you just deleted that thread about snappysnaps and said this

"OP realised their mistake in linking to their blog and considering that it breaks the talk guidelines (as do several of the responses) we think it's better off gone."

Can i just point out it doesnt actually break the talk guidelines to post a blog link?

the TG states this

"We have no problem with people posting the odd link to other sites/blogs that other posters might find useful or interesting. But we'll delete anyone's attempts to spam the boards with links, as a way of promoting their own product, services, survey or e-petition, as it annoys our members."

It breaks talk guidelines to start a post linking to your own blog just to drive traffic there.

PourquoiTuGachesTaVie Thu 03-Jul-14 17:39:37

we'll delete anyone's attempts to spam the boards with links, as a way of promoting their own product, services, survey or e-petition, as it annoys our members.

Promoting their own blog and therefore annoying members is exactly what they did though.

HecatePropylaea Thu 03-Jul-14 17:41:33

Is someone's own blog not their own product?

OwlCapone Thu 03-Jul-14 17:42:30

Who cares what the deletion message is?

CrystalSkulls Thu 03-Jul-14 17:42:32

no it doesnt

did you miss the first sentence?

"We have no problem with people posting the odd link to other sites/blogs that other posters might find useful or interesting."

posting a link to your own blog is not promoting services or a product.

OwlCapone Thu 03-Jul-14 17:44:33

Your blog technically is your own product.

OwlCapone Thu 03-Jul-14 17:45:42

There is a difference between "I found this blog that has lots of great recipes on it" and "I've never posted here but come read my blog."

CrystalSkulls Thu 03-Jul-14 17:46:49

because the OP got a slating for posting a link to her blog, and it was pointed out on the thread that MNHQ had recently relaxed the rules and it didnt break the TG

so posting that it DOES when it doesn't, is incorrect.

BeanyIsPregnant Thu 03-Jul-14 17:51:58

Message deleted by MNHQ. Here's a link to our Talk Guidelines.

PourquoiTuGachesTaVie Thu 03-Jul-14 17:52:15

But it does break them, because no matter what the first sentence says, the OP did everything that comes after the word "But..." in that extract of the tg.

usualsuspectt Thu 03-Jul-14 17:54:43

Well some of us clearly do care.

Maybe MNHQ need to make their minds up.

CrystalSkulls Thu 03-Jul-14 17:55:04

the OP was NOT an arse and no she didnt.

usualsuspectt Thu 03-Jul-14 17:55:44

The OP was not an arse.

Fucking hell.

AnyoneForTennis Thu 03-Jul-14 17:57:45

Was the blog interesting?

I used to link to my blog when I had one. We were allowed to if on the bloggers' network and as long as it was relevant and not spammy.

usualsuspectt Thu 03-Jul-14 17:59:43

Dunno she made it private after the 'eerrr you did mn wrong' posts.

member Thu 03-Jul-14 18:02:58

Keep blogging stuff in it's own category, blog-related posts in any other category are annoying & should be zapped. I prefer to know the whereabouts of blogs/bloggers so I can avoid them. grin

CrystalSkulls Thu 03-Jul-14 18:06:40

member, it was to do with a bad experience with a service, i dont see the issue in linking to a blog about it rather than reposting the whole sorry tale.. i dont consider that promoting a product or service!

member Thu 03-Jul-14 18:10:05

Cut & paste rather than obviously try & up the visitors?

member Thu 03-Jul-14 18:11:43

I should make it clear I'm playing devil's advocate; didn't see thread/deletion message. I'll shut up, sorry!

Fenton Thu 03-Jul-14 19:24:33

I saw it, maybe the OP didn't research her audience well enough, but she got totally twatted on that thread - completely unnecessary and frankly embarrassing.

LeftyLoony Thu 03-Jul-14 19:51:29

The OP was absolutely not an arse. She made a parenting mistake - as every single one of us has at some point.

The arses on that thread were the people that scented vulnerability (newbie) and ripped her to pieces.

She posted the blog as a shortcut to further info on her experience in a Spreading The Word sort of way and got the most delightful Arse/Plate interface in return. Which is nothing unusual these days on MN, sadly.

CrystalSkulls Thu 03-Jul-14 20:09:43

the fact people were sticking the boot in in such a disgusting manner was atrocious behaviour.

personally i think MNHQ could do with reminding people that this isnt fight club and people dont get mn brownie points for being complete cunts to each other!
