the responses to posters who voted for the non left wing parties have been bloody vile. I too am surprised that MNHQ hasn't stepped in.

There are too many personal attacks to cope with. I think hq would be in an impossible position if they tried to moderate it all today.

Its a General Election and people have very strong feelings. So what if people shout or get snippy? Its not the end of the world, it's the same in real life.

It will all die down in a day or two.

people are scared and rightly so.
Emotions are high and I have seen some provocation from both sides tbh. Although admit there have been more so from the left.
Many people are scared they are going to lose more money, they are poor, ill, disabled, the weakest of our society.
They need empathy because atm nobody can offer them reassurance.
Of course they will see you as the enemy, hell it doesn't affect me atm but I can sympathise and if I was a tory voter wouldn't be rubbing it in.
I'm not btw, i voted Green as we are safe Labour here. Maybe one of the only safe labour Grin

This. Sums it up perfectly. The result is frightening for our country. I think people are scared and angry and they are lashing out. They shouldn't be vitriolic no but it's understandable.

^this.

As so many disappointed, angry and downright scared posters have been told today - get a grip.

What I find staggering is the lack of intellectual capacity to take a moment and understand why so many people have voted conservative. I voted Labour in 2010 and fully understand why people voted for them this time despite it not being my personal preference.

I tend to believe that we all want a prosperous society but there are different ways of getting there. Nobody is inherently evil or selfish or stupid, just different. Let's all grow up a bit, eh?
