Seems that quite a few of us are now having names of online shops come up as automatic links.

Eg(and fingers crossed these work!

Argos
Next
Marks and spencers
Wilkes
Toys r us

Can you confirm if this is a new addition to MN or are we all infected with something nasty?

Thankoo! grin

Argos worked!

BertieBotts Tue 02-Oct-12 22:53:26

Wow that's weird!

I wonder if the shops are paying for it? It seems like a useful feature for them...

SmokyClav Tue 02-Oct-12 23:01:05

hmm

So now it will look as though posters are linking to all these White companies?

tribpot Tue 02-Oct-12 23:04:16

I remember when The Motley Fool tried this context-based advertising.

It was not popular.

To put it mildly.

DameFanny Tue 02-Oct-12 23:04:39

How very oddbins

DameFanny Tue 02-Oct-12 23:04:50

Ha ha!

SmokyClav Tue 02-Oct-12 23:05:41

Haha- DameFanny- you must have typed that yourself, surely... don't MN link with Naked wines? (and aren't Oddbins out of business??)

BertieBotts Tue 02-Oct-12 23:05:59

Um

I've just seen it happen on a poster mentioning an iPhone, it linked to an ebay site hmm

When you mouseover it says "Shopping link added by skimlinks"

Please don't end up doing this on every keyword, MN, it looks awful!

SmokyClav Tue 02-Oct-12 23:06:01

Woah! Maybe not....

DameFanny Tue 02-Oct-12 23:06:14

So what else is contextually appropriate for MN?

gordons or Hendricks?

SmokyClav Tue 02-Oct-12 23:07:04

Great Bertie... because there aren't any unscrupulous types that 'sell' i phones on ebay (and then don't deliver) oh, no.

SmokyClav Tue 02-Oct-12 23:07:22

Moet et Chandon?

DameFanny Tue 02-Oct-12 23:07:46

Mothercare

SmokyClav Tue 02-Oct-12 23:07:59

Is this why MN is so slooooooooow? hmm

BertieBotts Tue 02-Oct-12 23:08:01

I don't like it! I feel like someone's been inside my post, messing with it! I feel all dirty!

WHAT and now it's gone? I swear the word "ebay" in my post was a link a second ago, and now it isn't!

<explodes in shower of exclamation marks>

DameFanny Tue 02-Oct-12 23:08:06

This is random

SmokyClav Tue 02-Oct-12 23:08:20

CheapSmells

<snigger>

MirandaWest Tue 02-Oct-12 23:08:45

I'm not seeing any links confused

BertieBotts Tue 02-Oct-12 23:08:46

...and now it is? And iPhone too?

<refreshes madly to see all the words highlight like a christmas tree effect>

SmokyClav Tue 02-Oct-12 23:08:59

Bertie- the link is still there on my screen confused

SmokyClav Tue 02-Oct-12 23:09:42

but i phone no longer links! <head explodes>

rhondajean Tue 02-Oct-12 23:11:01

Shall I report my post see if it makes MNHQ hurry along to tell us what's happening?

<wonders if tech has perhaps got malware>

BertieBotts Tue 02-Oct-12 23:12:18

It's coming and going on mine, it's most odd.

Or at least, I posted the first one and when I posted and it reloaded the thread, just ebay was a link.

Then I posted about how I didn't like it, and while I was doing this, I noticed that ebay was no longer a link.

Posted that and the thread reloaded after posting, now iPhone and ebay are both links. It's like it disabled the one for a second while adding the other.

I'm not seeing any links in the thread
