MNHQ - Are there any plans to make 'Reverse' threads against the site rules?

VileStatistyx · 26/10/2014 14:27

1 they are very annoying. You contribute in good faith and then you get the big reveal.

2 they do not accurately reflect the situation because they are written with a bias designed to get you to give the desired response

3 the poster creating the reverse cannot know what is in another person's head so they attribute thoughts, feelings and motivations that are their assumptions, and not necessarily an accurate reflection of the other party's views

4 they are manipulative. It feels like you are being played in order to make the poster feel like they've 'won' a situation.

I realise it's not a biggest problem on here by a long shot, considering we are slap bang in the middle of the biggest troll season we're ever had, and you at MNHQ must be feeling like a bunch of Elmers going after Bugs, and I know that you never know the truth of any thread, reverse or not, but it's bloody irritating when you get the ta-dah, actually I am the other person... and I just thought I'd ask what your position is on reverse threads. If you don't give a shit, that's fine, I'll shut up whining about it. Grin

Is this a reverse? Wink

2 and 4 are basically the same thing. That's my piss poor editing. But you get the drift Grin

Grin yeah. I love the reverses. I want to get flamed for suggesting they are done away with.

Sorry. Couldn't resist.

I agree with your OP btw. But I'm not sure how this could be policed.

Vital all of those can be relevant to non reverse thread though Grin

I don't mind reverse threads, sometimes people want to see the other side of the problem.

It's the "AIBU to ask you whether I should get a bugaboo" and other such shite that gets on my nerves.

A reverse topic? then i could hide it. Smile

I like a good reverse, I'm pretty quick at spotting them.

I would quite like all threads to be true

Is that too much to ask?

MNHQ should have a permanent squad of detectives in every town in the country, to ascertain IP addresses and land on doorsteps to do spot checks. With judges and jury on 24 hour retainers to double check facts as needed.

I quite enjoy them. Fun to spot them and fun to have them revealed.

I quite like them too. Although in an ideal world not when they run on for too long before the OP comes clean.

I don't know, Mardy. I suspect that the Big Reveal is an important part of the reverse because that's when you get all the no you certainly are not unreasonable... posts. If you know reverses were against the rules, you'd be stuck with being flamed for your total unreasonableness Grin

Like I say, I know it's not a massive thing. But the 'haha glad you agree, it's a reverse, I'm the wronged party you all feel so sorry for....' is, well, it irks Grin

It does indeed, this, but then you don't get that announcement that you've been played Grin

Can you get the other side of the problem from someone who has their own bias and is not in fact accurately disclosing the actual thoughts, feelings or attitude, but their own take on it? You get their side of the problem written as though the other person sees it their way. iyswim. which you probably don't. Cos my explanation is shit.

MNHQ are probably going to look at this and go ffs, woman, we're dealing with the C&P King of Trolls and the Woman's Weekly Fiction Feast Test Plot Club and you want us to give a shit about reverses? Grin

Afternoon folks, Well aware of the recent reverses on the boards . Flagging to the rest of the team to add to our To Do list.

This is, by the way, definitely me

Shock

You liar StickEm - you are posting under false pretences, I would like your full name, your mothers surname and your pin number and bank account details please. Just to verify your existence, you understand?

How can we dictate to posters in which way exactly they are allowed to post? "please only post about situations which you are directly involved in to save people unnecessarily reading through posts which may be written with a certain bias.

In truth all posts are written in a biased way.

I think tbh that the troll problem is far more of an issue to deal with, because even posters on the boards are selective about which trolls should and shouldn't be deleted. There is currently a 900 plus posts topic in relationships which is blatantly the plotline for a novel, and people are being told to shut up about it in case it gets deleted because it's "fun." Either trolls are acceptable or they aren't, and if we can't even get that right then there's a long way to go.

There's a fair few of those atm Wannabe. Apparently reporting them would be mean.

I don't think Vile really expects mnhq to be able to stop reverses, but I think a warning to op's that if they do a reverse they are likely to get dog's abuse might be an idea Grin

That's true, WannaBe. I doubt anyone really gives an accurate and unbiased account of anything. I suppose there's spin on everything. Everyone wants to be the winner/innocent/wronged.

ah well. it was just a thought. Grin

It would be great, ScaryZ, wouldn't it? A bit of honesty. "I was a total cock to my pal / pig to my husband / rotten to my kids and this situation is at least partly my own fault."

Apart from me, of course. I am never wrong. Grin

I quite like threads where the op is so unreasonable that everyone presumes it's a reverse.

And then it isn't and the bonkers op comes back frothing at the unfairness of life and the unreasonableness of everyone else.

They are fun Grin

That one in relationships is so a crap novel.

It will probably end up in classics though and get it's own smiliey

I feel so sorry for the OP when that happens. Grin I imagine them looking at their screen in utter confusion and bewilderment thinking but but but HOW can they think I am in the wrong...

Isn't it funny though how we can sometimes be so utterly convinced that we are in the right that it is such a shock if someone comes along and thinks we are wrong?

We generally, of course. I am never wrong.
