idea for a fighting fund for mn ...

There has been a lot of talk of a fighting fund for mn, but I know that this is difficult as I think that there are potentially some who might not wish to simply donate money, but how about if we went about it a slightly different way..

Most of us have some stuff at home we'd like to get rid of right? Those toys the kids have grown out of; that box of books up in the garage; the kitchen gagets that were bought and now sit gathering dust on top of the cupboard; that lovely ornament great aunt morag brought back from her holiday. So how about we have an mn fighting fund auction as it were. We could set up an ebay account, or alternatively I'm happy to donate the use of my account as I've never used it anyway, and then we could put the items we want to get rid of on ebay and the proceeds could be donated to the mn fighting fund. That way we could get ridd of some unwanted junk that we know we'll never get round to taking to the carboot sale, and help the cause of mn as well. If people are actually selling things, then it feels a bit more proactive than simply paying money into an account imo.

Any thoughts?

I know what you're saying - but sounds way more complicated than just setting up a bank account.
I thought about an 'I Pledge' for MN. But we need to see if there is any point in a fighting fund first? I emailed MNHQ this morning - before it all kicked off. Not surprisingly, haven't heard anything yet

I'm not sure they even can cope with the workload of a legal battle.

that would involve many complications, 1 ebay account would be responsible for all mumsnetters items(trustworthy or otherwise) that persons details would b available to all

sending in money is prob the easiest thing

I was wondering about contacting "famous parents" if MN does have to fight.

Ideas for parents (Kate Winslet, Fern Britton, the Beckhams...?!) welcome - and also suggestions of how one contacts people like this (anyone work for the BBC (this is rhetorical ) and want to pull out a "little black book"?).

Can't we just all donate some hard cash, if they want it? I mean, a jumble sale is all very well and all but plenty of us haven't got time (or any crap to sell, ) but would willingly give some money.

Justine, let us know what you'd like when you've got time.

I can easily get agent details for stars if it's needed.

I wondered if we each wrote a letter via mumsnet, via lawyers, stating why we need mumsnet that might work.

Meanwhile think we should all be paying our subs.

How about one of those sponsered skydives? A few nutty Mners pledge to jump from a plane if all the other less nutty (but hopefully more flush) Mners sponser them (along with any friends family collegues etc that can be roped in).

I did one last year for charity and it worked really well. There are centres over most of UK so all Mners should be able to get to one!

OR how about a world record attempt - the largest number of mothers to skydive in any one day - Mners up and down the country hurling themselves out of planes

Oh - strapped to a hunky instructor of course!

Once was enough thanks.

I'd donate cash. Sadly though, if it came to court I think they'd need a hell of a lot more than could conceivably be raised in this way.

I think it will all blow-over

But would be happy to donate cash. If we all gave a fiver... we would have quite a fund

Actually Secur - think I'd rather jump out of the plane. I organised 10 of my mates to jump with me and it was bloody hard work. We raised over £8k though.

How about wristbands?

I sell them for a baby support group I run and we've made a little money for it.

I used these people

If you order in the thousands, you can get them for pennies each.

The only drawback is that it would need someone to buy them all first (or some at least)...then sort out a way of selling them...oh and distributing them.

Forget it, I think I've talked myself out of this one!

No stick with it CK1 - I thinks its a brilliant idea. We could all distribute.
