that deletions were going to be a bit more reasonable.

I have just seen 2 deletions on a thread that totally weren;t against Talk Guidelines.

What the heck is going no?

I happen to still have a window opem, and can quote them.

It's really annoying and actually unacceptable, as it makes sane poaters look like Vipers when they're not. I thought this was going to be eradicated.

I am really saddened.

HQ?

BodyOfEeyore Sat 17-Nov-12 21:29:35

I don't think I ha be ever been deleted. I can't behave in real life, so it's quite refreshing really.

GretaGip Sat 17-Nov-12 21:31:47

I was never deleted apart from one that I still totally dispute was against TG.

It upset me, as I feel sullied, sullied I tell yuo.

I know a lot of posters don't give two hoots about their rep, but I do.

This is the sort of thing that will drive me the GoodUns away.

sad

SuePurblybiltbyElves Sat 17-Nov-12 21:34:16

Can I add my please can we have different messages for deletions whinge to this? Save me bumping my fred?

GretaGip Sat 17-Nov-12 21:38:26

Well, yes, exactly, SueP.

<<comma overload>>

IF you had been rude in retaliation, then it should say so.

But you weren't rudr, and that message should be reinstated.

SuePurblybiltbyElves Sat 17-Nov-12 21:39:14

I used delusional, maybe that triggered the Big Red Button.
mad as a box of frogs.

Portofino Sat 17-Nov-12 21:43:36

The poster in question was very rude to me as a response to an innocent mistake on my part. I never reported it. I am happy for the posts to stand to be honest.

Gumby Sat 17-Nov-12 21:44:10

Can you copy & paste so we can judge?

SuePurblybiltbyElves Sat 17-Nov-12 21:46:24

I am interested as to why my post saying someone's post made them seem xyz were deleted, but the poster in question's comments that another poster's posts are shitty stands.
Just because we don't care enough to report? Or is there really a huge gulf between 'your shitty posts' and 'your posts make you sound unhinged' that I'm missing?

GretaGip Sat 17-Nov-12 21:47:25

Yup.

Holdon.

She said she reported it herself. And fwiw, it was a babgoutoforder Personal attack. So rightfully deleted.

SueP, do you mind if I C&P?

SuePurblybiltbyElves Sat 17-Nov-12 21:47:42

Actually, I'm not that interested grin. It doesn't really matter - twats will be twats.
But the old argument that the insulted should decide to let the insult stand is a doozy.

SuePurblybiltbyElves Sat 17-Nov-12 21:48:45

Knock yourself out, my dove. But I think if you C&P the poster in question's unprovoked anti-MN rant, it'll pfftd again.

GretaGip Sat 17-Nov-12 21:50:43

"You're delusional and your posts come across as unhinged btw. Just so's you know."

Nagoo Sat 17-Nov-12 21:52:00

I haven't seen the deletey-ness in question, but I do think that in terms of 'since Justine said' deletions have been more reasonable. In general.

Would someone PM me so I can see for myself please please?

I have been reading, actual books! SO it's cut right down on my thread devouring rate.

SuePurblybiltbyElves Sat 17-Nov-12 21:52:35

You could have added that my post ^ was in response to a very unhinged-sounding sweary rant at Porto, followed by a frothing NEST OF VIPERS ENTITLED SCUM MN longer post.
Tsk, Ms Greta. wink

HelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Sat 17-Nov-12 21:52:45

Hello. We do hope we are being more reasonable <reasonable face>

But if people make personal attacks on another poster - even in retaliation to a personal attack on them - then they're breaking our Talk Guidelines too.

You're always welcome to mail in to us and ask why your post was deleted - we'll always be happy to explain.

HelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Sat 17-Nov-12 21:56:15

GretaGip

"You're delusional and your posts come across as unhinged btw. Just so's you know."

OK. So, in that sentence, "You're delusional" is a clear personal attack.

HelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Sat 17-Nov-12 21:56:39

SuePurblybiltbyElves Sat 17-Nov-12 21:56:56

Oh, that was a very reasonable post, Helen grin
you're no fun
How come you got a Saturday night shift? Did you do something terrible on the night out?

SuePurblybiltbyElves Sat 17-Nov-12 21:58:39

XP. Really - 'delusional' is a personal attack?
Is 'you're wrong' a personal attack too? Delusional in that sense surely means that you think you're right and you're not.

GretaGip Sat 17-Nov-12 22:00:33

So If SueP typed a message to me Helen that said:

"You're chunky, you hefty sod."

Would that be deleted, as it's true?

I can't get my head around this.

I'll bet I can find a gazullion worse PAs than the delusional one that are still extant.

Thanks for coming on the thread, though. smile [polite]

Yes. A personal attack can still be a personal attack, even if it stating the truth.

So, "You're an ugly cow, HelenMumsnet" is a personal attack, even if I do indeed make the back ends of buses shriek in horror.

Nagoo Sat 17-Nov-12 22:01:21

wrong means 'I don't agree'.

delusional means 'you are mistaken because there is something wrong with you'.

IMHO.

SuePurblybiltbyElves Sat 17-Nov-12 22:02:13

But I don't get the difference between 'deluded' and 'wrong' in this case.
'You're wrong' is surely not a PA?

I am sure you do not make buses shriek grin

It would depend on context, GretaGip.

In the context of a bunfighty thread about weightwatching (for example), probably.

in the context of an affectionate chat between MN mates, probably not.
