Porny 'serve ad' pop up/web page opening from an MN thread.

I was just on a thread and a porn/hook up page opened up.

I have all the regular MN ads down the right side and the box that has ads that are generated by your own google searches.

Im using a laptop that is very new and that only I have access to. I know that sometimes these things happen because of the user search generated ads, but I can 100% guarantee I havent been on any sites like that! I may have 'clicked' on something on the page, this laptop mousepad sometimes 'clicks' on things as you slide your finger across rather than actually tapping on it.

Maybe this happened because of another website Ive visited, but I can't think of any sites Ive been on that would do that?

I can link the thread I was on and the page that came up if necessary.

It quite possibly is something to do with my laptop, but thought Id highlight it just in case it is MN related.

I have a screenshot of the page too. [the MN thread one] showing the ad in the adchoices box, which looks innocent enough to me.

AmberLeaf, this just happened to me too! Clicked on a thread in AIBU and was taken to a porn/dating site. Clicked away straight away but the main picture was of a topless woman. After taking a deep breath went back and clicked on the same thread, but thankfully it didn't happen again. What is going on?

Me too (and I definitely DIDN'T click on anything!!).

lovestea Fri 14-Feb-14 20:44:35

Oh, and now my pc has crashed twice. Great.

AmberLeaf Fri 14-Feb-14 20:55:13

Yes, it was lots of topless women!

Sorry its affected you too, but also glad it isn't just me, or something I'd done.

I didn't think I'd clicked on anything either.

I reported my post when I first posted it, so hopefully tech will be along.

yes i'm getting it as well.. a redirect to some fruity stuff.

Oh dear, sorry folks. Porny pop ups, though alliterative, is not a good thing to happen.

Don't suppose you managed to get a screen shot of the actual pop up AmberLeaf or anyone else?

We will flag this to tech now, and see if they can track it down. Any more info on the ad is gratefully received, and sorry again that it happened to you thanks

shock
Can anyone remember the name of the website you've been redirected too? This will help us track it down and block it.
Amber- could you send the screenshot to us?

Thanks in advance.

Dash it. I had that yesterday evening and did a sccreenshot - and then promptly forgot to send it off so it's long gone. Sorry.

Tech I have replied to Kates email, I dont have a screenshot of the porn page and deleted my history in a panic after the site shut down last night.

Tried to restore my history, but don't seem to be able to do that on my browser [mozilla firefox] if you have any ideas on ways round that, let me know and I'll give it a go.

I just had a porn page show up after reading Amber's post - in a different tab and not the same one as last night. This had lots of girls on the page, while last night's was just a singleton.

AmberLeaf Sat 15-Feb-14 19:31:47

That sounds like the one I had, in a new tab and lots of topless women?

cozietoesie Sat 15-Feb-14 19:34:27

That's the one. About 9 or 10 women? (I closed it down real fast so I didn't count precisely.) Sadly, I'm on an unfamiliar laptop so the screenshot doesn't appear to have stuck.

AmberLeaf Sat 15-Feb-14 19:59:08

Yes I think so, may have been more.

Its annoying because the name of the site is on the tip of my tongue, but I can't remember it!

It was I think a UK site [.co.uk]

cozietoesie Sat 15-Feb-14 20:26:06

Hah! I've just configured this Windows 8 to take a screenshot easy peasy. What do you bet I don't see a naughty pop up now until 2017?

AmberLeaf Sat 15-Feb-14 20:31:34

Ha! yeah it took me about 15 mins to figure that out too [new laptop-first experience of windows 8]

Hassled Sat 15-Feb-14 20:33:03

I had something like this too earlier - got rid of it too fast to think about a screenshot. I thought I must have inadvertently clicked on an ad but a) I know I didn't and b) you don't have such ads.

WhoWasThatMaskedWoman Sat 15-Feb-14 20:38:03

I saw something too - but closed it before I clocked the name - something about "naughty dating"?

AmberLeaf Sat 15-Feb-14 20:38:13

I almost want to get it again, so I can screenshot it!

AmberLeaf Sat 15-Feb-14 20:39:17

Sounds familiar WhoWas. Something along those lines.

Hassled Sat 15-Feb-14 20:44:58

Yes - mine was naughty dating.

AndiRee Sat 15-Feb-14 20:45:18

Me too! Yep it was " naughty" something. I was just reading a thread and a new tab opened. Closed it down so quickly I barely registered the details.

cozietoesie Sat 15-Feb-14 20:49:17

There's something interesting going on in the interstices of MN. If you search on 'porn' on the ordinary search it brings up two 'powered by google' ad links to naughty sounding sites. (And trust me, that's not something I would normally search for - and I'm on a machine that's scrubbed of cookies twice daily in any case.)

Oh - and I did get a screen shot of that one.

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers Sat 15-Feb-14 20:55:33

I got something similar. My women weren't topless but were in bustier/corsettes and was for some kind of "professional" service. Wish I screen-sharted it.
