Just saw it for the first time - it's brilliant.
Well done MNHQ!

What happens, what have they done?

blizy Fri 16-Aug-13 23:07:00

Pretty damn thoughtless in the bereavement topic though.

BeCool Fri 16-Aug-13 23:14:36

I opened a thread and above the "Add your Message" box is a red zombie and a zombie warning. I think it's new having inadvertently posted on a few zombie threads in the past myself

shock grin ooh link one, I wanna see a zombie grin brilliant!

BeCool Fri 16-Aug-13 23:22:31

here you go.
Zombie isn't red actually.

Could it be?

I can see the text in red but not the zombie sad perhaps I need to be on the pc not the mobile site? bloody good idea though!

What's wrong with posting on an old thread if its relevant?

It's a weird "rule".

If they don't want people to post on old threads why not just delete them all after 90 days? As they don't get deleted why shouldn't people be free to comment whenever they like?

TheDoctrineOfJetlag Sat 17-Aug-13 04:59:25

It's just an alert, relaxed. You can read it and go ahead and post anyway if you think it's relevant.

Relaxedandhappyperson Sat 17-Aug-13 05:30:53

Or make them read-only.

It may be an alert but it's an alert about a stupid "rule".

If they want to have this stupid "rule" they should have it properly or shock abolish it so that people can post on whatever thread they want without the thought thread police (in-crowd) coming along and smugly finger-wagging.

And zombie is a stupid term too.

TheDoctrineOfJetlag Sat 17-Aug-13 05:36:58

A lot if people get annoyed when they realise they've posted on a zombie thread by accident - I think this is to stop that annoyance, that's all.

Relaxedandhappyperson Sat 17-Aug-13 05:53:04

If they care that much they should look at the date.

Tee2072 Sat 17-Aug-13 08:06:22

My god Relaxed, your username is the definition of ironic!

It's useful because of people giving advice to an OP from 10 years ago when the child in question, for example, is now in secondary!

Relaxedandhappyperson Sat 17-Aug-13 08:28:01

So why not just block replies after a certain time?

Relaxedandhappyperson Sat 17-Aug-13 08:29:30

Or - even better - let people post where and when they like.

Tee you have just epitomised the in-crowd, smug finger-wagging that I was commenting on.

SoupDragon Sat 17-Aug-13 08:30:43

Because sometimes it is relevant!

It;s just a simple warning that the thread is old. Perfectly simple.

SoupDragon Sat 17-Aug-13 08:31:12

Or - even better - let people post where and when they like.

Which it does. It's not stopping you is it?

Tee2072 Sat 17-Aug-13 08:33:19

HA! I'm smug finger wagging and the in-crowd?

You flatter me...

Isabeller Sat 17-Aug-13 08:33:20

Brilliant, agree it might need modification in some topics though...

Tee2072 Sat 17-Aug-13 08:34:09

Oh wait, I get it, anyone who disagrees with you must be smug, finger wagging and part of the in crowd.

It's not that I have a different opinion to you. Oh no.

Tell me, do you also find the school gate mums to be smug and rude?

Maybe it's you?

Isabeller Sat 17-Aug-13 08:35:46

By the way, if someone does reanimate will the next person still get the warning?

Also will there be a little emotizombie on the list showing it is a reanimated thread?

And another thing... grin

SoupDragon Sat 17-Aug-13 08:37:00

I think it stays for a couple of posts, IIRC.

It's not a rule that you can't reanimate a dead thread - this just warns you that the question you are answering may well have been dealt with years ago.

Tee2072 Sat 17-Aug-13 08:37:31

Helen, long may her memory reign, has said that it stays after the first 'zombie' post so the next person sees the message.

So if someone doesn't realize the date, or just doesn't care, it will warn the next person to see the thread.

After that, I guess it's just reanimated.

Isabeller Sat 17-Aug-13 08:37:34

Now have great image in my head of smug, finger wagging flashmob of zombies in MN scarves grin

JollyHappyGiant Sat 17-Aug-13 18:39:41
