What was 'the episode'??!

Reading another thread on here about the feminism boards and people keep mentioning 'an episode' or 'issue' that changed the board (apparently a lot). I used to read those boards a lot when I had more time.

I'm a bit confused and curious as to what happened.
Can someone please explain? I can't figure it out on the actual thread and it is Monday and my brain is going very slowly indeed.

Thanking you.

Oh, it all got a bit nasty... There were complaints from some feminists that some posters were insufficiently feminist, then there were complaints from the insufficiently-feminist that they were being pounced upon, bullied etc. Turned out the first lot had a secret online meetingplace where they could shout out when the insufficiently-feminist posted. People snarled and flounced, there were bannings. End of story.

Feminist thread and doghouse give mn a bad name imo-pack mentality at its worst.

Tbf, Pinupgirl, the F/WR board is much improved since the dust settled.

Blimey, OldLady I'm glad I missed out on that. Secret groups?! Lord! The old days were so nice, reasoned debate, loads of great reading suggestions and Dittany always had a great take on things. It was like being back at uni except I could wear my pyjamas and eat hobnobs while chatting about Judith Butler.

Oh well. I must have sensed it all got a bit heated because when I last went on the board it felt a bit different.

Thanks for the explanation.

I don't venture on there much oldlady so perhaps you are right-I think my views on how women present themselves would make them combustGrin

The doghouse is still exactly the same though-full of posters who think their doggies are their babiesHmm

Just don't ask about moldies Wink

Now that was insane. Made the dog house spats look genteel.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 07/10/2013 15:46

Yeah, I saw some of the moldies thing too, wasn't that kind of similar? A secret place for the invited only, people finding out they weren't invited, ouch all round.

LadyRabbit · 07/10/2013 15:48

Oh God Laurie now I have to ask, what are moldies?
And what does the doghouse have to do with this all?

Why does all the exciting stuff happen when I'm doing something else? (Changing nappies, laundry, cooking, work etc.)

Ah, now the doghouse ones were when people came on to ask about buying puppies from backyard breeders or puppyfarms, to be told quite clearly why that was a bad idea when so many healthy dogs are pts every year or languish in various pounds and rescues. People were very passionate about it.

LaurieFairyCake · 07/10/2013 15:55

Yes moldies was similar in tone but involved hundreds of people, it took over the board for about 6 months - it was incredibly dramatic

Report
Pinupgirl · 07/10/2013 16:04

Never heard of mouldies but the doghouse thing was bullying-end of. One poster thought she was the oracle of all things doggy related and anyone who dared to disagree got ripped to shreds-excuse the pun.

Now - mouldies you say? What on dog house or WR?

And what happened please?

SnakeyMcBadass · 07/10/2013 16:36

The F/WR stuff was horrible, actually. It did huge damage to the board.

And I'm a DH regular. I have never bullied or ganged up on anyone, nor been bullied or ganged up upon. People are passionate, but on the whole civil. My dogs are a bit like my babies, though

Can we not please? It's hardly fair on those not here to defend themselves and it always winds up like a game of Chinese whispers - the truth is far more boring than the legend.

Who was bullied in the DogHouse pinupgirl? You can't really make a statement like that without qualification.

Report
TooTabooToBOOOOO · 07/10/2013 18:07

Never seen anybody bullied in the Dog House. I have seen clueless would-be puppy farm customers and clueless first time dog owners, told in no uncertain terms the dangers and/or downright stupidity of the situation they are either about to walk into or are already part of. A fair few veterinary workers and dog rescue people frequent the DH, they've helped a lot of people and stopped a lot of others ending up with a pup with horrific injuries and diseases, courtesy of the scum who breed for money.

No bullying though.

EdithWeston · 07/10/2013 18:09

There was a Doghouse poster banned. It wasn't bullying. It was frequent rudeness, persisting even after warning.

See I find that quite sad and it's annoying that MNHQ don't take all the helpful, informative, compassionate and caring posts into account. Because I'd bet my last quid they would outnumber the posts that got people's backs up.

Personally I think she was targeted into losing her rag by the GFs - and that was certainly borne out when she came back under a nc and was here months before she was grassed up - and in that time had NO complaints. Strange, huh?

Mouldies was a splinter group who only invited the elite. Some people who thought they should have been invited were not and they got very very cross, crying and all sorts! Went on right over Christmas 2008, was fab!

Ooooh is this the really secret magic thread which can slag off other areas of Mnet because the groups it being referred to it can't see it?

In that case

MNHQ are a bunch of gin soaked old harridans with a love of big red buttons.
