The Mumsnet Secret Santa - donations needed!

HO HO HO!

We hope you've seen the thread started by SantaSandyMumsnet about this year's Mumsnet Secret Santa, and if you're anything like us, you'll be full to the brim with festive good will and excitement about the whole thing Grin

We've now closed the nominations page - a huge thank you to everyone who has got involved so far. At the moment we're about 50 donations short, so that's why we're asking everyone to put on their Christmas thinking caps, and see if there's anything they can contribute.

If you're not in the position to donate then do not worry at all - we quite understand that not everyone can. If you feel able to, you can make your donation here. Donations usually come in around the £10 mark, but anything above or below this is still very much welcome. Any gift big or small, second hand or new, is truly treasured - and will make a big difference to someone's Christmas.

Thank you again to everyone who has nominated and donated - we've got a feeling this is going to be one of the best years yet Flowers

Happy to double donate...
I put my name down on the original donation list, so you should already have me. But please put me down twice - I'd love to help.

MNPinto2014 · 30/10/2014 13:25

Pheww thought i had missed this. Donations are.....

#1. Soft play construction kit suitable from 9m

#2. A soft and board book set suitable from birth to 1yo

#3. Collection of pre toddler onwards story books

All new.

cozietoesie · 30/10/2014 13:33

Best put them down on the donation form, MNPinto. That way they can be entered straight into the spreadsheet.

Smile

sliceofkate · 30/10/2014 13:55

I'll donate! I've added my details. I can't believe I almost missed this! I've donated each year under various usernames since my own child was born so would've been gutted to miss out!

daisychain01 · 30/10/2014 13:57

Like bimble said above I'm happy to give two separate gifts, vouchers seem to be a reasonable option as I can get these in our local town.

Just need to clarify whether I need to use the above link to add a second donation don't want to bugger up your numbers Grin

daisychain01 · 30/10/2014 14:04

OK I have just used the above link and added extra details.

lucysmam · 30/10/2014 14:04

Hello Smile

Do you need to know what we're donating or just that we'd like to? If the former, I'd best do some shopping Grin

ElleMcFearsome · 30/10/2014 14:21

Happily, I'm in a position to donate this year (huzzah!) so I've signed up Smile

Thank you so much Pinto - if you could head over to this page and enter that info there, we can process your donation all official like Smile

I love this Smile. We're struggling a bit this year ourselves so I didn't even consider donating, but actually me and DP have just had a chat and a reshuffle of everything and have figured out that we can. I feel all lovely and Christmassy now, I need a mince pie and some mulled wine! (but I'll happily settle for my Brew.)

SplatTheScaryCat · 30/10/2014 16:06

so, so grateful to be nominated, thank you whoever it was :)

MNHQ - i tried registering the name you gave me to use to thank my donor later, but it says its already in use,

SplatTheScaryCat · 30/10/2014 16:07

whoops rong thread! )Sorry)

BaronessBomburst · 30/10/2014 17:32

Have you had more nominations this year then? Previously there's been a glut of donations, with some recipients getting four or five gifts.

bobbypin · 30/10/2014 17:47

That's what I was wondering, Baroness.
I wonder if there aren't so many offers to donate because it's Secret Santa, rather than the more charitable sounding Christmas Appeal.
I donated last year and am still considering whether to or not this year.

BaronessBomburst · 30/10/2014 18:09

And last year's did go a bit tits up with some dreadful begging posts, wailing 'I've not been nominated' threads, and 'I've not been thanked' ones. Some people rather missed the point and took the nice Christmassy feel off for everyone else. :(

Trumpton · 30/10/2014 18:39

I have donated this year. I received a nomination a few years ago after an unpleasant year and I can't begin to say how touched I was.
I have donated this year and hope to continue to do so for many years.
In a dark world it's the little glimmers of light and love that sometimes make all the difference.

ImperialBlether · 30/10/2014 18:46

People were saying they hadn't been nominated?

Bassetfeet · 30/10/2014 19:01

Yes they did last year Imperial. Couldn't believe what I was reading to be honest .

OldRoan · 30/10/2014 19:08

Last year I never expected to be thanked, as such, but it is nice to know if something has arrived or not. Just a 'haven't opened it, but there is something here' would have been reassuring. I was slightly disappointed that the recipient never said if they got it or not. They posted saying thank you to the other person who had sent them something, but nothing about mine and that did make me wonder if mine had gone missing tbh.

I've donated again this year, I'm not in it for the thanks. I just love Christmas Grin.

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 30/10/2014 19:11

donated - not much but hope it brings a smile to a mumsnetter and her family Grin

ImperialBlether · 30/10/2014 19:15

Tbh, I can completely understand people being upset that they don't get an acknowledgement when they've sent a present. I know a lot disagree and say they don't do it for that reason, but to not even acknowledge a gift is very rude, in my opinion.

cozietoesie · 30/10/2014 19:37

I think they've changed the procedures this year, OldRoan to provide the ability for automatic notification of despatch and receipt - buttons on the bottom of the pages or something. (I can't find the links for that but MNHQ may comment.)
