On some threads I get a huuuuuuge gap between the thread title and the first post. There is also a one line advert for wowcher just above the first post. Is it just an annoying ad not working or my problem?
And yes the mobile site is gfreat.
I am completely lying - I don't use the app at all, just the mobile site.
I meant the mobile site, Tapir, not the app. The app is horrible. Mobile site works great and I don't even notice the ads any more.
There was a bit of complaint a few months ago when the mobile app ads appeared - it was a bit annoying at first but tbh you get used to it after a while.
One of the many reasons that I like MN so much (laptop version) is that the ads are 'confined' to a certain space, and don't cause loading problems.
Putting an ad into the actual thread space is different, and comes across as visually intrusive.
The phone app is a major PITA, ads or no ads, as it currently causes my phone to crash on loading every single time I try to use it, those ads aren't so much of a visual problem to me.
I thought the gap was annoying, but the ad itself is fine.
I am used to in-thread ads anyway (they are always there on the mobile app).
It's only a little thing. MN is a business, it enables us to come and talk to each other on here for nowt. The ad isn't a pop up or something hideously intrusive, I think it's fine.
It's a one line advert. What does it really take from your MN experience?
Also, on the mobile site, there's ads within the threads.
However, I would like to say, it's a bit annoying that it takes a moment to load and the screen jumps once it shows up.
I don't think many of us have serious objections to ads, seeing as how they fund MN, it's more the fact that it's actually on the thread itself, rather than with the rest of the ads over there -->
Tis the thin end of the wedge IMO
The big gap thing has gone.
But that little wowcher ad is extremely annoying, isn't it?
I don't mind most of the ads, except those massive ones down the sides of the homepage from time to time.
Why does it get past adblock (on Firefox) just out of interest? Is it not technically classed as an ad? Nothing else is getting past my adblock on MN.
Just downloaded adblocker and every site I go on is much much quicker!
It's distracting, there are loads of ads now. I really dislike it tbh.
It's been fixed - and it's got past my Adblock
Still it's not that obtrusive.
Hello. There are a few threads on this so pls forgive me if I just C&P Justine's post from one of the other threads...
"Hello, hello
Yes it's additional wee thing we're testing on chat forums and yes it's an attempt to make an buck without causing too much irritation. It had a problem when launched in that it pushed everything down the page but that's fixed now. Do we think we can give it a go for a wee while and see if you can live with it. Obviously if it drives everyone bananas then we'll nix..."
Oh, and the ad should be a nice unobstrusive blue, rather then in-yer-face green. We're working on sorting that ASAP>
Nope, still have the huge gap on all chat threads with chrome.
everybody*
aye eeverybody has the wowcher ad lady if we say wowcher often enough does something happen to us like in the adverts >>looks out for falling discount cake
Well the big gap seems to have gone but I've still got the wowser thing.
I don't like it.
I was on a site last night that had an ad in every single post. It were crap.
its all about balance, MNHQ...<taps nose>
It's not fixed. It is still happening in Chat. (Internet Explorer)
seems to have gone now,
Still not fixed.
I'm on Firefox.
<walks off muttering something about CSS, padding, cache and hard refresh to herself>
I really object to having adverts IN the thread, like this wowcher one.
Mumsnet is a total collage of adverts already, if you need to advertise them, please do it where you already have adverts
You don't want to end up looking like one of those local mags that nobody reads because they are all ads and no content.
mine is try logging out lady
My gap still isn't fixed.
