A thread for deleted threads

Would it be useful to have a sticky thread where MNHQ post the titles of recently deleted threads? Possibly along with the deletion message. I can't be the only one to have had a thread saved for later only to find it's vanished and be dying to know why. Maybe it could be locked so only MNHQ could post (to avoid reigniting the bunfight) and it would hopefully cut down on threads about threads.

I just assume if it's gone it was because it was a troll thread.

I like the threads about threads though, you can usually get the gist from them of whats gone on.

Bowlersarm Mon 14-Oct-13 20:15:41

They're not all troll threads, usual the recent McCann one wasn't

BooItTooJulia Mon 14-Oct-13 20:20:41

Presumably though, MNHQ want all reference to them gone?

usualsuspect Mon 14-Oct-13 20:25:06

It was sort of a troll thread.

Any thread stsrted to inflame is trolling.

Bowlersarm Mon 14-Oct-13 20:26:26

Ah ok. It was started by an established poster though. Glad it has gone anyway.

I'm thinking of tonight's McCann thread.

Not sure which one you mean.

Bowlersarm Mon 14-Oct-13 20:43:23

Yes, tonight's one. Deleted quickly after the OP was sworn at by pretty much everybody.

No doubt there will an influx of McCann threads in about an hour sad

Maybe if the deletion message appeared on Threads I'm Watching, then people who had been following the thread would know why it had disappeared.

It might also reduce the number of posts made by people wanting to see the deletion message which currently push the troll threads further up the active list.

Hullo Ria

We can understand it must be a bit frustrating to find that a thread has gone poof without you knowing.

We always post to explain why we're deleting a thread before zapping, and we try to leave this message as long as feasibly possible, but sometimes time is of the essence wink Likewise, in our deletion message, we'll let you know why it was removed.

We'll certainly consider your suggestion, but at the moment it seems to us that having a thread devoted wholly to previously deleted threads will just encourage speculation and re-hashing of threads that were deleted for a reason, not to mention be a HUGE deviation from our no threads about a thread rule smile

However, if you go into your Threads I'm On (at the top of any talk thread), it will show the deletion message, should a thread be deleted. Will double check whether this appears for Threads I'm Watching too.

If you're ever worried about why a thread disappeared, you're very welcome to have a quiet word in our ear via contactus@mumsnet.com. Although we won't be able disclose a huge amount of info, it's preferable to asking on the boards, as you can avoid straying into thread about a thread regions smile

Hope this makes sense - sorry the essay of a post!

RiaOverTheRainbow Tue 15-Oct-13 13:26:32

Fair enough. I thought it might cut down on threads about threads, but no biggie smile

Deffo worth discussing Ria

<admits total ignorance> Does the deletion message not appear on Threads I'm Watching? D'you think it would be useful if it did?

NotAnotherPackedLunch Tue 15-Oct-13 13:41:53

The deletion message isn't appearing on watched threads at the moment. Can we have it ?

NotAnotherPackedLunch Tue 15-Oct-13 13:44:24

Ooops... meant to say please blush

IamtheZombie Tue 15-Oct-13 14:06:20

Oh, yes please, Kate, may we have it on Threads I'm Watching as well? It would help this poor old Zombie.

alterego2 Tue 15-Oct-13 14:15:57

I'd vote for it showing up on Watched Threads too. I've lost a few to deletions and it's very frustrating not to know why.

Please? And thank you!

Yes please on watched threads.

How long does it take for a thread to be deleted ? and do you let the OP know as I have started a thread but cut and pasted it from a
letter I wanted advice on and left names in it so I reported it a few hours ago but no word what has happened and I am new so not sure how it all works ?

We try to get to respond to reports as quickly as we can - usually within a day. And yes, if you've asked for a thread to be removed, we'll let you know if we've done it.

Thanks for the feedback regarding Threads I'm Watching, will pass it on and see what we can do.
