Some of MNHQ are going to be getting very muddy and sweaty to raise funds for Refuge!

At MNHQ, we like a good challenge. And without sounding too sanctimonious, we also like to help a good cause - and if it's a cause that we know the discerning Mumsnet masses would approve of, it's even better. That's why when Refuge got in touch asking if anyone from Mumsnet wanted to create a team to take part in Mudderella, we leapt at the chance (after finishing our cake and brew).

On August 30, a crack team from MNHQ will be running possibly ambling towards the end a 5-7 mile obstacle course to raise money for Refuge. Our mildly Herculean and completely lovely team consists of (drum roll please): StuartMumsnet, ZoeMumsnet, RachelCMumsnet, TinaMumsnet, KateSMumsnet and MichelleMumsnet.

Refuge do fantastic work helping woman and children who have experienced domestic violence; you can read more about their work here.

So if you can (and as ever, please only if you can afford it), we'd be over the moon if you could contribute to our fundraising here. We'd be hugely grateful for any sum, however small.

If you aren't able to donate (and we do completely understand that it's not always possible), then we're also very much in the market for messages of support, motivational GIFs, MNHQ avatars constructed from emoticons, and (almost) anything else - so as ever please use this thread as you see fit...

With the power of Mumsnet behind us, going down a giant slide into a pit of muddy water won't be scary at all.

Thanks and HWURGH <pumped-up noise>

Thank you so much to those who've donated so far, and for the kind words of support. Am touched as ever by the generosity of Mumsnetters flowers

Good for you, sounds fantastic!

<bearing in mind I don't know the details and I don't actually have to do it>

Upandatem Fri 15-Aug-14 19:34:27

Haha, I've just seen what you have to do and have doubled my intended donation in respect and sympathy.

Great cause. I felt bad I was so consumed with the Giving Week around PDA that I didn't give to Refuge and I should have done/ wanted to.

Upandatem Fri 15-Aug-14 19:35:56

Oh, and if anyone bails, I totally understand and it would not affect my feelings about my donation in any respect. I am always astonished people are prepared to stand up and do things I know I could never do.

Good luck!!
Have saved thread in 'watched' to remind me to donate.

Amazing! smile Great metaphor as well. Leaving an abusive relationship: It will be hard, it will be tiring, it will get messy. But when you've done it you'll feel better than you ever could have imagined grin

Do you need Harvey to lick you into shape before the big day? shock

We need pictures of this event... wear flares! wink

scallopsrgreat Fri 15-Aug-14 20:30:12

Agree with LyingWitch - pictures are a must! grin

Good luck. Great idea!

Have donated. Good luck lovely MNHQ smile

Well done team MNHQ.

However, if a team made up of me and my friends did a similar thinking, and posted looking for sponsorship, does that kind of post not normally get deleted?

Thanks Cormoran (and we've just checked the donation total - WOW. Have we ever told you lot that we love you? flowers)

MNers are v welcome to publicise any fundraising they're doing on our Charities Noticeboard topic, or our 'Volunteering and charitable giving' topic. And tbh, any fundraising thread that is in another topic and doesn't get reported (which quite often they don't) would be left alone.

(And quite often we turn a blind eye even when they are reported, esp if we can see that they're genuine MNers and it's a genuine cause.)

It's all to do with whether other MNers are finding it irritating, as a rule of thumb.

In this case, MNHQ is backing the Mudderella team, so I suppose we sort of think it's philosophically impossible for us to spam our own board
